  • AHOY! In today's episode we travel from Belhaven NC to Elizabeth City NC aboard SeaSHINE, our 56 Ocean Alexander motor yacht. Along the way we encounter fog and look for alligators along the Allagator river. We also discuss which route to take through this section of the Great American Loop. The options are staying on the ICW and stopping at Coinjock. Or you can take a slight detour and go thru the Dismal Swamp. Mark has dreamed of doing the Dismal Swamp for years but it is a risky detour. Should we do it?

Y’all had smooth ride across the sound. I was hoping y’all were going thru the dismal swamp in this episode. Until next time. You can see y’all are getting more comfortable docking and undocking. Y’all produce very entertaining vlogs. Each one is different which makes me always ready for the next one. Even though y’all did this two years ago it fills like we’re going along with your adventure, then it’s like, oh they’re back on land. 😂

It has been super fun to re-live each leg of the loop! Thanks for joining the adventure and for the great feedback! We really appreciate it :)

I sail the Albemarle sound and you guys were lucky that it was so calm the day you crossed. It’s shallow and gets rough pretty quick when the wind gets up. Fair winds and following seas.

That was a great analogy comparing the first month of looping to life with a newborn. So much to think and worry about and to marvel and fall in love with.

I am so glad you get the analogy! Looping and parenthood are both magical and exhausting at the same time. Thankfully, like caring for a newborn, looping got easier with time.

Don't worry about the bugs in the Dismal Swamp, they're nothing compared to what you'll encounter in Canada, and here in Michigan. We feed our mosquitos and horse/deer flies with real food. Might want to keep a line tied to the kids or the bugs up here might take home a prize.

We do the NC loop at least once a year and just WOW the sound really laid down nice for y’all. Can’t wait to see which way you took.

We lucked out for sure!!! I imagine there are viewers out there who think we were stressing for no reason but we hear it can get gnarly. Good to know our concern was merited.

Love Ya'll and you are saying it correctly. My family had a house there and did a lot of fishing and skiing on the Yeopim River. If you see a large banner looking structure, that used to be a target for the navy, also there is a Marina near there from i remember is kinda nice.

SO GLAD I was saying it correctly. I am known for messing up pronunciation of things so it is reassuring to know I got this one right. I am sure I'll get plenty of names wrong in the future that we can all laugh at. And what a fun place to grow up fishing and skiing!

The Alligator Pungo canal is quite possibly one of the most boring stretches of water in this region. 3 hours of no change of scenery. Ugh. 😂 BUT, I’m from NC and have enjoyed seeing some very familiar waterways. SHINE ON.

How did you remedy your electrical issues. We are beginning our loop this September and are having issues GFCI pedestals.
    We are enjoying your videos
    Thanks

    • @TheBoomershines
      @TheBoomershines  Před měsícem

We had an electrician on board for two solid days. He traced our problem back to a ground on our washer and dryer. After that, we were pretty good. We still crossed our fingers and toes every time we pulled up to a marina with GFCI pedestals. We had an issue with one other pedestal but in hind sight we think it was an issue with the marina. If you are having issues, just steer clear from new marinas with the GFCI pedestals if at all possible.

      @@TheBoomershines thank you. We
Are going to install an isolator transformer to help with it. These new pedestals are a pain.
      Thank you again

@@charliemanders1417 They are a pain indeed! We dreaded them and tried to stay at marinas that did not have them -- which was mostly possible except in areas hit by hurricanes that had all new marinas. Best of luck!!!
