    You do'nt always need a sale sheet or leaving samples. You give samples, you will end up chasing then asking if the had tried it or sampled it then it becomes LONG !! . Carry your stock and products with you. You can agressivley sell /pitch your product to the owner there and then , by turning up with no appointment, inform him or her of your selling price plus RRP ( some may set their own RRP), supply them there and then and collect cash on the 1st order then you may have to invoice them but most will pay cash. I wouldnt give them 30days 40days etc, only Big stores with 4 -5 stores. At the end of the day you are likely to be chasing up invoices. small batches- higher margins, mass production - small margins but Bigger orders This is how i work in UK London

    Turn around time is an important factor I'm glad you mention Damien - Unexpected delays or other projects that are scheduled to run before yours is scheduled to run being delayed can really put a kink in your restock. Also, there might be terms in your contract as far as a maximum timeframe to restock without penalty ($$$).

    Thank you for making this video it has helped steer me in the right direction. I had a lot of reservations about getting into a grocery store and you confirmed them. I'm a small scale organic farmer and I can see that selling to a grocery store is very impersonal and a lot of hassle which is the opposite of what I want the farm to be. I didn't know about the 30 - 90 day terms. It seems like for a small farm like mine getting into a grocery store could hurt the business more than help it. much appreciated

    The issue i have with selling online is that people would need to pay for delivery fees just to purchase spices- people dont usually buy spices from online stores- they usually buy them from supermarkets along with other groceries.

    Just my two cents. For our regional store chains here in the Midwest, we have to register with Rangeme.com and build out the our profile to get approved and in the stores system.( their rangeme link is on their website but you are held exclusive to that chain for about 30 days be fore you can submit to another store) unless you bye a rangeme membership at $1300+ a year. we then had to get the product in to 20-25 of their location by talking to the store manager / director and fulfill all orders and in most cases you have to visit each store to check if they need more or they will not keep you in stock before they pull you into the warehouse for the entire chain. At this point they talk in skids vs. cases.

  • @redbeardseasonings4657
    @redbeardseasonings4657 Před 3 lety +4

    OK this is my last comment sorry haha - YES - always go in person and meet with the manager or owner! ALWAYS take free samples and a product/pricing list. THEN follow up 5-7 days later if you haven't heard back. Be professional and halfway persistent, but not overbearing and annoying. Make the manager or owner feel and see why your product is above the rest and unique (without lieing to them or bulls***ing them).

      Thank you very much for valuable tips. I started a chicken sausage brand last year and my co-packer requires MOQ of 500lbs per SKU (got it down from 2000lbs per sku). I am planning on 2 SKUs, so 1,000lbs of sausages, total. Of course, they are perishable and temperature sensitive. I am currently sampling with the co-packer and I wanted to secure sale with the grocery market BEFORE products are in mass production. In this case, is it ok to bring the manager/owner of the grocery store a sample that's not yet ready for retail without UPC and all the labels? Once I bring the samples over, what will they do with it? They'll cook it and test?
      Your advice will mean a world to me. It's really inspiring to see someone who already got into retail. Thank you!

We are opening an energy drink business and studying where we should start whether online and roll out in local grocery stores, and whether the former or the latter, what kind of marketing do you recommend starting with to get those beverages off the shelfs in store or sold online? So if they order 50 cases to many and it expires, I have to pay for that? What incentive do they have not to over order product and essentially destroy my business ? I could order 1000$ of dollars worth of product and just let it go bad knowing that the supplier will have to pay up? seems weird.
