On "My Car Story" we're at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis WI on 2-20-20 at the World of Wheels car show.
We're looking at a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS SS in Black Paint. The car is equipped with a 350 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Gerry Bailey. Gerry’s had this car since 2008. Gerry shares his wife wanted to name this car. He said, ‘What do you think the name for the car should be?” She said the “Midnight Special”. He said, “That’s a great name because it’s black.” She said, “No, it’s because for 8 months restoring it, you were up until midnight working on it.”

Fantastic! This Camaro is perfect in every way. All those late nights definitely paid off. You can definitely tell this was a labor of love. Thanks for finding & sharing Gerry & Mitzi's "Midnight Special" with us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, High praise :-) You're welcome, Lou
This machine is Royalty among classic Camaros! I love the mystique added by the hidden headlights. The interior just as impressive as the exterior - and I'm floored!
Hi ImTheDaveman, Showroom new to share with you. Now get up off the floor and enjoy this video again :-) Lou
A fantastic restoration! I bought a 1967 Camaro in 1969 for $1,400. It was white over red with a black bumblebee stripe and had a 327 and powerglide. That powerglide was the reason I got rid of it, and I bought a new 1971 Camaro 350 4-speed that stickered at $3,500 back then. Car prices sure have changed! This featured Camaro is the way we dreamed a car should be, but most were not that highly optioned back then. This one is just the PERFECT 1967 Camaro. Another great car story, Lou. Thanks so much!
Hi Fred and Debra MacDonald, "PERFECT" = Winner :-) You're welcome, Lou
Nicest, best restored ‘67 SS/RS 350 I’ve seen. Also, I never knew about that Screwdriver with the Spare, (tire) the rear seat Armrest option, Redlines Only and often wondered if ‘67 was the first year for the 350 as there was this local L-79 ‘67 Chevelle that guys thought had to be a 327, but quietly blew the doors off of local “Fomoco/Mopar Heroes”. Thanks for speaking with these owners, listening to all of the little details Lou.
Hi Richard, High praise for this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, you're welcome, and glad to read you enjoy the little details too, Lou
The Chevy 350 made its debut in the 1967 Camaro SS and no other car. The L- 79 was a 327 offered in Nova and Chevelle and Corvette.
One of the most beautiful 1st generation Camaros I've ever seen period.
High praise :-) Hope you see many more cars on this CZcams Channel you enjoy Bill, Lou
Gotta say this baby is PERFECT!!
Agreed :-)
I’ve seen a lot of ‘67 Camaro’s growing up Detroit but this is a beauty nonetheless. Wow!
Looks showroom new to share with you :-)
Very nice 67 RS/SS 350 Camaro with rare 3 speed trans. Color combo is the ultimate - Black with a Red office. Thanks for sharing Lou.

Thank you, Lou.
Hi Guillermo, Happy to read you enjoy this "pristine" Camaro :-) You're welcome, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, Greetings from Australia.
Hi Thomas, High praise :-) Cheers, Lou
I had a white 67 SS hardtop with deluxe interior pkg, gauge pkg, 350 engine, powerglide tranny etc. It cost $1750.00 in 1971, and man, what I wouldn't give to have it back! Where did time go?

Hi Doug B, Happy to read you "love Camaros!!!!" :-) You're welcome, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Nice car and restoration. Unusual to see a three speed SS 350 car, most were PG or 4spd cars. I have owned a 1967 RS/SS350 conv. bolero red Camaro since 1988. I did a frame many years back when parts were difficult to find. My Mother ordered a 1969 RS Camaro conv new when I was a teen. I have been around these cars since they were new. They are beautiful as this one is. If you look at the bottom left corner of the cowl tag, 4P denotes a true SS350 car. Thanks Lou.
Hi Skinner Hound, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Glad to read you had a 1967 RS/SS too. You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful 67 SS RS Camaro, about as perfect as it gets, 3 speed on the floor you don't see many of those. Thanks Lou...
Hi Newton, Happy to read you enjoy this "showroom new" Camaro :-) You're welcome, Lou
Truly a beautiful car!!!
Hi Robert, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Black with red interior is the coolest combo then and now like with the C8 Vette.
Hi Mike, Thanks for sharing you enjoy this color combo :-) Lou
Now that is a right proper beast. Love it. A real icon. I would dearly love to get one of these. Nice work Gerry & Misty. Terrific post Lou. I needed that! ha ha
Hi D Wnright, "Now that is a right proper beast." AWESOME :-) Thank you for the encouraging words on this post, Lou
With a Closed vent PCV system, ( usually California only), I expected to see a smog pump as my original '67 SS cars had one. Interesting 3 speed car, and Strikingly Perfect!
Hi Formula Firebird, Happy to read you had a 67 SS too :-) Glad to read you consider this car "Strikingly Perfect!" Lou
Beautiful car!! Great job as always Lou!
Hi HoaxWhoreHunter, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Appreciate the kind words on this episode, and glad you enjoy it, Lou
I have seen alot of first generation Camaros but this is by far the nicest. I couldn't help but notice the shift knob had a 3 speed manual pattern on it. First SS Camaro I have seen with a 3 speed manual transmission.
High praise for this 1st year Camaro :-)
One of the most beautiful cars on your channel. Thank you!
Hi motorTranz, High praise :-) You're welcome, Lou

