There are probably too many sound tests in this video so please check the time stamps below to quickly pin point the section you are most interested in.
If you watched my previous video, you know I recently got and built the Neo65 and I am still so impressed by it! So I was very excited when QK reached out and ask if I wanted to look at the Neo80! I was upset that yellow was not in the line up but I chose champagne in the end since it looks the most unique to me!
Champagne colourway
The colour in real life looks like a very warm gold, almost has a tinge of pink in certain lighting. In this video, I also tried to mount various keysets to showcase how the champagne colourway looks with different keysets to give you a better idea. I will be posting more pictures of the champagne Neo80 with different keysets on my IG!
Mounting style
You are also welcome to combine mounting styles but I did not show them in this video. Different mounting styles definitely affect the sound and feel of the board. So feel free to experiment different combinations of mounting styles.
Sound
Same as Neo65, I am also very impressed by how the Neo80 sounds! I'm a very big fan of high pitched typing sounds and let me tell you that this board clacks! CF plate, no foam, with the gasket dumbbell or sandwich mount is my personal favourite build. If you prefer a deeper and fuller sounding board, I would probably suggest a PC plate with an o-ring mount and all foams.
Ball catch system and magnetic connectors
It is so much easier to assemble and disassemble the board now with the ball catch system! The screwless design makes everything so much easier. Speaking of easy, cables are also not needed to connect the PCB to daughterboard! The magnetic connectors are a godsend!
Price
Starts at 110USD plateless and 130USD with a plate

Wow! My first time seeing 22 sound tests in one video 😳
Amazing work - I really enjoyed it!
Thank you for so much effort changing around the sound
This is an amazing video! Best one ive come across when trying to find sound tests. Well done
Thank you for taking the time to do this! Now I am VERY interested in this board!!! :)
bookmarking this for when i get mine! thank you for putting in the work with so much effort
Wow , I love the sound of the space bar🤩
I love how you used multiple keysets as well, would have never guessed that GMK British Racing Green and Thai Tea would work so well on champagne!
Amazing test video. Thanks for putting in the effort and the time. The HMX switches are pretty sweet.
you work so hard on the content you put out ‼️ you deserve more attention ‼️‼️
glad to see those strong spacebar in budget keyboard area!!!
So many configs and sound tests, very helpful ❤ ! Loving the O-ring + no foam config. Might pair it with Sarokeys BCP and see how it goes soon
The champagne color with the dusk weight is so nice, I got the same config except with the wired PCB. I can't wait for mine to arrive!
Obscuras config kinda nice!!
Great video, this is what I was looking for, finally
The effort to make this video 🔥🔥🔥
What a great video! Thanks!
Very nice one thanks
Hope we will see Neo60 soon 😅
Sound tests are very helpful.
I like no foam config.
God this board has a tasty space bar (Thai tea also looks fire on champagne, you just convinced me to go with this color lol)
Hey! This video was a ton of help on building, mounting options and aesthetic ideas :)
Thanks so much for posting this
I also got champagne ano, and went with a gmk white on black set.
You crushed this video with the cinematography as well. All the best
-PAPA
PS
Im upset the civilizations are sold out lol those are so crispy on this colorway.
Appreciate the kind words🙏 hope you’re loving your neo80
Very useful video Thanks
Nice video!!😃
Nutty keyboard
that's wild
I’m glad I went for the CF plate 😂
Thank you for the informative video! Loved the sound profile showcases, only note is this is my first legit custom build so I was lost on stabilizer assembly lol, the Owl Labs site still had a guide so its fine.
Oh congrats on your first custom build and I’m sure you’ll love the board! Yeah I didn’t film the whole process of the stabs cause the video was already too long😭 yes please refer to QK or the owlabs website or any YT vids. Pretty sure you can find a lot of vids on how to assemble the stabs!
16:27 Is my favorite!
Really nice structured. super helpful! I think my favorite from this is probably sount test 16 (o-ring, no foam).. I noticed on the external mic the spacebar sounds pretty muted without the foams, I wonder if a different plate material can fix that.
Or different switches! Different switches also change the overall sound of the board. It’s not in this vid but I really like how the obscura switches sound on the spacebar with o ring mount! Makes it super poppy!
o-ring, HMX, no foam 👍
I wonder how the melodies would sound on different plate
It was fun to watch. Very informative video.
How do you think about the champagne color?
Do you think it's hard to match keycaps?
Becasue I have a positive impression about the champagne color of Neo80 at the moment, but I still have concerns about matching keycaps comparing to the other colors.
It’s definitely not as versatile like a white or black board. But it’s also not as bad as it seems. I paired a few keyset with my Neo80 for the sound tests if you have not watch the whole video yet. So you can get some idea
Amazing Video! I just have one question, would you prefer the neo80 over keyboards like the zoom tkl or qk80?
Unfortunately I don’t have the zoom tkl nor the qk80 so I can’t answer your question😕
What do you think would be the best foam configuration for a clacky/marbly build? Somewhere in between. IXPE sheet only? PE sheet and PCB foam, but no case foam? Or just no foams at all.
I would probably go for with either only PE foam or only plate foam! I still prefer no foam but it’s your preference honestly!
@@key_rist Will give it a try! Have you noticed any loosening of the ball catch throughout your tests?
Not at all!
Man I almost got this but went kbd8xmk3, do u think theyre simelar or do u have a pref? if u tried the other haha
Yeah unfortunately I don’t own the kbd8x☹️
Are the obscuras scratchy? Some people have said they are pretty scratchy and others have said that they are buttery smooth. Also , do you think this board would sound worse with dyesub pbt keycaps such as the Nicepbt Thai tea?
I don’t think the obscuras feel scratchy at all! Okay they’re not as smooth as the HMX switches but not scratchy like the mx blacks or nk creams, hope that gives you a better idea. I think the board sounds great with PBT! I included a sound test in the video with Osume keycaps which are also PBT dye sub!
@@key_ristthanks so much! Hope your channel grows a lot!
sup, what external microphone are you using?
Fifine t669
Neo alway no foam, sound so way better
isn't it required to put a standsoff when using a sandwich mount?
It’s only required for o ring mount. Optional for other mounts
People alr getting neo80s when i got another 2 to 3 wait for my neo70😭😭😭😭.
Great board tho
Can you tell me how the anode quality of this keyboard is?
The quality is amazing. Feels very smooth and no scratch or dents on my unit
@@key_rist Do you think there are any competitors for this keyboard in its price range?
@@truongvuonghuy6760maybe when the cycle 8 comes out, but for now, no other budget tkl competition.
can this be tape modded?
It’s possible but I don’t think this board would benefit from tape modding. It already sounds good without any mods
neo80 is a clacky board am i right? even though you go for all foam but it still sounds clacky
That’s also because I used an FR4/CF plate paired with high pitched switches since that’s my go-to build. If you build it with a pc plate with o-ring, it’ll most prob produce a deeper and fuller sound than my build. You should consider checking sound tests from other reviewers who are building theirs with a pc plate!
I hate most of the time , using foam
