Casting Rocket Metal as a prototype Neo Metal Sonic and the X-Treme Mecha Sonic as an equivalent to Metal Sonic Kai was an incredible touch.

Even if we know that Sonic is okay, watching Tails trying to shake him awake is heartbreaking
I remember trying to pause during this cutscene and somehow ending up with only the first part of the cutscene playing, and knuckles being slowly dragged off screen by metal as tails tried to wake up a dead sonic. Heartbreaking.
Knuckles holding Rocket Metal back while Fang shoots at him is such a good moment. Especially considering it's 100% believable-- Knuckles, obviously, wants to help his newfound friends (newfound as in, this game takes place mere minutes after Sonic 3K) and Fang wants some good old fashioned revenge on Metal for attacking him ADZ. Part of me thinks it would be more in-character for Fang to just cut and run, but he probably did that once Sonic and Metal left the ADZ, and I can totally get behind him taking some potshots at Metal on the way out lmao.
Personally I imagine he shot metal because he was pissed at Metal stealing his gem. YOU TOOK MA EMERALD?!
Fang is way more interesting as an anti-villain than a straight-up villain. He’s not evil, just greedy and opportunistic.
@@_ArmIa I agree, having him as a greedy anti-villain instead of actually evil is much more interesting. Plus, don't see him working together with Eggman normally, he just wants to make money. Could see him clashing with Jet of the Babylon Rogues and Rouge over money too.

I don’t think this takes place RIGHT after S3&K, if it did, why is Metal Sonic here? He wasn’t created until sonic cd, and that did not pass yet.

I love the little bits of storytelling you get from the final arc about Fang. It's absolutely hilarious in the ending cutscene because at first, you think he's joining Knuckles in fighting Metal to save everyone, but in reality, he just _really_ hates Metal Sonic. The pre-Eggman boss fight cutscene was even changed from the original game, changing to him just shooting Metal instead of being scared of the alarms going off.

Who else thought Metal Sonic was gonna turn into Metal Sonic Kai from Knuckles' Chaotix the first time they saw this boss?
I was expecting that and was disappointed that it wasn't the case. The fight with Dark Metal Sonic is still quite good though.

Whoa! I didn't know there was a 16-bit remake of this. I should check it out. I really like Triple Trouble a lot. One of the true gems of the Game Gear library, in my opinion.
This is, without a doubt, the best Super Sonic fight I ever played. Most times it's all about the boss trying to waste your time. You run out of rings trying to hit it. Here, sure it knocks you back with some attacks, but others will damage you, hastening that end. It felt more balanced.
This is genuinely the best Sonic fan game I've ever played. I may genuinely like this more than S3&K.

Fun fact: I played this ENTIRE game on a WII REMOTE. Knuckles' campagn included! The only time I used my keyboard was to figure out what the controls were. When I got to the mashing, I actually struggled, too, but I eventually repositioned and nailed the final hit. It was actually really fun, even though the d-pad doesn't feel the best!

@@inkboi215 Absolutely. All you need is a wii remote, bluetooth, and a dolphin emulator (or driver to connect wiimotes) and GlovePie script that maps everything to the right buttons.

Yooo this blows me away! I remember playing Triple Trouble and thinking it was the best of the Game Gear Sonic games and have a lot of good memories with it. This remake is insane! Why can’t most companies create such cool new games and remakes that surpass the original anymore?

Nice little touch: You can see Knuckles grinning when he stops Rocket Metal from finishing off Sonic and starts pushing him away- "Finally, a challenge!"
That X-treme scrapped boss reminds me of the DBZ movie Super Android 13, maybe because the way Metal transforms.

That scene of metal sonic beating up sonic and tails is more dramatic then I would expect

Kinda wish he became a classic version of Neo Metal Sonic, then a navy Metal Sonic Kai, and finally Metal Overlord. But this was a pretty great boss fight. Wish the portable games got official remakes.
@@lucasw1348 Thought transformations were okay with how Neo Metal and Metal Overlord involved copying Chaos and his forms. But of course I'm not adding Shadow, Silver, Blaze, or any of those guys. Shadow's still in stasis, and if EVER playable, at best, he would just be on the ARK the whole time.
And he even beat the boss with SEVEN rings WITHOUT even trying
Why make Sonic go alone when the opening act showed both he and Tails can go super at the same time?
tails was probably weakened more than sonic was, and he probably couldn't get up in time

I noticed that sonic and tails lost an extra life between when they got smacked into the ground by metal, and when the boss actually starts. Did you do a jump cut because you lost a life or what?
Yeah, pretty much. First time playing the boss, so I wasn't used to his attack patterns and stuff.

I finally see the fight as it really is
When I played it, it was extremely slow.
And it was all because of a hilariously bad implementation of the background during the second phase as the way it was rendered chugged on the game's framerate. So it took a simple fix to just make the background render better.

btw the best strategy is to grind rings in phase 1 and at around 250 rings actually start the fight
makes me wonder what would happen if metal got the phantom ruby.
Imagine a generations 2 where metal is the villian and you have super mania sonic and for the first time hyper modern sonic against phantom metal.

Heroes definitely. It's actually the game I was thinking of, wishing metal would come back in a way. I would love to see metal return to being a full bad guy rather than eggman's pawn.

They accidentally made Metal Sonic really strong in this. I mean, his big rocket form and the attacks of phase 2 onward can knock off Super Sonic's rings. For context, Super Sonic supposed to be invulnerable. You can hit him, it might knock him a few meters away, but he won't receive actual damage, except the rings he lost to Super energy. For comparison, the only other boss that could do damage is Perfect Dark Gaia...
Then again, this is Metal's super form. He may use just the dark part of the Chaos Emeralds, but they're the same in terms of power...
Actually sonic mania had same mechanic where you lose rings if you get hit as super sonic in the final boss

The music is on par with the Beta Sonic 3 music... I'm not sure if these are remasters of the Triple Trouble OST, but... they're kind of hard to hear when you get used to the Masterpieces of Genesis.
Maybe the cancelled boss of Sonic X-treme was meant to do the same?