Of course; another great film by Mr. Lou Costabile. The old Chevies are definitely my favorites, but the films are fun to watch no matter who it was that produced the car. I reckon the thumbs down for dislikes will be from the Tree Huggers and Earth-Firsters!
Hi Donald, Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours. Let's focus on all the many more thumbs up of people like us who enjoy these cars. Thank you for spelling my last name right, it took my wife a month after we were married to figure that out :-) Lou
What a sweet Camaro! I prefer the original restos over the resto-mods because they're shown as they were from the factory!
Thank you Lou for sharing this fantastic car and it's cool owners.

Hi Lou! A beautiful example of a camaro! Enjoyed it!
Hi Joseph! Showroom new for you to view :-) Happy to enjoy this episode, Lou
Yeah.. I had a 67 RS/SS 350 four speed with disc brakes. First year 350... first year Camaro. first year disc brakes. Gold with a black vinyl top. We drove it for 5 years at least... one trip from the bay area California to canada. It actually got good mileage... something like 18 if you kept your foot out of it.

What a beautiful Camaro! There are so many ‘finishing touches’ on this like you said with the rear spoiler; redline tires, bumblebee front stripe, rally wheels, etc. And this is the perfect color combo as well. Thanks Lou for a great spring morning treat!
Hi Rusty, Happy to start your Spring day off right with a "beautiful Camaro!" :-) You're welcome, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
I love the rear spoiler, too, but that wasn't a factory option in 1967. So, for an otherwise correct car, that is incorrect ... and this comes from a guy who has an otherwise #s matching Camaro that has a trunk lid with the rear spoiler (and the original trunk lid was tossed into a landfill back in the 1980s). Ugh.
I wasn't sure in the video if this car had disc brakes. In 1967, SS 350 had some of the cheapest, crappiest looking wheels of all time ... rally wheels were only available with the rare disc brake upgrade. Again, my car wears rally wheels, but they're not correct on my car.
Things like the chrome outlines of the pedals at 6:09 are also nice touches that were not original to this car. Those would have been part of the interior decor group, which would be indicated by 3S on the cowl tag. This car doesn't have factory air, but the heater controls at 6:39 are for a car with factory air. The seatbelts are the deluxe style, but incorrect to this car ... you'd see a 5Y on the cowl tag.
Finally, the cowl tag shows either 03C or 05C ... can't be sure which. Either way, that means that this car was built during the 3rd week of either March or May of 1967. By that time, the 396 option had come out and the SS-350 badging was no longer being used. So, the grille at 1:40, for example, should just have an SS badge in it ... that's how it would have come from the factory. Only early SS 350 cars had the SS 350 badging. Once the 396s came out mid-year, then they all just got generic SS badging (and there never was any SS 396 specific badging on the Camaro).
I love this car, but it's a shame that they didn't do enough to make it factory correct. In my mind, you do either one of two things with these cars: you go custom (build the car you want to build) or you stay true to what the car originally was. In this case, they seemed to do the latter, but then strayed by adding some cool factory options that were never part of this particular car.
Wow. That is a brilliant looking car!! My mother got a 68 RS conv when it was about 2 years old. Always liked the hardtops better and the RS option really made these cars. I only wish we could have kept hers. The interior is really special. I have never seen that option before. I always wanted to change her light covers to electric. They went vacuum in 68. Shame on them. The name is perfect.
Hi Monty, High praise for this car :-) Happy to read this brings back memories of your Mothers car, nice! Lou
Simply Outstanding!
High praise :-)
That is just the ultimate Camaro, thanks Lou!
Hi Clark Griswold, High praise for this Camaro :-) You're welcome, Lou
Probably looks better than it did when it left the Chevrolet Factory!!
I think you're right :-)
That is the ultimate 67 SS Camaro . Not as much HP as a big block but , better balance for open road driving and a 4 spd . . Awesome .
Hi Bud, High praise for this car :-) Lou

