Sakauri is such a great guy. He puts so much effort into his fighters, even if the character is one that will disappoint many, he still works his hardest to make the character the best it can be. Truly one of the best game developers and also just great person in existence.
He honestly could have done so much more with the character tbh. The moveset feels slapped together and doesn't realize the potential for carrying multiple weapons. Maybe it's just my high standards for character concepts and movesets, but Byleth is disappointing in that regard.

@@fallenafterling4128 They actually never stated that. This misconception stems from a misquote of Reggie during the 2018 Game Awards. What he actually stated (Going to paraphrase here) was that all the characters would be new to the Smash Brothers franchise. Basically Reggie was stating the obvious and I guess people tried to fined a deeper meaning that didn't exist thus leading to this misconception. If you don't believe me go back and rewatch the 2018 Game Awards and listen closely to what Reggie says.

Seriously, I was disappointed back in January, but I got Fire Emblem Three Houses during summer, and as of December 2020 I have 100% completed the game. It's seriously good.
Good to see someone who was at first disappointed with the inclusion of Byleth, but actually gave the game a try, and ended up being happy they were in. Literally 95% of the smash scene complain about a character coming into a game they haven’t played before. For example; *Geno haters*

I was unfortunately one of those people that bitched about Byleth, and I cringe at those old memories. I actually took the time to play Byleth, and now she is my best character and #1 main, plus I have 200+ Hourse on Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
I still feel bad for those who are still stuck in the past. May the goddess Sothis help them.

It was more funny and shocking that it was another Fire Emblem character, especially since it was DLC. But Byleth is one of the DLC characters I love playin, not as a main but as just, a fun fighter.

They're just using "too many sword fighters" as a convenient excuse to complain that their requested character didn't get in yet.

It’s odd to come back to this video. Byleth is currently my main, and one of the reasons that I finally choose to get into smash again. In fact, it is due to the hating of the character that I choose them as a main. Fun to come back and read the comments.

I'd say so! It's DLC for a video game, let there be promotion. For the time, people were hyped for the last character in Fighters Pass 1 and they wanted to be satisfied with their purchase.
In hindsight, Byleth deserved it, since Three Houses is a popular Nintendo game and Byleth is now a popular Nintendo character. People who are still furious are obviously d*ckless Western Nintendo fans who don't play a lot of video games who jumped on the Smash Bros. train because they wanted someone from their youth like Crash Bandicoot or an irrelevant side-character like Geno or Waluigi.
They don't have an appreciation for games outside their realm of understanding what a game is, so obviously they'd be upset, but some take it too far

Cheappin was already obnoxious in general. I'll say what I want about Bayonetta and her Smash 4 shenanigans, but at least even in Smash 4 she involved clear counter play regardless of it being buried by the Side B flowchart and the ceiling kill stupidity that makes me wonder why there weren't other legal stages in Smash 4 with ceiling blast zones as high as that of Wuhu Island Omega. Cheappin was able to spam a given aerial to ridiculous effect. And then we get Byleth coming with an absolutely toxic preview trailer. It did not help that Mangs used a certain meme involved with Hero to incite people into it.

well no.zss up smash,dedede f smash and the down air animation for dedede and byleth is THE EXACT SAME There IS NO DIFFERENCE IN THEIR HAND POSITIONING AND HOW THEY SWING THE WEAPON.
@@rayman9118 I must point out that a lot of other sword fighters share the exact same down smash, where they swing to their front, then their back. The only exceptions are Cloud and Ganondorf, who both use their sword hilt to push opponents onto the blade, and of course Byleth, who instead has a low-to-the-ground axe spin.

Honestly this character was my favorite of the first pass. I’m a fire emblem fanatic, and watching this trailer on the bus ride home made me smile.
Glad someone did. I'm sick of the anime swordsmen. 3 out of 5 of the first pass had some kind of manga sword theme. (Granted I love joker ) but still the game needs more color like banjo and terry. It just feels too dark and edgy

With the news the wave 2 fighters were decided at this point and what Sakurai implied during the final presentation, it makes more sense in hindsight why the 11th Pack is revealed semi-dramatically after packs 6-10- probably a personal reminder for the team that they successfully got Sora from Disney. I also bet had they not succeeded, it would have been just the 5 extra fighters with Sephiroth ending it.

@Wil E Yeah and whenever it came to you guys arguing it also meant the franchise thinking that one franchise is better than the other. And to be honest both franchises are fun. I've never tried out a Fire Emblem game (which I know I can thanks to emulator but I mainly played the Mario games since I've been a Mario dweeb since I was 5 😅), but I used to play games like Plants Vs. Zombies and that game is strategic in a different way so fe would probably be fun. Monecraft is a game of creativity and survival. Surviving in the worlds I make feels so good and I remember playing that alot. I have the switch port and it's actually the Java version you can only play on PC. All of the other ports I played were on Xbox360 and Wii U. They're different with modes and stuff but still fun either way. And honestly you'll never know if the game ain't fun if ya haven't played it yet which..have you tried out Minecraft?
@Wil E Well at least you tried the game out. Yeah creepers are pretty deadly when in your house but that's either cuz you left the door open or it spawned in. The best way to prevent mobs from spawning into your house is to light up your house. Put some torches at first and then once you have the materials you can craft better lighting blocks like lamps and glowstone.
