  • @danmagoo
    @danmagoo Před 4 lety +15

    Note to Windows users: The Yeti lets you set gain using either the hardware knob on the mic, and/or by setting the levels in Windows Sound Control Panel>Recording tab>(Yeti icon)>Levels. You can adjust these in any combination of Windows levels and/or hardware gain knob (although I don't recommend taking too long at these experiments!). With the Samson G-Track Pro, the Levels in Windows (and in your DAW) will appear frozen at either 0 or 100%, and all gain adjustments must be made on the microphone knob. This is "as designed". This gives the Samson mic a narrower range of possible signal levels than the Yeti -- but, the G-track gain is adequate even for Windows 10, and to me it definitely sounds way better than the Yeti.

      @@LlfeMinecraft true but fanboyism aside, when you analyze the frequencies for recording purposes, the G-Track Pro has more body and refined mids that come out naturally out of the box. If you're doing voice overs and podcasting work, the G-Track pro can likely do both well. The Yeti suits podcasts but won't be as good for voice overs.

      I find the Yeti both harsh and a little boomy somehow. Like it has a noticeable high end (but so does almost every sub $300 mic) but it also sounds slightly like it's *poorly* (imo) coloured to have extra bass for a broadcast sound.
      The G-Track Pro is definitely a lot better sounding on cardoid mode and bi-directional mode. I think the Yeti has a slightly better performance in the omnidirectional mode. But I don't think that slightly better performance in omni is worth the clear superiority in both cardoid and bi-directional mode. Plus the G-Track Pro has a better sampling rate and the instrument input which I do think you'll want if you're recording instruments.

    One problem with both is that the "cool-looking" desktop stands put the mic too far from your mouth (unless you are 4 feet tall) -- which creates the challenge of putting it onto a mic stand or boom arm that lets you comfortably adjust the angle. And it seems to me the G-Track Pro has the advantage of coming with a good adapter for that, while the Yeti just has the straight-up 5/8 in hole in the bottom. One of the things I dislike about the Yeti is that if you do take it off the desktop stand, it's hard to put it back in just right, with those little custom, curvy washers. (Also I think the Samson can go in a "normal" spider-type shock mount, while maybe the Yeti needs that Frisbee-sized, custom shock mount that Blue wants you to buy.) TLDR: The Samson mic gets points for being easier to use with a mic stand or boom arm, and/or with a shock mount. The comparison of the sounds is great, and should really help users decide. Great video.

      Silver Cobalt The G-Track Pro is pretty harsh too, but it's also very clear. The Yeti has a harshness that isn't helping clarity and seems to be coloured in the low end for a slight broadcast sound which doesn't help when it also has a harsh high end.

    Reading the specs you provided the yeti has 48Khz sampling rate. The other one said 16-24Khz. Did you get those backwards? I "can hear" (really?) the digital in the black one. And you sure wouldn't choose an internal mic as your USB interface given a choice.

    Not much differnces but its really sad that the samson does not support stereo polar pattern.Otherwise would be my pick at least for Asmr videos

      Yeah, right - and you are comparing a 1200.00 mic with a 150.00 mic, so what is your point?

    According to Samson's email reply to me today - the Samson G-Track Pro microphone is NOT actually a 24bit / 96kHz microphone. On the off chance that this is a technical support training issue, could you please confirm (in windows sound) that it is actually being detected at 24bit / 96kHz, either single or two channel? There also do not appear to be any kernel mode drivers.

    Hi Bandrew - absolutely love your channel and the fantastic, thorough reviews. Curious to get your opinion on choice between these mics for a specific scenario --> looking for just one mic to record me (guitar and vocals) plus another person (percussion) for quick youtube music videos. I love the sound and features of the Samson (e.g., line input), but would the stereo pattern on the Blue Yeti be better suited for this setup need? thanks!

    Just received a Blue Yeti ISB mic. Unfortunately using the iPad camera lightening adapter (with power also plugged into adapter) as described in various videos I can’t get the iPad (iOS 13.2.3] to recognize the blue yeti!? The kicker is that my iPhone is able to recognize it?! But I bought it for recording and production with my iPad. I am beyond frustrated and can’t seem to find any explanation as to why this is so. If anyone has any clue as to why please please let me know.

    I have owned this microphone for a year and was really happy until one day the Cardioid mode sounded very low and muffled, Fig 8 and Omni sound great. Any ideas why this mode loses quality?

      I don't know what would cause that issue. I'd recommend contacting the manufacturer to see if you can RMA it because that sounds like a capsule may have failed or something with the circuitry when wonky. Good luck Kenny.

    So the Samson if you want to plug in a guitar and Blue if you want stereo recording. I think the Samson G wins.

      if you have a deeper voice, you got to go 100% with the G Pro, its just better.. but if you find it better over all, buy the yeti, I prefer the G Pro.
