Continuing our ongoing gem series, today we’re putting the spotlight on three different Homeworld gems. As always, we’ll be examining some of the specific gems’ histories, personalities, powers, and see if the real world stones they get their names from had any potential impact on their design and characterization.

Notice how Yellow Diamonds song “What’s The Use Of Feeling Blue?” has the line “An Agate terrifies”. Now remember when Amethyst attacked Jasper with a whip at first, you could see a look of surprise and maybe fear cross her face before she gathered herself. Also, looking at Peridot’s reaction when Steven rolled up a towel to resemble a whip of sorts? I love how this series has little tid bits like that.

Bismuth also says that not all quartz soldiers can summon a weapon like that, I think it really makes sense!
Agates are definitely those in charge of training and/or discipline
Interestingly enough, Lemon Jade has 6 fingers on each hand, equally 12 in total. She mentioned that Jade is for 12th wedding anniversaries. Interesting design feature that may be intentional!!!

Technically we saw her twice
We saw her fused in the background of Homeworld Bound, and she looked happy. I wish there was a scene she spoke to Stevonnie or Garnet.
The rings in Holly's buns are a reference to the rings and patterns of real world agate. I noticed that when I put my blue agate over a flash light, as it's semi transparent the rings were hidden just like how Holly secretly wished to have been made for yellow

It was insinuated that Zircons(or at least, the Diamond's Zircons) could get shattered for losing a case, because Blue Zircon mentions how her "gem is on the line" Of course, this could mean her reputation, but however you want to see it.
I honestly kind of doubt it because have you ever seen home world be wasteful
It could just be a saying. Like how some humans would say "my ass is on the line."
i wonder if it's only certain cases - cases that the diamonds (or other judges if there are other gems that do this or can depending on the situation) have a bias against. for example about rose quartz shattering pink diamond, and i don't know how fair homeworld is about those stuff, especially from what we've seen in the trial zircons seem to be really careful on being at the judge good side in what they are saying so superior gems that have power over them won't hurt them

The Blue Zircon is one of my favorites if not the best character in the show as she is the first character to be able to analyze and conclude that there was a flaw in the story being told about Pinks shattering she was a catalyst that helped change the story and showed the audience what we should had realized for a long time, that Pinks shattering had way more to it and we don’t know the real story
if blue diamond were to use her old power on spinel would she react the same as lapis because of how much emotional trauma she went through? 😳
I mean spinel has gone threw almost as much trauma that lapis has so spinel would likely shead a tear or two but me immune
They both experienced the same things
I mean nerdwire said less empathic people shed less tears so I think you're immune if that is cannon
i think it depends on how they each handle their trauma
@@hispartyinvite1632 yeah, lapis didn't handle it very well, but spinel handled it exceptionally well, so would be affected as much as any other gem.

Pebbles are pebbles pink brought to life. You can see in the show that he creates a new one
@@Janpeders24 rebeca sugar confirmed that the pebbles are gems and their gems are pebbles and the one that steven created Is very different to the others, she is a rock the other ones have bodies made of light and a gem somewhere
Since they are made of pink/roses tears and they are a lot, she must have cried a lot😢
Jade being the official gem of twelfth wedding anniversaries could be the reason for Lemon Jade having twelve total fingers!
My favourite zircon fact: it's radioactive! Very slightly, but it's still one of - to my knowledge - quite a few gems that retain a low level of radioactivity throughout their lifetimes. This means the older a zircon is, the more unstable it is and the easier it chips, as the radioactivity slowly changes the composition of the gem.
perhaps that adds some weight to the line "My gem is on the line." And the tidy tidbits we got about haravesting? What if zircons are shattered if they lose too many trials and are used to make more zircons?
I think its interesting that even though right-cheek and left-cheek are both jades, their fusion has multiple body parts. A trait we only see in different gem fusions most of the time.
One of them was either a different type of jadeite or in another court. Anything is possible in SU, even Onion being a gem or something (why no ears? there is tomfoolery afoot).
Zircons contain uranium. They can be mildy radioactive. They are also extremly durable. They are used to date some of the oldest rock formations in the world. I kind of expected it to come out that the zircons where older than the diamonds.

Holly Blue's desire for order becomes more apparent, when the Zoo is converted into a "cruise ship" of sorts. She hates seeing all the Amethysts relaxing and "showing a total lack of order" and still longs for the Diamonds oppressive rule. But even though she still doesn't seem to respect Steven in a typical sense, she knows not to speak ill of him when he's around
Blue and Yellow Zircon remind me of Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth from Ace Attorney. Miles actually went through a lot himself in those games, learning his skills as a prosecutor from his abusive mentor, Manfred Von Karma, the same man who murdered his father. If Yellow Zircon is a reference to Miles Edgeworth, it wouldn't surprise me if she had a similar backstory.

The trial is basically just one big reference to ace attorney
I think newer quartz solders get put under Holy Blue's disciplinary hold. Its apparent on Jasper's face when Amethyst first pulls out her whip that she is surprised and frightened. Probably a pavlovian response to a whip shes probably been on the tail end before

I don't think Yellow Zircon went through any trauma. I think she's just that stoic lawyer type that is really good a repressing their personal feelings. Lawyers are taught to separate their personal feeling when handing their clients, and this probably extends to the Diamonds as well. Since we know that Blue Diamonds power is making gems feel what she feels, if Yellow Zircon can separate herself from what Blue Diamond feels, then she wouldn't be as affected.
Yellow zircon was called off colour as green and had proved herself and that’s why they so cocky she worked so hard for it
I really like this gem series, but would you be interested in doing one for other series? Like, there are tons of characters in Sailor Moon named after gems, such as Queen Beryl, Jadite, Nephrite, Zoicite, Kunzite, etc. I'd be interested in seeing analysis of them

Okay good! Glad I'm not the only one who was like what is this BDSM/domme nonsense when I realized Hollyblue was rocking thigh highs and a WHIP. I love her design, wish she was a bit nicer but I like that they show a former basic authority figure coping with the new Era.
It helps that they put her on a ship of party people lol I'd love to have seen more of her dealing with the zoo humans and the famethysts antics and having no control and slowly being won over.

I think that the yellow zircon is not affected by blue's powers because she is probably in the court so much with her. You see yellow diamond not being affected because they are basically sisters and are together often. If you could relate this to blue being a judge in the court that the yellow zircon works with, then, that's why she has resistance to the power. It is like sean evans in hot ones i guess.

Rose Quartz are mainly free, causing s tiny rebel symbolism in them. They also are very excellent guards to hire, as they heal gems almost perfectly!

You mentioned Tanzanite and I instantly thought of my gemsona Taafeitite, whom I originally called Tanzanite. I designed her to be kinda butch, like she's a working gem. She's paired with a Beryl who gets premenitions of events happening far away from her. Together, the two make Varisite. :D

My theory of why yellow zircon not being affected heavily by blue diamonds powers, is probably because she seen different off colors gets shattered or worse.
I really want to see an episode on the gems blue diamond lists under the name garnet! I remember her listing a bunch of gems under the garnet category. Maybe the name garnet in gem society was a name that was given by a gems status?
The thing about lapis, also Garnet, sapphire more than likely wasn't affected but Ruby would have been which is why Garnet is down for a second before angrily getting up
I don't think it is trauma for yellow z. But I think that she has felt it so many times, she is use used to it, while blue z. is newer than her
