They’ve got more great recent songs under their belt like ‘Solid Gold’, ‘Open Fire’ and ‘Rock and Roll Deserves To Die’. Agree that ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ is their biggest hit.
Jamel you could do a solid month of nothing but music from The Darkness and not find a bad cut. They aren’t for everyone, but many of the everyone never gave them a second listen. Easily one of the best bands in the past 20 years.
The Hawkins brothers of The Darkness name Queen as one of their favorite bands, among others... and in their current lineup, Rufus Tiger Taylor is their drummer (son of Queen drummer and vocalist Roger Taylor). - so yes, there is a definite connection.
I love The Darkness!! They're amazing live! You should react to more of their songs: "I believe in a thing called love", "Rock n roll deserves to die" and a wonderfully weird and beautiful little song called "Deck chair".
The Darkness had a great sense of humour. They were tongue-in-cheek but also serious musicians. Justin Hawkins, the lead singer, doesn't take himself seriously, he just likes to make fun music. The songs often had double meanings or pun titles. Bells end / Bellend is a British insult for reference. Calling someone a bellend is like calling them a dick, which made this song a bit of a comedy song.
Hiya, just FYI, The Darkness is definitely not in past tense - they're still putting out albums and touring (albeit after a few years break) and their sense of humour is thoroughly intact.
About Justin's sense of humour, saw an interview with him where he talked about managing to shoehorn "Bell-End" and "Ringpiece" into a song and get it past the censors without anyone realising!! 😂
Looks like this was your introduction to The Darkness! Lots of great songs: I Believe in a Thing Called Love, Love Is Only A Feeling, Girlfriend, Last of Our Kind, Everybody Have a Good Time, Is It Just Me? to name a few. And yes, they have some Queen influences - in fact, their drummer for the last few albums is none other than Queen's drummer, Roger Taylor, son, Rufus Taylor!
Saw The Darkness 2 years ago in a 700-seat club, and they brought the house down. Criminally underrated band that deserves more love. Good ear with the Queen vibe, definitely inspired by them as well as AC/DC too. A band that's serious about not taking things too seriously.
If you ever have the opportunity to see The Darkness live, you must go whether you're familiar with their back catalogue or not it doesn't matter, I guarantee that you'll have a great time. Their shows are so much fun, I'm usually still smiling for days after seeing them.
It's no surprise you got Queen vibes from the Darkness. They're HUGE fans of Queen. Justin (lead singer) has Queen tattoos on his hand, and interestingly their current drummer (robot guy was the original drummer) is Rufus Taylor, son of Roger Taylor - Queen's drummer. Also they definitely enjoyed getting the words Bell End into this song. They also have a song called Growing On Me (which is brilliant) which Justin insists is about love and not an STI, but the lyrics don't really work if it's about love.... They are wonderful and definitely brought back that old school rock flavour that I hadn't heard for quite a while. Their whole debut album (Permission to Land (which is also why there was the spaceship at the end of this vid - little nod to that) is brilliant.
Loved the Darkness. Saw them at the NEC. Best part was when the lead singer rode a flying tiger over the audience while playing a guitar. I always hear Queen, Boston and led zep in their sound
Man, I love these boys. Saw them live when "I Believe In a Thing Called Love" was big on the radio in 2004. I went for the support band -- The Wildhearts, who you really need to check out! -- and ended up becoming a fan of The Darkness because the show was so good. Great band. Listen to "Growing On Me" and "Love Is Only a Feeling."
The last Album "Easter is Cancelled" is extraordinary. Worth a listen! Merry Christmas ❤ PS Their present drummer is the son of the drummer in Queen. Brian May has popped in to play with them on occasion.
The US was the home of the Christmas song in the 50s. The U.K. in the 70s. The Darkness were doing a pastiche of this with this song. Classic, every trope was in there; bells, children singing, snow, it had it all!
Fun fact! He wouldn’t have been on this since he joined in 2015, but their drummer these days is Rufus Tiger Taylor, son of Queen’s drummer Roger Tayor! (Who has also been a touring musician for Queen and Adam Lambert, so you can find drum battles between him and his father too!)
