Sooooooooo beautiful!! Go Bee Gees! You've earned the right. Tremendous!
They idolised The Beatles and were younger than them, just teens when the Gibbs returned to the UK. Mo learned ALL of McCartney's bass lines. They were writing and singing 3 part harmony in Australia before The Beatles were heard of there but when The Beatles came out they were accused of copying them! The Bee Gees returned home to the UK to get in on the British Invasion started by The Beatles. The Beatles company NEMS gave The Bee Gees to Robert Stigwood, Brian Epstein The Beatles manager's assistant. The groups became friends and were actually labelled as their successors. In 1968 at a concert at the Savoy in London the mob pushed past Paul McCartney to get at The Bee Gees. Paul said "We had our time, now it's their turn". Not many people now realise how huge both bands were. The Gibbs definitely had better voices plus Robin's inimitable vibrato, especially in the song "This Boy". The Beatles were ground breakers but don't have many videos. That was before the video era. They also didn't have the equipment later bands had and retired in part because they couldn't perform songs they wrote with the limited technology available to them in the early 60's.
This is an amazing showcase for their vocals, particularly Robin on This Boy.
Mo is often acknowledged, rightfully so, for his ability to harmonize, but in this video, my ear is drawn to Barry’s harmonizing, and the support his voice is offering to Robin’s lovely leads.
Everybody on the Midnight Special had to perform LIVE or they didn't get on. You HAD to be good. The show had all genres of music and put very different acts together sometimes like The Bees Gees with Chuck Berry! Mama Cass Elliot with John Denver. Robin knocks "This Boy" out of the part. Lennon's version is also great but his voice is more raw and raspy. Saw The Beatles in the 60's. Concert tickets $5.50!!!!! Good luck paying that for a show. IMO the best Bee Gees medley of their own songs was ....Melbourne concert medley 1989. They did their own songs plus some that they wrote for other people like Dionne Warwick and Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton. Please check that one out! 🙂
I believe The Bee Gees actually sang Beatles songs way better than the Beatles could have sung Bee Gees songs. 🥰
They sang the Beatles songs so good. I love everything they do they are the best group ever. So much talent in these brothers. All the guys adored the Beatles, and spoke so well of them. Amazing.. Great reaction
Pure ear candy right there. Those were the days! Robin had such an incredible voice. All of them did. Great choice Pat
They are just fabulous. I used to just wait for the Midnight Special to come on. They had the cream of the crop.
They are underrated vocally to me. They had very good belting voices.
Obviously they can sing anything...including the phone book 🎶😁
Maurice said the between the three of them they had four separate voices. There was Barry’s voice, Robin’s voice Maurice’s voice and then there was a distinctly different fourth voice made of both Barry and Robin together. Maurice said that you could pick out Robin or Barry but you would wonder which one it was. When they wrote their songs they said that they would get into each other’s head space and could hear the same melodies. Especially since they never learned to write music and in a way I think that they did the same when performing because they were so in sync with each other. Thank you for that great reaction as always. ❤❤❤
I just love Barry’s voice and tone. ♥️ I love all parts he takes, but I really appreciate it when he goes lower. Maybe it’s the alto in me but I appreciate the lower harmonies. Love to be the one doing the harmonizing. It’s more fun than singing the melody.
Amazing medley, and their harmonies are second to none.
I could listen to them sing every Beatle song there is & Robin singing That Boy, his voice just perfect, sang that one particular section just like John. The Beatles would've been proud they did this SO good. Love both these groups.
❤Wow, they sound incredible doing these. Thank you!
I have watched this countless times since MS posted it. I love Robin singing "That Boy". They all sound amazing. Great Tribute to the Beatles.❤

Midnight Special was life! ❤
It's fabulous that you are reacting to this particular medley, showcasing more than their performance, but the trio's great, abiding respect for the Beatles and their musical contributions to the world. The Fab Four being featured by the Fab Three!
The Beatles marked an incredible breakthrough in the world of pop music. Sounds, voices, technique that wasn't there before. I loved them as a kid but the Bee Gees surpassed everyone in the beauty of their ensemble voices like no other. In this video they give solid proof of what I said. Robin is unique, his voice enchants and even after years it never ceases to amaze me. I wonder what immense gift he had in those blessed vocal cords.
I love your reviews. More Bee Gees songs to consider. Jive Talkin, Run to Me, Love You Inside and Out, More Than a Woman, Wind of Change, Tomorrow Tomorrow, Alone, Secret Love, You Win Again, To Love Somebody (60s video), Holiday.
I close my eyes knowing these are beatles sings, but all l hear is the beautiful Bee Gees, they were amazing i was only 9 when the Beatles stormed the world, but i was there for the Bee Gees they were and still my favourite band ever ❤
There is a Medley in 1974 in Melbourne and 2001 on Live by request. ❤❤
OMG, so much to say. First of all, Yes! Robin is my favorite Bee Gee! I love the Beatles. I have their first 4 albums, which were my older sisters. However, I was a 70's child. Is it wrong that I enjoyed the Bee Gees version of the early Beatles songs more??
I liked that you called out Robin several times. He really shines in this video!
I had never seen this before .Thank You
Thx Prez! I loved this! There’s something about family harmonies that resonates differently. Beatles forever! Peace n love to all!
Andy Gibb on The Midnight Special & Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, both live performance shows in the 70s👍
I love them as well. I am a subscriber now. Great reaction
The Beatles were from Liverpool which is very close to the Isle of Man and Manchester where Bee Gees came from. Their manager Robert Stigwood was in same group as Beatles manager Brian Epstein. Could you do my grandson’s favorite Beatles song Come Together it does have a video but is animated.
👍💪💪
The press always blamed Yoko for the breakup of the Beatles. According to George Harrison, it was Paul, who became increasingly dictatorial. George stated he would work with John anytime, but never again with Paul. It would have been interesting to drop Robin into Paul’s spot for a while to see what happened. Both had the clear high tenor voices. It’s a nice dream, anyway.
Robin knocked McCartney's "O Darling" out of the park in the (awful) Sergeant Pepper movie.
I think the next songs you should consider reacting to of the BeeGees especially where Robin shines, is Bodyguard and Tokyo Nights from the One album from 1989. Also, i would do Massachusetts and I started a joke from the 1989 tour from Melbourne
Or songs where Barry shines. 😊
Disappointed you didn’t comment on the actual songs! Beatles Gold! How about now listening to the original artists singing their own compositions. If you want astonishing harmonies you won’t be disappointed. If I Fell is particularly intricate and still gives me such pleasure - it’s nearly 60 years old.
I know I've responded before I've rewatched this reaction and needed to tell you something. With exception of the beginning where Barry took the lead, Robin sang melody on all the songs. You really need to listen to more of Robin's vocals on the early stuff and you can hear him in every song
Or listen to more of Barry. 😊
@@TWarinerDefinitely more Barry, as he's the man behind the Bee Gees sound! And in the beginning, Robin didn't sing lead on all the songs.🙄
❤
Well, I'd have to say you're probably wasting your time listening to Beatles tunes sung by others...Respectfully, I suggest you listen to....The Beatles...
It’s *never* a waste of time to listen to the BeeGees.
