I have watched this so many times and every time, I hold my breath when the pilot in the left taps the hand on the throttle thing and pilot in the right pulls back, just like an old plane, and the intensity and focus he has is absolutely bar none. They are amazing at what they do! Thank you from one of your adoring passengers. LA
@@SummitRecords911 Lol, I'm an idiot. Sorry. I sit up all night falling into the rabbit hole of watching this stuff. I could sit at an airport for hours. Just love watching them! Hugs
A few months after Pan Am inaugurated B-747 passenger service in January 1970 I was booked on one of their early B-747 Paris to New York flights. I marveled at the size of the thing and remember to this day the sweet sound of those P&W JT9Ds out on the wings singing their happy tune at takeoff power. All these years later I still look up when one flies overhead or takes off from a nearby airport. Can't get enough of the B-747!
Retired as a captain on the 747. Best years of my life! 99% of our take offs were what we called "normal power" which was reduced power. That extended the life of the engine but of course we used more runway. Saved the company tons of money on maintenance costs and fuel. As I said, best years of my life and I miss it every day!
yep ..but get yourself a computer simulator ..not the same but helps and fly LSA ..certainly helps the withdrawal issues .czcams.com/video/5Miei8UHiYg/video.html
Retired on the 747-200. Best years of my aviation life. Most of our take offs were at max or near max t/o weight... We used the reduced V1 method , that some airlines used for extra safety.
I sat in 62K on the upper deck of a BA 747-400 LHR - SEA Feb. 2009. The seat faces backward and what a fascinating view when we lifted off the runway. Those Rolls Roycies sounded like a million angry wasps in a bell jar!
These pilots made it look like they're taking a Lamborghini out for a spin. So much respect for the men and Women who fly these giants. Thanks posting this video, it was almost like a ride along. Fantastic.👍👍
cherifbar - Yes she will. She’s like the Queen Elizabeth of planes. Soon they will both be gone and we will just have memories. I fly BA mostly internationally because they still fly most of the 747’s in their fleet. Glad to see Lufthansa bought some of the 747-8 planes. At least there will be a few around for another 20-25 years. Sadly though the heyday for our Queen has past. God Save The Queen!
Like .. Iwas flying a a passenger ..the flght planed 2 b on a 747.. the airline change it to 777... one lady say she is not flying if it's not 747 ... . I I told her ..I like u lady..😊
There was plenty of runway left. For 20 years I did the loadsheets on hundreds of B747's out of KATL. Many had zero underload and used more runway than that. Watching those takeoffs always made me sweat and I wasn't even in the aircraft. Nice video, thanks for posting.
As a passenger in 1992 flying Cathay Pacific 747 400, HKG (Kai Tak) to SYD. We spent 2 extra hrs on the tarmac as they tried to free a stuck cargo container. Captain came over the pa and apologised for the delay and then gave us info - we will be having a HEAVY take-off, so will need the whole length of the runway and then slowly gain altitude once past the Hong Kong islands and sure enough that is what happened - I reckon his glide path on rotation was about 15 degrees, very scary but reassured they have great pilots, the rest of the flight was uneventful.
What was the most scary - or rather the most spectacular - in Kai Tak was the IGS landing on runway 13. The first time I landed (as a passenger) I thought the right wing was going to hit the roof of Kowloon City buildings, at the steep turn just before the checherboard. I later become member of the Hong Kong Aviation Club and got the Hong Kong familiarization, I then had the privilege to spend lot of time doing holding paterns with a Cessna 172 over Kowloon Wan...
*The 747 departure/takeoff skills are impressive no doubt. But I have to say, far **_more_** imressive is CaptainBoeing's (or whomever shoots these vids) ever so rare ability on YTube aviation vids, to appropriately (and superbly) adjust the light/white balance so as to capture BOTH the intra flight deck imagery + the outside the window scenery TOGETHER* So Kudos again Cboeing and thanks for another great video. I say only partially tongue in cheek, flying a 747 is one thing - but clearly based on YTube aviation vids, capturing a video with proper light settings (as you do!) is ever so greater a skill few have!
Exceptional camerawork, I.e, no shaking or zooming like so many seen. Also liked the slight wide angle lens giving nice side and front views simultaneously. Loved the way the pilot gently and gracefully took the throttle. Thanks for this post. Guess pilot, co-pilot an expression from the past; now captain & first officer?

Incredible video, thanks for the expert photography. These guys were "on their game" is an understatement. Have flown many 747s in the past, most internationally. One memorable flight was flying Los Angeles to Hong Kong, UA Flight 1 which was headed around the world. Was a 747-400 I was flying upper deck business class. Great takeoff from LA however the coup de grâce was the approach at the old Kai Tak in Hong Kong. As many are aware, tough, tough approach at night as we were between apartment houses on the approach. What a flight and landing!
In 1999, I was on a Lufthansa 747-400 FRA/DFW. It, along with a KLM flight a year earlier AMS/IAH, were the two finest flights I have ever taken. Bar none. And I have traveled extensively. The KLM stopped in ATL and almost all pax disembarked. Change of crew as well. Between ATL and DFW, I was the only person in First Class. There were two pax in Business, and a smattering in Coach. The plane probably had very little fuel aboard. The pilot put the pedal to the metal, and that plane rolled about ten feet then shot into the air like a fighter. The acceleration was phenomenal! It felt like we were going 500mph before the end of the runway Exhilarating!
I still remember the first time I flew on a 747. It was absolutely incredible! They'd just come out and everyone was all smiles and giggles at the massive roominess inside the cabin!
