Battletoads & Double Dragon (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A playthrough of Tradewest's 1993 beat' em up game for the Super Nintendo, Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team.
Played through as Jimmy.
The original NES version of B&DD was quite an impressive feat for the NES's hardware, and this is, more or less, and upgraded version of the same game. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as Battletoads in Battlemaniacs - a closer comparison would be the original Battletoads port on the Genesis, but the higher color depth and enhanced 3D effects do look pretty nice. The soundtrack is a big step up, with Rare's typical high-quality shining through. The controls are also nice and snappy - it feels just like Battletoads, and that's certainly not a bad thing.
The game is oddly easy though - considering how insanely difficult the other games in the series are (and Rare's overall reputation for making such games), B&DD is a pretty quick play. The game becomes much more difficult while playing as the Toads than as the twins, but even then, once you figure out the combo-timings, it's still pretty cake.
Fun game, though, for sure, and if you want to play with a buddy who might not be a gaming pro, this is a game that you both might stand a chance at finishing without cheats! :)

Two of the most iconic beat 'em up game franchises in history...together in one game.
Not sure if Battletoads counts as a pure beat em up game. Lots of levels involve quick timing and instincts rather than just fighting through.
@@jeremykrause9443 I think that's what makes it so cool, variety. Battletoads can be a beatemup, a platformer, a reflex racing game... whatever is needed to keep the game fun.
@@jeremykrause9443platfom and beat em up
What about Joe & Mac...the various Ninja Turtles games...c'mon now
There are works of fiction that absolutely personify an era they’re in.
This game (Especially the soundtrack) was the Nineties distilled into a game.
That guitar sample is dope. The SNES had the Sony sound chip which allowed it to record live instruments opposed to a synthesizer like the Genesis.
That's why I prefer the SNES over the Genesis and NES Versions, you actually get the good music that the makers intended
If you’re talking about the music 🎶 on level 2, then I totally agree. I’ve always loved that tune!
This game just reeks of Saturday morning cartoon nostalgia and I love it for that! Plus even decades later, I still laugh pretty hard at Billy/Jimmy's reaction to the bosses approaching XD
Kinda brings the Arcade Caveman Ninja & SNES Donkey Kong games to mind, they reacted the same way to the level bosses too.
When ever I played this game as a kid I needed a Snickers, a can of Coca Cola and a bag of Doritos. My mom wouldn’t hear from me for hours. Those were the days.
Fuckin A' right!
Could never past this game. Kept us suuper busy
Holy childhood ))
Agreed
A Pepsi 2Liter, gummi bears and Kit Kat for me.
One of the most underrated games ever.
i know it's kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good website to watch newly released series online?
@Brixton Kaysen Flixportal :P
@Antonio Chris thank you, signed up and it seems to work =) I appreciate it!
@Brixton Kaysen you are welcome xD
Loved playing this game! This music was awesome too
When I was a kid I used to laugh my ass off at the scared animation the characters make before a boss appears.
Same though!! I have such great memories of me and my cousins laughing so hard at that
Me Too! Dude I was laughing real hard
Same 😂
I played this game so much as a kid, absolute banger of a SNES game. Took me years to finally beat it, I was so damn proud of myself.
Dave Wise knocked it out of the goddamn park with this soundtrack! These songs still get stuck in my head to this day.
Friend let me borrow it beat it in a few days when I was 11
Dave the wise man is the best composer
this game has aged well :D
My first game played ,I was 6 back then 😊
That stage 3 theme is 🔥🔥🔥
The Toads by the end of the game: “It was all down to team work!!”
Jimmy: “Am I a joke to you?”
I’ve been looking for this game for 20+ years. I’ve spent hours searching. It’s so awesome to hear the music and see the gameplay. I was always stuck on the spaceship. Takes me back to my huge wooden TV, sitting on the floor playing this while all my sisters were half watching.
I was always more of a fan of Double Dragon myself, but this was still a pretty fun game to play through, and nowhere near as hair-pullingly frustrating as the other Battletoads games were. I absolutely love this game's soundtrack!
rcblazer Seriously, this one can be really fun because you don't have to be God to finish it. And totally agree with the soundtrack, but I think David Wise doing music all but guarantees it'll be great.
Аррпукпррррр
An underrated musical score, for sure...
