Thanks great vid clear and informative, just what I needed. I wasn't sure the TRV would fit into the same space as The old type valve, but now I see how it's done. Just one question please ? can I use the old nut on the feed pipe or do I have to remove the old one and it's olive ? cheers.... Chris.

Great video thank you! Unfortunately I took off my lockshield and fitted new one and no matter how tight or how much PTFE it still leaked from the bottom.
    1) does it matter that it wasn't connected to the rad ? Ie would that have stopped the leak from the bottom had I connected the second end? (I'm guessing not but just checking!)
    2) if not, I think I probably cut the pipe by accident as the lockshield was turning fully around on the pipe when I was trying to undo it.
Would you recommend using any PTFE tape when placing the olive on the copper pipe or is it just worth doing on the bottom of the lockshield thread ?
Thanks in advance and keep up the excellent videos!!

    @SudAshra Pƙed 4 lety

    Nice informative vid Thanks.
I just bought 6 new TRVs to replace old valves. I'll need to swap the tails in the rads too. The thing is that the tails that are supplied with the TRVs do not have a flange between the threads and the tightening nut to stop/limit how far in you can screw the tail. When do do I know to stop screwing in? To see the kind of tail I have look at Danfoss TRVs.
    Thanks in advance.

    great, useful vids.
I recently moved into a house we're the only radiator not to have TRV is in the bathroom.
Our thermostat for the boiler is a wireless one.
your video says you shouldn't have a thermostat in the same room as a radiator with a TRV, I do understand the reason behind this.
At the minute I got the thermostat in the living room with the TRV set at 5 (max) to try and leave the radiator open and stop any interference with the radiator switching off before the thermostat is up to temp. but i do think sometimes the radiator shuts off before the thermostat is up to temperature, also I'm finding is the bedrooms don't seem that warm which are all set to 3.
Any suggestions of any other way around this, there isn't a radiator in the hallway.
Also the TRV's are labelled 0 - 5, is there a set standard of number to room temperature

Hi my hot water in is in the bottom of the radiator as in this video but some people say we need to place it upside of the radiator to make it work efficiently because the heating air rises up so if the valve is placed up the heating air will rise up and valve will get the real temperature then. What do you think?

Hi, very good videos. I have an end terrace built 1995. water tank up in the attic. boiler as usual in kitchen. all radiotrs in house working fine except the living room one on ground floor. it was working but in last 2 weeks has stopped working. pipes going to it are cold too. so far all i have done is open valve fully (the one on right hand side of rad). no effect. I have seen that another issue is the TRV might not be working (pin stuck), i will try that this eve. I also had curtains covering the TRV so that could also be an issue as it cant read temp? I havent tried bleeding yet. if after all this the pipes are still cold what else could it be (i have also tried rebalancing). My main concern is why the pipes to and from rad are also cold, could there be a block? or is that nothing to do with it? thanks in advance, Craig

If I do this change because upstairs in my house I have a very high temperature specifically in one radiator, would it be possible to use a pipe freezing kit instead of a complete draining? Just because I share the house with other six people and I wanna be really quick. If not before I drain the system shall I only go to the the thermostat and set to the lowest temperature so it shuts off a completely the radiator or am I going to electrically shut the boiler off as well?

Thank you! I live in the US and have Myson radiators on a boiler system. The system was not installed with TRV's in each room and I would love to have them. Do I just need to make sure there is a bypass before I install these so the hot water will continue through the rest of the zone? This sounds dumb but nobody here knows anything about this system (it was brought here and installed by the previous owner who was from the UK) when I call any professionals they have no idea...

Great info video but if I may, just one slightly important aspect of installing a TRV that I believe you missed in this video is that it must be oriented correctly on the IN FLOW of the hot water as if you put it on the return flow it will not work as per the last post or similar. Obvious to pro's but to DIYers it is not. You need to check which is the IN flow of hot water before attaching the TRV. Check the arrow on the valve. You do this by turning the heating on and seeing which side gets hot first! Not rocket science BUT crucial!... and omitted in the video. You can fit it on the return flow but it must be at 90 degrees to that of the in flow. i.e. TRV appears to be horizontal. I mention this as a numpty DIYer did this on a house I moved into and the rads did not work. Hope this is of use.

Never use a thermostatic head vertical, heat from under wil it make close faster than it normally should do.
En why are people grips so much instead of 2 spannners?
Grips will damage your valve and there is no need to do that. Use 2 spanners al the time!
