    Those seals are the difference between agony and ecstasy. Lubegard ATF Treatment(red bottle) eliminates the harsh gear changes for good in the ZF6. Lubegard is an ester and is OEM approved by several car manufacturers. I run the Pentosin ATF1 with the Lubegard. The shifts are nearly transparent and lightning quick.The ZF628HP and 32 HP have high friction carbon clutches which need friction modified fluid to run smooth. Another issue with worn transmission fluid is it becomes an electrical conductor damaging the mechatronics. Pushing 170000 miles in the X5 with no issues.

      @@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation One of the few additives I can recommend. To give a perspective, Here are my adaptation values currently. A Clutch 138 mb, B Clutch -118mb, C Clutch -12 mb, D Clutch 263 mb, and the infamous E Clutch..-12 mb! The D Clutch is the worst of the bunch, but that only affects 1st gear and reverse which work perfect. I'm about due for a fluid change at 50000 miles(ZF recommended). Don't ever listen to BMW when it comes to transmissions, ever.

    Hey Timm, just wanna responed to my last comment here. I changed the Seals between the Mechatronics and the Gearbox and changed the Front Seal and the Oilpan and changed the complet Fluid in the Gearbox. Now the Driveing of the Car with the Gearbox is awsome! its so smooth and the Gearchanges are nice now.
    The Workshop i was first changed just the Fluid and cleaned it with the cleaner after that it was nice in gearchanges but after a few Kilometers the harch Gearchanges come back. But what the Workshop didnt do was Checking the Oil level after the Change of the fluid. So i think this was also a reason of the Harch changes of the gears.... But anyway.... its all gone now. I Changed it with my good Friend that is a Car Mechanic and he learned at BMW so it was a win win for me to change it with him and got all my problems solved and now i'm Happy with the Car and the Gearbox. (My BMW is a 550i Touring e61) 😎

    Hi all, on my E66 745Li I have DTC code 00507B - “EGS (Electronic Transmission Control) parking gear sensors implausible”, and the symptom is that occasionally the car will not go into Park, it stays in Neutral although it’s not actually in Neutral, it’s in Park! I took it to a transmission specialist near where I live ‘up north’ and mentioned these mechatronic seals to him; he said that the fault indicated an electronic issue, not an oil pressure issue, so it wasn’t the seals. He said that he wouldn’t risk fitting a new mechatronics unit as it may cause other issues on a 2003 car with 162,000 miles on the clock, plus the repair would cost more than the car is worth. Replacing those seals looks like a relatively simple job if you have a lift and the right knowledge and tools, but can I find anywhere that will attempt it……nope! If anyone knows a reputable ZF transmission expert around the Yorkshire/Lancashire area then please let me know. Thank you.

    Hi Tim, Just to update you on my gearbox problems (loosing drive with no fault codes?) The specialist BMW garage changed the gear selector but still had the same problem so after that they changed all the mechatronic solenoids, seals and re set all the adaptations. Have driven the car a few times now and all seems fine. great tip on using beeswax on the leather by the way, looking forward to a good summer now that lockdown is easing. keep up the great work. cheers Martin

    Flawlessly explained start to finish! Thank you very much! I have an auto E92, and it flashed a transmission error (ratio monitoring 3-4) after which somebody reset the adaptation values, and it does not throw up any codes anymore but has sluggish gear changes and shoots RPMs up and down before settling into gear. I am going to try changing all these seals as well as the oil and, if that does not fix it, am probably going to sell the car.