.. ..that music.. ....THAT MUSIC!!!!
This game was my introduction to the "Battletoads"!!
Used to play this all the time at my friends house with his buddy on the "Genesis" when I was in grade school.. .. ..I was so jealous!! xD XD(all three of us took turns in 2-player mode in per stage or per "Game Over".. .. ..Yup!! I'm a 90's kid)
My friend and his buddy would always debate over who gets to play as "Jimmy"... .. and I don't blame 'em.. .."Jimmy" ROCKS!!
"Rareware" needs to do another "Battletoads" crossover like this again with another game property.. .. ..
.. ..by the way, this my sound cliché but, do you have a favorite "Battletoad"??
Rash
Pimple, no matter what entry of the Battletoads. Always Pimple, have many great fights and memories kicking butts with friends!
Billy's the exact same as Jimmy, as are all the 'toads. There are only 2 character archetypes in this game. Zitz is my favorite 'toad; he absolutely crushes in the best 'toads game ever (coin-op). Best smash hits -- all hi-tech & "smarty-like". Morgan Ziegler, baybee! A true leader.
Rash was the man.... and I always teamed up with my older brother and he played always as Jimmy Lee because he was the best Dragon
I would always play as Jimmy and my cousin would play as rash when we were little
Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993) was the best game of my childhood. The graphics and gameplay are far ahead of their time.
I love how Bimmy and Jimmy and the Battletoads are in one game.
Ha! Ha! Bimmy and Jimmy. AVGN DD3!
Clearly, Battletoads Double Dragon is the best Battletoads game because it's difficulty is toned down compared to the first game on NES which required insanely perfect precision and memory
Agreed. We had this one but not Battlemaniacs and looking back, im happy we didn't lol. Battlemaniacs looks prettier but this is a much more solid game👌
This is the only one I remember playing. Maybe it's just because I was a little kid, but I still sucked lmao.
Is that true? That the difficulty is toned down in this one? If that's the case then I might buy it
I loved the opening intro to this game, especially because Dark Queen had dat ass.
NomnomJawsnomnom really lol😂
lol
2:08
Yes she do got a nice butt.
A trilha sonora desse jogo é uma das melhores da história dos jogos! Nostalgia pura!!
One of the best game soundtracks ever!
I agree dude fucking great!
That game is sucks I can't even beat the game.
the music and sound fx for this game were flawless
I have recently done a full remake on my channel taking the best elements from snes AND genesis, feel free to let me know what you think :)
Soundtrack in this version is awesome, especially stages 1,3,5 and final one! Genesis didn't stand a chance)
I recently noticed that in classsic games (almost) all soundtracks when Dark Queen is the final boss is almost the same (same rythm, same structure and same shame easy dificulty of hers)
Why Microsoft? why you ruined Battletoads with that bad 2020 childish reboot???
I had this game for Genesis lol.
The SNES version is missing boss music and turbo tunnel music. The Genesis has music for those things, which makes it better imo.
Idk how as a kid I couldn’t get past the level where you grab the women by their hair and simultaneously punch them in the face
Same, dude. Took me a CZcams video years later to see the other stages. Good Times though
Lol same this Game was so hard
Yep, because of that part you're hanging from the ceiling over a death pit and you get zapped off.
If I didn't lose all my lives there the asteroids level finished me off!
@@KingPBJamesI LOVE how everyone had the same frustrations 😂.
I could never get past the rope part in level 3
i've played nearly every port of this game. loved them all.
nes was the best port for me tbh
ditto. was the first one i played. :D
maxacorn The NES version was the original! :) This, the GB and the MD versions were ports of it
I believe I have them all, NES, GB, SNES, and Genesis carts, got them before they went up in price. Probably the only game where I got all the ports, and within 6 months too.
The soundtrack on this game was so good. I have two of the stage themes in my music playlist. 😎
I really like the scene 5 song
I would always play this one with my friend when I spent the night at his house. Good times!
This game has some really good music.
He is the same person who did the donkey kong games music
I have recently done a full remake on my channel taking the best elements from snes AND genesis, feel free to let me know what you think :)
... and bad sounds compared to the nes version
I dont remember this game being that easy when I was kid .
Bro it took me like 3 years to finally beat this game!! Toughest one for me first was the third boss, then the meteor, after that it got easy for me lol
@@TheDickHead115 i was only 4 and half year old when my father bringed this game, at the age of 5 I already finished it....my father finished it in only 3 months
I highly doubt t you beat this game at the age of 5.
