      Nissan is dead last in consumer reports for reliability. The 3.5 is prone to premature cylinder head warpage and the CVT is garbage. Let alone it looks like a 2011-current Kia Optima.
      Nissan sucks.

      A decade ago kia and hyundai didnt have their extended warranties like they do now. People wouldnt consider kia or hyundai. Also a decade ago kia and hyundai didnt have any 5 star crash ratings or top safety picks. Or jd power & associates, or BBB awards like Nissan. Everyone knows about the consumer reports scandal. The Nissan Maxima has had the same 3.5 for that same decade. Reputation speaks for itself.

      the big maxima 4dsc comeback that nissan hoped for hasn't panned out. nissan's cvt tranny may be fine for their economy cars, but its totally inappropriate for a "flagship" sedan.

      actually Kia and Hyundai have some of the best residual values of any car brand most of their cars lose bout 25-35% of the value. Which is better than standard 40%

      +C-Wow Go check out real value on autotrader and cars.com. Hyundai/kia dont hold their value. I know because I own one. We tried to trade in 2011 sonata on 2015. 25k car worth only 5k. Yep even kbb listed my 2011 sonata for 5k. Wasnt worth selling or trade in so we have it driveway for emergency/backup car. Same class Accord and Camry was well over 10k when we compared with our sonata.

    I've had my car for three years, I did my research, also. You don't see the Cadenza very often. I can't believe he said that he liked the body style of the Maxima more. Mine is a 2014, but when I was shopping, the Cadenza was the best luxury car without having a luxury car name branding. I have no regrets.

    As an owner of the top of the line Cadenza with every bell and whistle I must say I and very satisfied in my decision. It has everything I was looking for in a vehicle...tho my ONLY complaint is that it is not awd. I've been in the maxima and though I do love the new stylish sporty design and drivers area I would still go with the cadenza. People shy from kia but this will all change in due time once people stop caring what other people like and make a purchase solely on what they like and are looking for.

    • @grajmahal

      That's not what the Maxima is made for. They call that car a GTR. Maxima is a mid sized FWD sedan for a reason- there is hardly anyone else in the market. Mazda used to be there with the Mazda6, but they gave that up after Ford sold them off. Some of us have to buy a FWD midsize because it's practical- but we don't want it to be boring.

      Why do you have to feel an "automatic" car shift "gears"??? I've had my 2i016 Maxima Platinum for nearly 3 years and absolutely love the smooth acceleration when the engine and transmission work together. Try it. 0 to 60 in 5.8 sec or 15 sec .... no shifts - just smooth. Never had a problem with anything. Had a recall to check the master cylinder. The engine likes premium fuel but at 31 mpg highway it's worth it.

      The Nissan Maxima has been built with the same engine for over a decade yet still gets better HP, Torque, & MPG? A decade ago Kia/Hyundai were building unsafe, & unreliable vehicles. If not for Kia/Hyundai extending their warranties they would have more lawsuits and less Sales.

    • @bbokdoong
      @bbokdoong Před 8 lety +2

      Hyundai/Kia also has been building cars with the same 3.3L V6 engine over a decade.
      Nissan gets better mileage mainly due to its CVT transmission.
      CVS transmission is like a vacuum cleaner that sucks all the fun out of a car.

    I know about the age difference in these two cars but the more I look into a Maxima the more I want one. I prefer a standard but even with the CVT, which is a great one, it seems like a car that I'd buy. It would be difficult to find a better car for the same price.

      The 2017 Cadenza has gotten really good reviews. It has an 8-speed transmission versus the 6-speed in the 2016 model, and has an all new chassis compared to the 2016. Doesn't the Cadenza offer a power rear curtain? and rear heated seats? I don't think those are even an option on the Maxima. Cadenza is more luxurious while the Maxima is undoubtedly the sportier one.