    Hi Timm, thanks for this video. Can I ask your opinion please? I’ve got a 2008 630i on 94k miles. Since I’ve had it at 72k, it does a weird thing - when the engine is cold, for the first couple of miles of driving, if you stop and hold the car on the brakes in Drive, if stopped any longer than about 10-15 seconds, when you let go of the brake the car doesn’t creep at all for a second or two, then suddenly lurches forward. It’s even worse if you let go of the brake and press the accelerator quickly, the revs spin up then the car pulls away with a lurch. However it doesn’t do this in sport mode, or in manual 1st gear. Going into neutral then back to drive it’s fine as well. It feels like it’s lost pressure while stationary. However as soon as the engine or gearbox warms up, or in hotter weather, it’s absolutely fine and normal.
    The gear changes are otherwise smooth and no noticeable slipping or harsh changes.
    I had the gearbox oil changed, had the gearbox software checked and is on latest update, but nobody knows why it’s doing this. I hasn’t got any worse or better in the last 22k miles. Do you think this seal could be causing this, or any other ideas what it could be please?
    Cheers

    • @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
      @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation  Před rokem +1

      Yes, it could well be, and every oil change it is prudent to change all the bridge seals - you are 90% of the way there changing the filter so a seal change should not be more expensive

    • @ventzisergueev4557
      @ventzisergueev4557 Před rokem

      Yes definitely, that’s what’s so frustrating, that i didn’t know about these seals until your video, so will be a hefty oil and and oil pan change again to get to the seals.
      Thanks for the video and advice, hopefully that fixes it!

    Great channel Tim very informative. any thoughts on my problem 645ci?
    BMW 6 Series e64 2004 645ci 66,000 miles
    Gearbox loses drive. No fault codes. Intermittent problem.
    BMW specialist changed transmission fluid using the flush method. Re-set adaptations. Smooth gear changes up and down the box.
    When the car loses drive, I have to stop. No fault codes ever appear. After stopping, I can then drive the car normally again.
    Both the BMW specialist and a gearbox specialist could not find any faults when driving the car and none of their diagnostic equipment recorded any codes. Even when the fault occurred, and they had their diagnostic equipment plugged in, it still registered as the car being in drive.
    The specialists are reluctant to start changing expensive parts as they are not sure this will actually fix the fault, and they have no idea which areas to look for.
    The BMW specialist garage has thoroughly checked all the parameters within the transmission and they all appear to be absolutely fine. They also checked the gear selector module out and that was OK. And also did a resistance check on the wiring to the gearbox and that all seemed OK too.
    I’m at a complete loss as to what to do next. Any advice would be much appreciated.

      @@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation Hi Tim, Thanks for getting back to me. The gear display on the dash stays in Drive mode? It was one of the parts the specialist garage did check out and no faults found. I was wondering if anything other than the transmission and associated parts might be causing my problem? I've owned my car for the last 7 years and have been using the same specialist BMW garage for all my servicing and repairs. They really know their stuff and have a wealth of experience but have never known of such a catastrophic transmission failure not to show any fault code and the car to remain in drive? Cheers Martin

    I need your insight. I bought a 04 645ci in 2020. Transmission codes going off soon after. It has reverse but no drive. I’ve had two service locations diagnose and look at it. One of the guys said it could be a 2,000-25,000$ fix... I’ve put together a large sum of money. Not sure where to start. New gear box, or new transmission?
    White smoke comes out tail pipes. When it would run 1st and 2cd gear would slip. If it actually got past those it seemed to run somewhat fine. It would also rough idle, some times.
    I’m prepared to do a full rebuild if nessisary. Could it be just replacing clutch packs? Or simple fixes? Thank you very much for your videos also

    The bridge seal can recess but that's an issue more widely experienced in the US with a warmer climate. Mine after 150k miles was visually the same as a new one.
    What made the biggest change to shift quality for me was the latest software update and solenoid change. The 6hp26 had huge issues with solenoid failure.

    Timm you should try the XHP transmission software. Made by Austrian tuning company they adapted the ZF 8HP logic to the 6hp box software and made a bunch of improvements. The result is a much smarter box that makes quick decisions based on throttle input changes rather than hesitating or making several shifts. The shifts themselves are also faster and the S/M modes are more sporty. Best thing i did to my car the box felt clueless before in comparison.