Fun fact about The Darkness. They released their latest record ‘Easter is Cancelled’ in October 2019. The title track of which eerily predicts what would happen with the current situation the world finds itself in. You should check that song out too. Merry Christmas Jamel and a Happy New Year!
"I believe in a thing called love", "Love is only a feeling", "Growing on me", "All the pretty girls" and "Solid gold" are some other Darkness songs you need to check out!
The darkness are amazing and they have a really viral hit song/video called "I believe in a thing called love" its off of their first album "Permission to land" and honestly every song on that album is a great song, the music videos tell a story too from one to the next as it shows their journey on their spaceship
The spaceship is a reference to their first album Permission To Land. Have a listen to their back catalogue. So good!! Talking of Queen vibes, their drummer (nowadays) is Rufus Taylor who is none other than the son of Roger Taylor, the drummer for the band Queen.
"I believe in a thing called love"...really anything on the album "Permission to Land" is fire! Even their later albums are great. Just start down the rabbit hole which is "The Darkness" and enjoy. Justin's voice is amazing. Him and his brother Dan are guitar royalty.
You really on a roll! Tracy from NC wishes you peace and goodwill!!!! Love to your family! You need to hear them sing more! Hr really hits Freddie from Queen notes!
I just discovered your channel a few days ago and in that time I must have watched about 50 of your videos. I LOVE THESE!!!!! THEY ARE SO MOTIVATING TO WATCH AND I LOVE THAT YOU LOVE THE MUSIC. I particularly loved the Led Zeppelin and Grand Funk vids.
“Don’t let the bells end” is a cheeky reference because in the uk, the term bell end can be used to describe... well I’ll let you figure it out Haha you can also call someone one, if they are annoying hahaha so great song but also very cheeky 🤭🤭🤣🤣
Never heard of them or this song. But that was a fun video!! Probably gonna watch a few more times because I'm sure there are things to pick up in the vid!! 🎄🎁❤
My favourite Darkness song is 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman'. I saw them live some years back and they were awesome. A great, fun rock band. Fun fact. The lead singer, Justin Hawkins, appeared [masked up] on the first season of The Masked Singer UK. That was a surprise.
Oh I'm laughing so much at this, made my day, your interpretation of what "don't let the bells end" means.... just type in bell end definition....These were great, a throwback micky take of the 70s glam rock bands hence the outfits, but boy could Justin sing x
One of the few modern bands who still wears their classic roots proudly......lots of killer songs by this band...and a great sense of humor to boot....Check out 'English Country Garden'.........MERRY CHRISTMAS to you Jamel, and everyone else who sees this!!!!....Jamel, you have brought a lot of happiness and good times to a bunch of people in a very crazy year....Thankyou sir...you are one of a kind....
I've never heard this song or even heard of the band, but this was great! Also, love your Christmas outfit! Your videos have helped me through a tough year! Thanks, Jamel, and all the best to you and your family!!
The Darkness are superb, seen them live many times. Proper British Glam Rock band that don’t take themselves seriously but do make some banging tunes. You definitely need to check them out, Love on the rocks is one of my favourites and really showcases Justin’s epic vocal range. If you’re doing Christmas songs the you’ve got to get a bit of Pavarotti in there from his Christmas Concert at Notre Dame, also Celine Dions version of Oh Holy Night is a belter! Loving your work brother!
Actually the line "Don't let the bells end" is a TRIPLE entendre - you've already been told what "bell end" and "bells end" might mean, but remember, there is a brand of blended whisky in the UK called Bells - so don't let the "Bells" end also means I'll be all right if I've got plenty of whisky......:-)
OMG this is one of my favorite Christmas songs! Its random, but for some reason I enjoy it. The Darkness is best known for "I Believe In a Thing Called Love" but anything off Permission to Land is fire (although most of it is NSFW.) "Black Shuck" is good from them and the "With A Woman"/"Everybody Have a Good Time" official video story is solid. So a lot of the reason they did this song was to get the phrase "bell's end" on the radio during the big British Christmas music push, since it is slang for penis. Thanks for this one and Merry Christmas!
Love your videos, Jamel! :) Work and life has been stressful, so thank-you for giving us all something to look forward to. Also, please check out I Believe in a Thing Called Love (also by The Darkness) if you have not already. You will love it!
