See Mariah has it all! The range, the tone. The bad thing is her breathing. She's constantly gasping for air taking in small amount of air in! If she would master her breathing she would just be out of this world AMAZING!!! Regardless though, in my opinnion, she still is out of this world amazing!! Love u Mariah!!
What is up with these comments? 'She struggled,' 'Her voice had already started fading here.' What? She sounds unbelievable here. This is easily the best performance of the song; she's hitting all the notes with such ease. Her vocal peak, obv.
I think she sounds absolutely fantastic, granted a slight hoarseness and dryness but simply amazing. But that can happen to anyone on a slightly off day or being overworked as she was at that time. But still, definitely an amazing vocal performance , even for Mariah.
@byronmohawk, she was moving around a lot because she was obviously feeling the music - mariah (on more than one occasion) said fantasy is one song that she particularly likes to perform live. Here, she was like "oh to hell with it...imma have fun. at least i'm not doing drugs like a particular someone ahem ahem"

'The Change' started here? You people are crazy, first of all this was before the Daydream tour. Second of all this performance was fantastic, and third of all her voice was fine in '97 and '98. The Rainbow era is kinda where she was strained but she was fine after that.

@byronmohawk No, you're comment didn't offend, lol. I just was kind of shocked; I figured this was well thought of as Mariah's vocal peak, and as one of the best 'Fantasy' performances. I don't really think it's fair to compare to the MSG performances, considering those are dubbed.
@repenttyourself It's just because there is a little hoarseness at the beginning that was a little unusual for her at that point and sounds like her voice now. Again, check out the 1995 Madison Square Garden performance and compare the two and you'll see what I'm talking about. This one is still MUCH better than any Fantasy performance I've seen from 1997 and later though...

I guess I was just used to seeing basically all her other live performances before 1996 performed flawlessly and effortlessly. This is pretty good, but the Madison Square Garden performance of this song was MUCH more effortless at the beginning. It may just be that the acoustics on this stage were lousy or something. Check out the MSG performance. Sorry if my comment offended. I really absolutely love her!

I remember watching this when it first came on. And I also remember thinking (for the first time ever at that time) that she doesn't sound that good. Kind of out of breath, screechy and pitchy. Now there's more bad performances that good ones. Oh well she's still one of my favorites.

People chill her voice sounds perfectly fine here, she is not straining or sounding tired or out of breath this is a very good perfprmance, i like it!