Yeah im gonna have to call bs on that too lol@cherokeefit4248
I remember renting this from 20/20 video and playing it with my brother for hours. Such a classic game in my eyes.
Who’s here in 2021 watching this gem. Man the nostalgia!
I swear this game and f-zero had the best in game music of my childhood.
thanks you. Nostalgie! love this game. come back childhood :]
I always loved the music from 5-1. It's just so 90's and awesome!
"The 'copter heads up into space" Wait, what?
Always remembered that music from Level 2-1.
I have recently done a full remake on my channel taking the best elements from snes AND genesis, feel free to let me know what you think :)
God, I fricking love this rock tune in the beginning...
I still rember playing this with my best school friend just after school at his house with his buddy's wow miss these days,,,,,,,,
I had The Ultimate Team version of this game on my first console and it quickly became my favourite game ever!
Epic intro with awesome artwork really sells it !
Recuerdo el super intro de este juego, lo mejor, el juego en comparacion deja mucho que desear, gracias por subirlo
The Dark Queen's stage theme is 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
The whole game bad*ss.
She is pretty hot too (its a pity she was ruined on the reboot)
Our Dark Queen forever will be that hot black-dressed villainess
WOW!! I’ve been looking for the title of this game for YEARS. After so many attempts I saw a thread about forgotten SNES games and recognized one of the characters. Time to play again.
My childhood, re downloaded it and couldnt even get past the first goddamn level with my little brother
6:43 "Even I could beat Abobo" Yeah, Sure...
one of the best (if not the best outright) crossovers ever made in the history of gaming :D
SUPER NES was such a big step up from Nintendo. Those were some fine graphics that opened up a world of new gaming experiences such as MK, STREET FIGHTER, EARTHWORM JIM, KILLER INSTINCT, DUKE NUKEM 3D, STARFOX, ETC
It's a bit less substantial than Battletoads was, but the difficulty level is *far* lower here, the music is awesome per Rare's standard, and it's a blast with a buddy.
Yeah, the music is really good.
that awesome move at 4:29 hahahaha
NintendoComplete oh yeah
I always loved the soundtrack in this game
Some stuff might get harder compared to NES or Genesis (especially Genesis) but the overall game for me in terms of difficulty the SNES port is 2nd place (based on hardest to easiest, excluding the GB port) feels about right overall between easy and hard (and great music), Genesis for me is the easiest version and the NES the hardest (but also amazing at the same time, heck the game original release was on the NES in the 1st place and showed some stuff the console had to offer in terms of graphics), and compared to the original Battletoads, is not as punishing as said game (but still applies the fact that if one player loses all lives, both players are sent back to either the start of the current stage or any of it's checkpoints, stage 6 and 7 are the shortest anyway), and the Dark Queen boss fight is kinda anti-climatic on the SNES and Genesis (despite on the Genesis the Queen being able to do her NES version shenanigans, but since she moves almost as slow as the SNES version... maybe even slower than the SNES version, you really need to have bad luck for that to happen).
Man this brings back memories!!!
This was such a fun game back then!!! I lost a ton of sleep due to playing this game!!
On summer break, my cousin and I tried beating this almost every day and we finally did it before going back to school. Good times
I love the way everyone looks when they're getting the sh*t beat out of them. Especially the guy's throwing dynamite. 🤣
had so much fun with this game. remeber playing this with my brother. he was trying to run and kick the enemies but ended up kick my ass and then i fell off the spacechip, and this game made us tired of laughing. miss those days.
And Marvel thought they were doing the biggest crossover of all time, lol.
This game was my freaking childhood. Also, anybody else agree that this game had the most kick butt music ever invented in a game? It's so dope dude.
Fire game and Music too !!! Огонь игра и Музыка тоже !!!
Great game. Tough as nails though. Never was able to beat any of the Battletoads games
Fave character was the green toad. Used to love making the big foot move 😂 this is my top 3 snes games for sure!
This game rocks in either version, each of it have it pros and cons. A very good crossover, the dark queen is hot and linda lash too. NES and genesis ending is better, but i still love all versions.