So sweet
:-)
I almost bought that identical car back in '72, but chose the '70 Roadrunner instead and the rest is history. That is an incredible car with an incredible restoration. What I notice and admire the most over my 50 yrs in the hobby is how guys like Jerry closes his doors, hood, and trunk lid with some care, not as a chore. It's called 'pride of ownership'. Take note all you door slammers out there ! Trash what you own or cherish it, it is a choice. Thanks for the great tour as always Lou.
Hi Steve C, Happy to read you enjoy the "pride in ownership" with this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Interesting trivia: In 1967 GM's US market share was 48.9%...
I think that is more than trivia.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
How the mighty fall.
Wow what a beautiful unit Lou! What a awesome owner too! I loved the unit and the owner very much! So clean you could eat off of that car on the underside too! Love the original restoration to the factory specs. Sounded and awesome too Lou! Thanks for sharing Lou!
Hi Steve, Appreciate a "Wow" from you :-) You're right, this one looks showroom new. You're welcome, Lou
Boy Lou you did a great job filming this one. The underside views were perfect. What an iconic vehicle, the first 350, how many millions since then? The RS & SS combination is perfect. The standard 3 speed is very interesting. I always like a 3 speed. Thanks for filming this one.

Resonators under the car then the transverse muffler. The resonators changed the exhaust frequency a little to eliminate drone, the muffler controlled the actual volume. It was a nice easy to live with system that still sounded good.
I’m lucky enough to own a real 69 RS/SS
If you have ever seen the 80’s classic movie Better Off Dead, you will love this 67!

As always great job Lou. Beautiful Camaro. The 3 speed (2B on the trim tag) in a SS is quite rare. It should be noted that spoilers were not available until 68.
Hi Amtracs68, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing your knowledge, Lou
Thanks to you ,Lou & the owner of this gorgeous 67 RS/SS ! Best example of these I've ever seen ! Too bad they don't make em' like that anymore ! Sounds like a solid lifter engine maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong. Keep bringing the great classics to us Lou !
Hi Kevin, High Praise :-) Not sure on the solid lifters. Hoping a Chevy Expert can share knowledge. Thank you for viewing, sharing, and I'll happy to keep them coming, Lou
hydraulic lifters, 295hp.
Hi Lou,

Hi Louis, Happy to share this "Dealer showroom new" condition Camaro with you :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your support, Lou
That's a very cool car . Most people don't realize that in 67 Camaro was the only Chevy to come with the 350 option . I buy and sell a lot of vintage Chevy muscle car engines an parts . Several years ago I managed to find a 67 350 . Not only was it unique to the Camaro but there are many things that are unique to that engine . That is one beautiful car , WELL DONE !
High praise for the restoration of this car :-) Happy to read your knowledge on the Camaros too.
You are 100% correct. The famed Chevy 350 engine was designed specifically for the Camaro launch. Obviously, it made its way into other platforms over the years, but its really odd that the Camraro-350 SB linkage seemed to have been forgotten over time.
Vert true, Camaro only in 67 and then for 68 they added the Nova and then for 69 the Corvette and the rest of the Chevrolet fleet.
A friend had a blue one, kustom with a DZ302 with Pete Jackson gear drive, front discs, polished stainless exhaust and kustom machined & anodized center caps for the rally wheels that are unique to any I've ever seen.

Perfect job Jerry! Hideaway headlights used to be problematic but with today's technology they could very easily be added to modern cars and would be a cool retro look.🤔

Why does the shifter ball indicate a 3 speed ? Not original shift knobs. Those are 4 speeds.
Hi Donovan, Hmmm, not sure. Maybe a Viewer with knowledge can share, Lou
The 3-speed was the standard transmission on all Camaros except Z/28. Even the mighty SS396 could be had with a 3-speed.
Can't believe so many came with 3 speeds? I thought only the 6 cyl cars had the 3 speed. mine had the 8 track tho LOL.... would rather have had the guages
