- I needed to make a gift for a friend this afternoon. Using all those pink and green scraps I have in abundance I chose the Log Cabin block and I think she will love it!
And of course, that friend is Phillipa, who made the glass wish sticks for the Christmas Gift Boxes
We observed all the correct guidelines that were in place at the time. You can see that I made this cushion a while ago because I am using my old sewing machine!
The three quilters I mention in the video are Bonnie Hunter
www.quiltville.com/index.html
Bonnie has a scrap management system that is the envy of the quilting world! She also taught me all about Leaders and Enders which I vow to try someday!
Next Donna Jordon who makes really informative quilting videos here on CZcams
jordanfabrics.com
and last but by no means least, Jenny from the Missouri Star Quilt Company. We all love Jenny right?

Kate: I am a long time quilter who has become disabled to the point that even my arms hurt to move. However, watching you create and your calming voice start my day with such a positive mood. You motivate me to push through the pain and get into my fabrics and find something to sew and quilt. God bless you for being my positive motivation and allowing me to feel as if I am in your home with you being in a happy place. I love to start my day with you.
❤❤❤
💛🧡❤️
My happy place is my sewing room,I love the log cabin design ❤❤❤ happy quilting 🤗
Log Cabin quilt block represents safety, home, sanctuary... the first one I learned and my favourite block. Thank you for another lovely chat! Xx
OMG my heart feels so joyous! Just watching the video of my cushion being made. I had no idea the heart was inside - I have just found it!!!! I love , love ,love the care and skill and love that has gone into this. I have it in my glass studio, so am using it everyday. I am very, very lucky!!! Thanks Kate xxx
Hello Phillipa: I enjoyed the glass class that Kate did with you👏👏👏 I’m just sooooo excited about getting to purchase a 2020 Christmas box😀😀😀. I just find it so interesting how God blesses us with different gifts and talents. Thank you for sharing yours. It was so special to see the reaction on your face and the hug of your cushion. Until next time Gods blessings ❤️😀
Ha ha! glad you like it Phillipa! I love my fused glass - it is shining in the window as I work! Folk are receiving their boxes! and loving your glass! xxxxxxx
Omg, this is wonderful!
Arent you sweet. Any friend of Kate's must be special.
I recently found your channel, and I absolutely love it. I am pretty new to quilting, just started an EPP quilt for my bed and like you I absolutely love the hand stitching, I find it’s so calming just like crochet and knitting, which I also do. Watching you is like being a friend in your house and it’s so wonderful, thank you for making the Internet a lovely warm, cozy home.
I use old sewing machines they work better than new ones and forever My treadle is as old as me 1948 :-)
Log Cabin is my favorite of all,the quilts blocks!!💜💜💜
So happy to sit and sew with you today! It is exactly what I needed. Missing my sewing friends
What a precious gift to your friend & the lovely heart ❤️ inside. She will treasure it I’m sure
Thank you for making it look so easy mark of a good seamstress 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I have a feeling Norma knows ALL there is to know about quilting! ☺️🤓little snoopervisor. 💕
Oh Kate! That was lovely, I so enjoyed watching you do this. Hi to everyone on the green sofa!
Beauty is in the eye of the holder and I am beholding your gorgeous cushion! Love green and pink also.
I wish I could like this a thousand times! Beautiful work. I think I’ll add this to my to do list.
Love pink and green and pink and brown
What a lovely cushion cover Kate your friend will be pleased
I put secret hearts in my baby quilts for charity. Everyone needs a little love.
This is NO disrespect to our transatlantic quilting u tubers (love Jenny Doan et al to bits) but it's so nice to hear an English accent on-line, especially a Northern one. I've just discovered your channel and I am in love with it already. Your easy going style suits me fine, as I'm a bit of a 'gonzo quilter' with an aversion to precision work - though I am quite fussy about the end result. Only problem - I've spent an entire afternoon drooling over your tutorials. But time well spent! You've given me the boost I need for the next few projects.
Hi Kate. l love sewing videos. It doesn't have to be tutorial to learn some things watching this.😉 Hi Anna. 👋 thanks for sharing this video on my birthday 🎂 🥳🥳 xxxx
Happy Birthday! From one Sandra to another.
