  • Today let’s learn the sliding action of the finger from 1st to 3rd position, making sure the hand is loose and not gripping the violin neck. We discover that it's just as easy to put the fingers down and play accurately in 3rd position as it is in 1st position. Mary V

    Hola Mary! Escalas con cambio de posición es algo que practico cuando empiezo a estudiar cada día...y a veces, solo a veces, consigo afinar... Sigo experimentando y ahora que te escucho entiendo lo importante que es para evitar el 4° dedo😅 Mañana haré también esos ejercicios de deslizar sobre el diapasón...y reconociendo sensaciones que se mantengan en mi memoria... Como siempre Mary, mil gracias por explicarnos con tanto detalle y ayudarnos a avanzar con nuestro querido violín! Cuídate mucho!💜🎶💜🎻

      Hello Lola!
      I got really excited to hear how well you practice every day - it's wonderful to start with scales and shifts because this is like natural medicine that heals our hands and enters us into our own violin world...
      You have a brilliant way with words, Lola. I love the way you say '...and recognizing sensations that remain in my memory.' That is so memorable and so valuable, I've tucked it away for myself!
      Another beautiful phrase of yours;
      '...our beloved violin.' Inspirational! Mary💗

    Ahhh! I thought that changes in the position in the Violin would obligatorily follow an order: first, second, third ... and I did not understand why many recommended to pass to third position. Now I understand that it is not necessarily like that. Thank you Mary! I' try

      Hello Marta! Yes, you're right, at first it doesn't seem logical to go straight to 3rd position, but it's really because from 3rd position the hand can play in all positions from 1/2 position all the way up to 6th and beyond without moving the thumb, so it's like the fundamental, universal position and changes our relationship with the fingerboard when we learn to use it with accuracy.
      There's another reason we learn 3rd position first before other positions; it's a bigger and more identifiable movement than going into 2nd position and easier to get right...
      Anyway, I hope you are having a go and most importantly, that you are enjoying your violin.
      Take care Marta! Mary💗

    I also herd that second position is harder than third position😂

      It's not harder, but it's an incredibly useful position and a lifesaver in pieces for those with a small hand; I love it and use it all the time😀Wait and see, you'll love it too...Mary💗