YES! I messaged you on IG about checking out The Darkness, you've got to check some of their other tracks now, I Believe In A Thing Called Love and Love Is Only A Feeling!!

Hell yeah! Jamel checking out The Darkness! You should definitely check out their most famous song ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’. Such good music with a silly retro video. Love it!

Fun Fact, Rufus Taylor, son of Roger Taylor (the drummer of Queen), is the new drummer of The Darkness (this video was before his time, though). Rufus has been playing in the band for years now, so I guess he's technically not new any longer:)]
I loved this song until I started working at an after-school club and during the Xmas break, the kids played it about twenty times a day for the whole of the holiday singing along to every word. I was surprised it was allowed because of some of the lyrics but as it turned out, a great deal of the parents had never actually stopped to listen to it when it was played so they had no idea.
"Father Christmas" by Greg Lake (of ELP)...Great song and arrangement about the commercialization of Christmas!!! The best version is the live one at the huge St. Bride's Church in London with flutist Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull....amazing video! Merry Christmas! (7) I believe in Father Christmas - Greg Lake - Ian Anderson - CZcams
Jamel, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Been enjoying your ‘Reacting to.....’ videos since the start of this lockdown. Stay safe and well. 🎄😊 Regards from a Scottish subscriber. 🏴
Merry Christmas brother, from St . Louis MO. You will be happy to no that there is video footage of SRV and his older brother Jimmy Vaughan playing a double neck guitar together at the same time. You should react to. ITS EPIC .by the way I saw Stevie in concert back early 80s. I'm fighting through end stages of rare cancer and I wanted to thank you for helping me through the long nights watching you KEEP GREAT MUSIC ALIVE PEACE HIPPIE JOE
LOVE The Darkness!!! Saw them in concert Feb 2020 in Hamburg (just before the lockdown in Germany)! These guys are serious musicans with a wonderful sense of humor (they don't take themselves too seriously!). They are unabashedly influenced by Queen and glam rock and Steven Tyler. They've performed with Brian May several times. Please check out two songs from their first album 'Permission to Land'. The videos follow one another- pls do 'I believe in thing called love' first, then 'Friday Night'. You will not regret it!!!
Their biggest hit was " I believe in a thing called love " you get a proper listen to his fantastic voice ❤️
The video will blow your mind. The whole thing is packed with Throwbackness!
They’ve got more great recent songs under their belt like ‘Solid Gold’, ‘Open Fire’ and ‘Rock and Roll Deserves To Die’. Agree that ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ is their biggest hit.
Such a brilliant song!

They are for everyone 😬
It’s just that some people are too stupid to realise 😏
best live band I've seen just from the sheer effort / energy they put out. Who else shreds behind their head while riding a bouncer through the crowd?
The Darkness - serious rockstars taking the piss. What's not to love?
How they got away with “bellsend” and “ringpeice” 😂😂. God the radio DJs are so naive.
They aren't called double entendre for no reason.
@@onsesejoo2605 I'd like a double entendre, but no one will give me one!
🤣
Because they say Bells End and Ring in Peace and not Bell End and RingPiece
Everybody, including DJs get the joke.
The darkness rock!!!! Such an amazing band to see live. Witty lyrics. Great guitars. Love them.
Father Christmas by the Kinks.
I saw The Darkness and couldn't click fast enough!! Yay!!!!!
PLEASE do more from The Darkness. They've got so much good music. They kind of remind me of early Queen.
The Hawkins brothers of The Darkness name Queen as one of their favorite bands, among others... and in their current lineup, Rufus Tiger Taylor is their drummer (son of Queen drummer and vocalist Roger Taylor). - so yes, there is a definite connection.

The Darkness is one of the most underrated bands ever!!! I really hope you react to any of their other songs, they're great
The darkness is still around. First time hearing the darkness, i laughed so so hard, i cried.
I think the thing to keep in mind with The Darkness is their approach of ‘if a thing’s worth doing, it’s probably worth overdoing’!
The Darkness are great: you should definitely check out "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" and "One Way Ticket to Hell (and Back)"