@@sandeebodza265 Thank you name sake. 😉❤🥳🥳🥳
Hey there, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you 🎂💐
❤️😀
@@rachelburgener819 Thank you Rachel! ❤🥳🥳
My friend and I took a road trip and visited Jordan’s Fabrics in Grants Pass Oregon and other quilt shops along the way. Jordan’s shop is a really nice place. Tons of fabric and customer service is the best.
@Sew Many Things Quilt Shop Visits are a favorite hobby of mine. Home is Longview WA. Jordan’s was our destination but we stopped in Albany and Corvallis and Jefferson to name a few. Also Sew Cute Quilting in Dillard. And a must stop is Rice Hill for ice cream. COVID is causing closures and schedule changes. But this won’t last forever. Happy quilting to you!
I'm in Washington state. Thank you for your trip story. I didn't realize Jordan was so near. Sounds so fun!! I wish I had a friend that was interested in quilting /sewing! 🥰 Happy Quilting❣
This would have to be the best log cabin and bonus cushion cover demonstration I have ever watched .....and honestly ...I am on the extended age level so I have seen a lot lol ....
sitting on the lime green Sofa chatting with others having a coffee and forgetting about the dramas of the world 🌍👍😷🇦🇺
“Extended Age Level”, oh, that’s a perfect term for me!
@@auntmayme8119 Same! I love it.
What a great tutorial, Kate
Thank you.😊
You are so welcome! xxx
Feel like I am visiting with my friend! thank for being so warm and natural in this crazy world 🌎
It’s beautiful, Kate! I love pinks and greens together as well. It’s just like a garden!
Really enjoyed tutorials on Log Cabin for a cushion! Fun and learned what to do after you fold the cushion over the sides! Thanks again, Kate! Love those colors too! - Sandi Myer from Florida for now😂
Norma came by for helping with the design elements. Her advice is invaluable.
Love my vintage machines, no computers to go fooy. I have a 1957 singer slant 501a that my mother bought new for $300ish. It runs like a charm and will go through any weight. I use it all the time and it always brings back memories of my mom. When I was too young to use the power pedal my dad (an engineer) rigged up a crank for me made of coat hanger wire and a big spool.
Kate you have just showed me how to make a quick and easy cushion,God bless you ❤ thankyou for sharing your videos, greetings from Australia 🌏🦘 Adelaide South Australia
Kate, I'm not even a quilter (dressmaking and knitting are my things), but I find your videos so calming. Thank you for being here in these strange times x
WOW! This video could not have shown up at a better time. I'm about to make cushions for my granddaughter using fabric from a few of her mother's shirts (her mother passed away a month ago). This "non"tutorial tutorial is absolutely perfect to help me with the making. Thank you.
I have been quilting for 50 years. Made many log cabins. Never heard that rule of add next strip to the “3” side. Amazing. Never too old to learn. No more mistakes and ripping for me. ❤️
I enjoy visiting you from across the pond. No matter where we are around it world, we can meet and have a conversation because we all understand the love for quilting and are familiar with Donna, Jenny, and Bonnie. I love this projects where you gather what you have and create something lovely. I'm busy making for Christmas. Wonderful.
Wow! you made that look much easier than I imagined it was to do. How fab! Now I can do the same for a Christmas present! Thank you so much Kate and a Very Happy Christmas, stay safe! 💚🇮🇪☘️
Fantastic way to use scraps up 👍🏻
You are absolutely amazing!!! Just love how that cushion turned out. Phillipa will have to bring it when she visits the LGS so we can all admire it. Loves to all!!
I'm in a hot cocoa and snuggle under a quilt on the LGS kinda mood today, LGS Mates! *passes around the cocoa and marshmallows!*. Kate, this is absolutely gorgeous! I love the log cabin blocks. I've been making scrappy log cabin blocks for bowl cozies recently, I super duper dig them! And the heart on the inside of the cushion is amazing. I also love that we can see bits and bobs from other quilts you've made on the channel, and the piece from John and Anna's quilt is precious! An absolutely gorgeous cushion cover, thanks for sharing with us.
