One thing to remember this was at the end of his concert, which he put his all into it. So much emotion watching this, as I am a huge Elvis fan. Absolutely amazed by his performance, yet saddened to know how sick he was here, and yet it didn’t stop him from an incredible show. No one will EVER come close to the reach (genres) he had and the success he had. So many people made fun of Elvis his last year, maybe year and a half due to weight gain. Elvis’ Dad spoke of his weight and said he really hadn’t put that much weight on, as he was in a size 36 pants when he died. Obviously he had gained weight, but nothing like so many say or believes. His face was very puffy, as in this performance, but you have to understand his organs were failing, and he had an extreme amount of water weight due to his body (kidneys, liver, heart, etc) not functioning properly. Elvis believed, this coming from his best friends and family, that because the pills were prescribed by a doctor that they were ok. They did not know of the extreme dangers, as we do now, back in the sixties and seventies. Elvis was also very depressed the last few years of his life, again through interviews with his friends and family. Some of this is pointed out in the new Elvis movie, which surprisingly I enjoyed. My grandchildren wanted to see it, and of course gramma had to go. Although I was apprehensive because of all I know of Elvis, and i was worried they wouldn’t do him justice. But they actually came from a different angle to the story, which any real Elvis fan knew, Col Parker allowed his greed and evil to over take him and he literally sucked the life right out of Elvis. Now I will say they did not show truly how generous Elvis was with his money. Yes he spent a lot, but he gave at-least half of his wealth to others; buying cars, houses, medical equipment, paying medical bills, charities, anytime he heard of someone in need especially around Memphis. Did you know he donated a huge amount to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor And also performed a concert where all the proceeds went to it. In 1961 that concert raised over $54,000. That was a huge amount of money back then. Then he donated personally on top of doing the concert. Two things in reference to Elvis being called the “King”. To one woman he responded when called the king, no there’s only one king and that’s Jesus Christ. As Elvis was a very religious/spiritual person and actually loved singing gospel music more than anything else. One other time that I know of, he was called the king of rock and roll, and he replied that he was not, that BB King was the king of rock and roll. I suggest you watch his concerts and interviews from family and friends, there’s plenty of actual Elvis footage just on you tube. If you do I promise you, you will understand why your gramma was a huge fan and you too will be in awe of Elvis. Elvis was not only a great singer anointed by God, a great performer, he was an incredible human being with a huge heart. My Dad was a WWII and Korean Veteran, who did not really get into being a “fan” per say of too many people. He liked music, but was never per say a fan, maybe because he grew up in the Great Depression. However, he was a big fan of Elvis. My Dad had much respect for Elvis and liked his country and gospel music. He even grew to like his rock music as time went on. Check out Elvis singing the American Trilogy live, Gosh so many; Suspicious Minds, In The Ghetto, How Great Thou Art, Polk Salad Annie, The Wonder of You, Always on My Mind, My Way, You Gave Me a Mountain, Trouble, Can’t Help Falling in Love With You. I would suggest watching these live. As Elvis’ is an over all package and his charisma, light, energy, personality, good looks, and his singing combined together is truly and incredible package few can come close too. And he only comes second to the Beatles in record sales. And that may be because he never toured in other countries, only the USA , or maybe because he took 2 years off when he was drafted into the Army. Not to mention Elvis was inducted into the: ROCK, COUNTRY, GOSPEL, R & B, CHRISTIAN, POP, ROCKABILLY, AND HONKY TONK HALL OF FAMES! Let’s see any other artist accomplish this. However he was not in the Songwriters Hall of Fame because he didn’t write songs. He was actually entered into 23 Hall Of Fames. I just listed the genres in music hall of fames he was in.

Omg Old concerts of him of course 😅 and I remember I’d look over at her, and she’d be sobbing 🙄 (my mother) I never understand why in the world she’d be crying over this man?!! LMABO
Now that I’m a FULL fledged ELVIS PRESLEY FAN! I completely understand my mother’s obsession with The King 👑 of Rock N Roll!
I also just wanted to say sorry about your friend, I recently lost a very close friend of 25 years. I am still devastated it was June 28th of this year.
It was a Great movie so if he recommended it?! Then?? But I saw it…. And it was a pretty good! Even if you know little about the King! 😉😘

Your grandmother was a lucky lady. Any Elvis song is great, but "I have a Dream" is the best.

Love your reaction. Elvis knew his appearance was not what it was earlier in his career. He didn't want it filmed but his manager got the last word. It was all about money. Yes, to those true fans it was hard to watch this performance. I cried through the whole concert because when it aired on TV, he had already died.

That bastard Colonel Parker kept pushing him and I don’t know what happened to Parker after Elvis‘s death but he will be paying in hell. Most people know what it’s like to be self-conscious about your weight and Elvis was after this weight gain, plus in very very bad health, not just from weight gain but heredity issues (his mom died at 48) But because he had to pay the bills for everybody, he went out there and did this even, though he was so self-conscious about his weight. The voice is the voice is the voice and those couple little clips of him looking at his friends smiling just melts your heart and he also didn’t miss a note on that song. it’s beautiful. RIP to Elvis & your grandmother and thank you for putting this up.

His voice and his Mastery of it just got better right up until he died. If you really want to be blown away again, check out his cover of how great thou art from this same show in 1977. He also does a version in the early 70s which is great but this one as a musician, to me is so incredible. Luciano Pavarotti once said that if Elvis had had any formal vocal training, he may well have been the greatest opera singer of the 20th century. You saw that on display and this one that you reacted to and you will definitely see it on display if you watch that other number from this show.

This isn't the best first time seeing Elvis live, as he was in a lot of pain and so sick here. He never lost his voice or sense of humor tho. Try reacting to 68 Comeback Special in black leather sitting down jamming out Heartbreak Hotel, Trying to Get to You and in white suit If I Can Dream. Thanks
    Sorry for your loss. 🙏

Elvis has reached across the generations, time space and even death can never break the love people had for him and still do. The most talented person who ever walked this earth and so generous kind and caring always

Elvis had to fake his death to be put into a govt Witness Protection Program for his safety. He received a new identity and continued to sing using various alias names. Check out Pastor Bob Joyce in Benton Arkansas videos here on YT There's also videos showing Pastor Bob Joyce at Graceland. There's more proof Elvis is alive than there is that he's in a grave with his name spelled wrong. Also , check out the song "Check the Spelling on the Stone" by a mystery singer that sounds exactly like Elvis. The info's there you just need to search for it.

I think it said this was six weeks prior to his death. So hard to watch him like that, he was breathless, not singing effortlessly like usual - yet still killed it… he was ethereal❤️

When I saw this one from Ann Arbor, MI, I cried like a baby. I have this one on DVD and it was in the Elvis Movie.
I was 18 months old when he passed away. I've never heard anyone else ever sing like he did. August 16, 1977 was when he passed. He was an American Treasure!

I just came back from watching the movie and it made me cry. Austin Butler did an amazing job playing Elvis and I’m sure you will love the movie. He did of a heart attack 6 weeks after this performance from exhaustion and from drugs. What a sad but hard life with a lot of love for his fans

I was born 25 years after Elvis passed away, but of course I grew up heavily surrounded by music before my time, including Elvis
I’ve seen this movie 5 times so far, and I’ve sobbed each and every time when they play this clip at the end of the movie, my heart absolutely wrenches for him