One of my favrite snes game it was soo cool.. so many times i played this
I own this when i was a kid. Very addictive and funny games
I remember as kids we would always skip that space ship stage with a cheat code but had no difficulty on other ones. Then we'd get Prof Chicken tellin us we cant cheat LOL!
Thee crossover of epic proportions!
One of the few games that I have all versions for, NES, Gameboy, SNES, and Genesis.
Only in this game can you say "Turbo Tunnel" and "piss-easy" simultaneously. Also, unlike in the original game, the PCs have every right to only be scared by bosses.
Que buen juego carajo
I don't remember much about this game but I do remember Abobo knocking my ass around like a ragdoll on the first level. I beat him several times but it never felt like it got any easier.
The first 22 minutes watching him absolutely kick ass without taking any hits. Then that freaking spaceship level. Even he had to have unlimited lives to beat it.
14:45 I used the same technique of earning an extra life by performing the "chain reaction" in Battlemaniacs.
I remember playing this when i was like 8 years old with my cousins. I dont ever remember getting past the asteroid level so its nice seeing how it ends
Such fun memories!!
Tremendo juego!!! Me lo dí vuelta 2 veces, después de haber intentado mucho tiempo si xD
I had this as a kid on the NES but I was never good enough to get very far in it. Me and my brother found Roper's level very hard. I managed to get to him maybe twice. I don't think I ever actually beat him.
I always loved how the bad guys came up on the elevators like they were going to their shitty office job. "Goddammit...another one of these assholes breached the shop *SIGH* I swear if Linda packs me that damn tuna casserole again.."
37:59 that is exactly the face i would make to when seeing that dime piece
I used to call those road block things at 13:03 hamburgers as a kid..
Relaxing. Thanks.
A masterpiece love to revisit this video when I am feeling nostalgic.
What a banger this game was
The game's awesome !
Che ricordi unici 😍
One of the best game ost’s❤
I've never had an SNES. I thought the NES version was standalone!
The music rocks. I miss the '90s 😊
Que nivel musical la conxatumadre!!!!
Juegazo!!! Tremendos tracks 🇨🇱🎶🎶🎶🇨🇱 rareware
You’re legendary to be able to beat this game in one credit. This game is awesome but it’s unforgiving. Like the nes and snes game battletoads
On the space level, you can hold down a button, the shoot button I think, but maybe a different one, but it gives you a reticle for locking on and firing homing missiles. Use them for the UFO's up until the grey one to kill them easier.
I was on launch date for the NES make at my Toys R Us NC. Much as I liked the SNES title, I would to continue on with the 8-Bit version after loving Battletoads on the NES two years earlier.
I rember playing this and never beat that spaceship, sweet old times :')
Ong this was one of the first games ive ever played an for years i had this game in my memory an i could never figure out the name BUT I FINALLY FOUND IT
Amazing soundtrack
Best theme song for any video game
I played this game on ZSNES emulator on my PC maybe 10 years back.
I'll be Chompin 'n stompin ya'
Nostalgia on 💯...classic game
Lol the thumbnail is PERFECT LOL.
I love this game, everything is good, fun, it's beautiful, the music is superb, it's fun with two players. It's just a little too difficult.
The punch sounds were funny XD
Still know these songs and I’m almost 40. Hadn’t played this since I was 11.
Man this game is a gem, WHOS WITH ME?!!!
The original version of this game is the NES version, which was released a half year before the other versions. The second version is the Sega Genesis (MD, literally “Mega Drive”) version. The third version is this version, the SNES version. The last version is the Gameboy (GB) version, the only version that prohibits multiplayer.
Based on my experience, as far as difficulty is concerned, the Gameboy version is for novices, as it basically allows the player to land easily preemptive attacks. The NES and MD versions are for casuals. The SNES version (this version) is for experts (or hardcore gamers).
If you face two flying ‘Bots, in the GB, NES, and MD versions, one stands idle while you shake down the other, but in the SNES version, one ‘Bot will shoot while you try to take out the other. When you’re clinging to the bottom in the first stage, in the SNES version, those aliens will stomp you. In the other versions, they don’t bother to attack you. When you attack a buried enemy, you have less range in the SNES version than in other versions.
can i use your gameplay as the background of my video? I leave your channel in the description.
I think developer Software Creations provided technical assistance for both Battlemaniacs and the SNES version of Battletoads/Double Dragon.