She’s cooooozzzzzzyyy on the LGS ❤️😀
Beautiful work. How lovely that you put a secret heart on the inside for your friend! I’m sure she will treasure this unique, hand-made gift. Thank you also for sharing the helpful tips on making a log cabin pattern - much appreciated! Greetings from Melbourne, Australia.
Aw Kate that was lovely to watch, and the small heart is such a sweet thought.I am sure Anna will love and treasure it.xxx
Absolutely beautiful. Watching you craft is so relaxing. Thank you so much for giving my busy mind a rest.😘
Love what you showed the log cabin with scraps, from beginning to end. The sewing and quilting was best and great with a cushion to beginning. Thanks, Kate!
This is a beautiful creation Kate, I've watched this twice now, very inspiring x
Oh my gosh, I love Bonnie Hunter! She did a presentation at our quilt guild and she was a hoot! I’ve made several of her quilts and downloaded her patterns from her website. She has a log cabin block called Crayon Box that uses lots of bright colors. I too use the Go Fast Foot, aka Quarter Inch foot. Mostly because it lets me go fast; I don’t have to look at the line on my machine.
Oh my goodness! Your Inside Love. How precious! I can see the smile on the person’s face if for some reason this is taken apart, and he/she sees the heart. Bless you!
That is the best cushion ever
You are just the best .... I've so enjoyed watching you do this and it's beautiful . Thank you for your friendship .... Because that's what it feels like 💚💖💚💖💚💖
There'll be a heart felt connection when Phillipa watches this and sees the something extra on the inside
.
Haha...Bad goose. I had to back it up & watch that bit twice LOL.
I thought you were talking about me for a minute!... Eileen the 'mad goose!'
Thanks for the tip about the most ends+adding the new piece!!! Yay!! Makes so much sense.
Kate,
Thank you for being patient & sharing your skills & sweet conversations with us! Blessings to you & your family.
You are such a love, you make my “little bit of heart” sing. I was never lucky enough to have a grandmother as both my grammas were gone by the time I was born. I would so have loved for a Gramma just like you.
❤
One of my absolute favorite projects
Lovely use of those scraps and the inside heart is gorgeous! Lucky recipient!
Thankyou so much Kate....loved stepping through that with you!
This is beautiful and I love the secret heart on the inside. The way you finish the edge on the back is brilliant! Thank you.
“Lil bit of love inside”....bless my heart! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💝
Donna Jordan is a great teacher. I watch her a lot😘
Tutorial make no Angels out of paper
I have watched hundreds of sewing /craft videos but since watching this one I’m just going to say WOW I’ll certainly be watching all yours first before I watch any others so down to earth and easy simple sewing but with amazing results
That is so pretty. And while you may not think that it was a "tutorial video". You taught me a boatload about how to make a log cabin square and to make a pillow cover. Thank you so much.
Ms. Phillipa is a lucky lady! I'm sure she will treasure this lovely pillow! 😊
@@susanfryer1616 Hi Susan! My name is Ann Kathy, Kate may miss your comment. You entered it under my comment and, it came to me. You might want to go back and re-enter it in the Comments field so that she will be sure to see it! 🏵 😊
Ann Kathy oh silly me thanks for that
Another lovely video, thankyou Kate. Coincidentally I made a log cabin block today in Christmas fabric as part of a table runner. I love your approach to creativity and for not caring about the quilt police! I agree with Jenny, if anybody looks inside your quilt and criticises your seams “they’re not your friend!”. 😂
Lovely! So sweet of you that tiny secret heart!
Oh how happy I am to have learned the tip about where to sew the next strip. Oh I got so tangled up !!! You are always sew fun and so smart.
Putting the heart in is the most wonderful RAK I've ever witnessed.
Lovely video🙂😍🙂
I wasn’t sure about all your greens and pinks for this Log Cabin pillow cover but it’s so cool! I love how it turned out. And I like how the front and back are all one piece. Great job!!
Beautiful Kate
Thank you again for a lovely sewing / chat session
Cheers 💐
I love your videos. I even comment verbally while watching 😂. You have many wonderfully colored scraps.
I’m enjoying your videos! It’s a binge watching day for me ❤
I love how you approach sewing. So matter of fact. Thank you so very much.
From Spain, I am Julia and I live in Alicante, I think it is beautiful! your job ... and the cat too. a greeting and I will continue to see your colorful times.