  • @tonyw973
    @tonyw973 Před 8 lety +4

    I can't see anyone cross-shopping these two cars. The Credenza is basically a Korean Buick while the Maxima is more sport-oriented. That said, the Maxima has to be the ugliest, most stylistically over-wrought car to come out of Japan in decades. I'd take a loaded Honda Accord over either one of these dogs any day.

    I've had a lot of different cars, Manuals and automatics. This is the first CVT transmission I've actually owned and see no problem with it. It's smooth and I never feel that I dont have access to engine power. I think most people on here that are ragging on CVT's haven't really driven these newer ones. I dig mine and also what's this about Nissan's being unreliable and break down after a few years???

      Javier Herrera I have a 2008 Maxima that I just gave to my little cousin ( Sold it to him for cheap...hey its Family). 168,000 miles and never one issue with cvt. Only 2 issues ive had with that car is Timing Chain (guides are cheap plastic) that had to be replaced. About $$1200 to $2,000 average depending on where you get the job done. It also developed some lugging in which they reprogrammed cvt under a TSB (free). Everything else was regular wear and tear. I was worried about Cvt reliability when i bought it new, but the car is still strong and running.

    Unbelievable, you've just compared a mid-size Maxima (length: 193 inches) to a full-size Cadenza (length: 196 inches). On top of that, the Maxima is new, while the Cadenza is a 2 year old design. Well, they are more premium V6 powered family cars, and if you get them used (under 20k miles), a Cadenza is about $25k while the newer Maxima is between $26k (S trim) up to $37K (Platinum trim).

    Why is everyone raging about the Kia being older. We have seen with recent Kia/Hyundai update they stick to what they know (value) and make styling tweaks and a few to driving dynamics. Oh top of everything 2 years is a not long life for a car. The last gen maxima ran for almost 6 years. Plus these cars don't go after the same audiences. The Maxima goes after a sporting vibe while the Kia is more of a traditional luxury sedan. After the refresh the Kia will still drive the same but have better looks which wasn't a point of criticism.

    Kia has associated itself with the sport of tennis in Australia. I mean the Australian Open. It is likely that admirers of Tennis would also find Kia admirable for its participation in the world of Tennis.
    I had sent a request, a while ago to Nissan to participate in the sport of Badminton, particularly in regional Victoria in Australia and help form a Regional League. Badminton is a big market for Nissan to tap into. They should harness sport industry to promote its offerings.

    • @grajmahal
      @grajmahal Před 7 lety +1

      I've driven the Maxima, and the CVT isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. In fact, in this day in age when everyone is going to 8 and 9 speed automatics, you tell me how different a transmission is from a CVT. It really all depends on how they are setup to handle the engine they are mated to. My only gripes with how it is setup in the Maxima is that it doesn't seem as responsive at the low end. But I'm not really into drag racing Maximas, and I prefer my power to come in the form of highway passing. For that, the Maxima has no problem getting up to speed.

    This video was sooo biased. Oh my Lord. This is a freaking Nissan commercial instead of a mature subjective comparison. He spendd the entire video inside the car he likes and bashes the other. I mean people actually may take this guys words seriously. The Cadenza is a luxury car. Period. Thr Maxima is a so called for door sports car with a nice interior. The philosophies are different. The Cadenza is all about those who want luxury but arent brand slaves. The maxima is a csr trying to be both am luxury car and a sportscar. Both are great cars but the Cadenza is the better overall choice if you want a luxury car. Some things cant be measured.

What is up with stupid consumers actually falling for it? Madness.

    I have rented several different Cadenzas and recently a Maxima. I was not impressed with the Maxima. The fit and finish was poor for a car in it's price range and the CVT had an annoying drone that got very old very quickly. Understanding that most of tbhese reviewers are a lot younger than me (I'm 37) their expectations for a car are probably very different. I want refinement resale value, and reliability and unfortunately the Maxima is neither refined and as of late has not been very reliable either(Consumer Reports). Go for a Lexus ES or Camry XSE.
