my dad (an aussie) has a story from when he and his mate traveled to raglan. there were surfing these pumping waves and my dads mate ended up dropping in on a huge maori guy who mustve been super local. that night they were camping and guess who shows up with all his mates. they very quickly decided to go to the east coast to surf some 2 foot slop 😂
should of bought some beers....always respect locals..but pay your dues and you can stay...

ecxactly what I did growing up in NZ, 1) Fishing then 2) Diving, then Surfing, was a water boy from birth. Great to see the maori embrace this as back in the 70's it was mainly Pakeha

Maori have always had a close association with the Ocean diving fishing surfing some of the Best Surfers NZ has had were of Maori Desent like the Brazilians fearless and charging what eva waves avalible be Great to see more support in getting them on the world stage NZ will be better for it

They're not, have been in the lineup several times with Kehu and his mates and they're all good, cool to watch them ripping, would much rather them than Aucklanders or rich Mounties