The helping cat! 😍😍😍
Very nice Kate, I like how you put love into all you do! Thanks for all your sharing. I enjoy my spot on the lime green sofa during our visits. Thank you for all your love and friendship you give to all of us. Enjoy your day 😘
Kate, KATE, KATE, I got my Christmas box in the USA, I'm soooooo happy! It's sooo spectacular! Love, Love, LOVE IT!
🥰
Kate, you truly invite us into your happy place and share your wonderful way of playing with fabric. So comforting; thank you!
aww I love this kind of video I have about a pound of little scraps my gma gave me still finding new ways to use them.
You have made something beautiful out of scraps 💜
Your friend will love it! 😊🌸🍀
What a beautiful cushion. Thank you so much Kate for sharing this with us. You might not call it a tutorial but it certainly is to me because it is so easy to follow.
Love Norma helping you out🥰 You are very relaxing to listen to, and I enjoyed the (not) tutorial and the secret heart. You are so thoughtful! Thanks☺️
Anna s very sweet and so is Norma . I love you like a big sister . Thank you for making a fabulous vlog channel ! X
So glad I found your channel. It has been an uplifting experience watching the log cabin 'being built'. I started sewing a log cabin cushion the other day, the first one for over 25 years 😀 what a satisfying patchwork method it is.
Thank you for sharing your skills and enthusiasm. Maggie
Hi Kate, I watch you tube on my Roku and you came up on the playlist. I am not a quilter, but the name of your videos intrigued me. So I am now binge watching your videos! I enjoy your talking as much as your sewing. I had never heard of the place you liveand you probably haven't heard of mine. I live in Elizabethton, Tennessee in the USA. I had to recently retire due to illness. I was a registered nurse for 34 years I don't sleep much so I watch videos and I look forward to seeing you each week, Thank you for your videos!
I’ve watched this a couple of times. So pretty.
Kate your attention to detail is extraordinary ! ! The little heart inside is just so very sweet, "she won't know it's there but I will" ! ! That just warmed my heart ! ! I just loved how Phillipa hugged it when you gave it to her. I am sure she will treasure it always ! ! ((hugs))
i dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Moses Soren Instablaster =)
So thankful that I have found you on CZcams 💐
This is one of my favorite videos! It's beautiful and made with so much love and care. I've watched it over and over. It's so relaxing for mr. I'll finally made one today...for my lovely friend. 💞🦋
I'd be pleased with it too Kate, you have made a beautiful project from your scraps and, imagine if someone finds the hidden heart, wow!!

Love this!!! I'm going in my Studio right now and making these for Christmas gifts!!! Thank you! You are a joy to warch!💕
Love it. Pink and green are such great contrast plus complementary. Thanks for video
I finished my first quilt thanks to this fabulous idea! I wish to thank you dearly ❤️👍🙂
Lovely, aww tearing up seeing Norma.
What a fun exercise in using fabric scraps!❤
Thank you Kate for the log cabin cushion. You make things seem so easy. As you say I must not over think. God bless xxx
Hand made thank you gifts are the best. Very personal and made with love.
I like watching her. She is down to earth and not overly professorial about her instructions. She makes me want to do what she is showing. One suggestion - Aim your camera down lower to see the actual action as it is happening.
You make me calm. I enjoy your time so much. Thank you
Lovely. Such a pleasure to follow along with you on your journey making the pillow, while I sew at home :)
I love watching your podcast. Your voice is so calm and soothing, and your tips and tricks help this “quilter wannabe” feel more confident😊 Just what I needed to watch on this New Years Day.
So pretty! So glad my sister told me about you. ❤
Loved this video too. What a beautiful gift for your friend. Love the little heart. ❤️
Lovely cushion and pink and green is my favorite combination as well.
I accidentally came across your sewing and love all the beautiful colours of your cushions.
Cushion cover came out so pretty! Thanks for sharing!
I was going thru a rough patch and sat on the lime green couch with a cup and had a moment. Thanks for sharing the couch. The lady next to me shared her cookies. What a wonderful place to have.
You are so welcome! there is always a lovely welcome (virtually) on the Sofa! xxx
Wonderful.
