 Not really. Marc’s voice is naturally close in timbre to Freddie’s. Marc did land his voice to the infamous biopic. He recorded every song phrase by phrase. So, it’s only natural that such an astute ear as his can reproduce what he recorded in such hi def.

      @@jaidenobrien I get that you are being contrarian, but try to use some logic here. Its hyperbolic to say Marc sounds like Freddie 99%, so I get the push back. He doesn't. But, the guy sounds like Freddie 85%-90%, and its delusional to think otherwise. Sometimes he sounds more like Freddie than Freddie did, and he performs notes that Freddie never attempted live. Freddie had phases where he sounded a bit different, especially comparing the early years to the later years. Marc is like taking an average. He sounds like a blend of Freddie through all eras of Queen.
      Have you ever seen Roger Taylor's reaction to Marc when Marc auditioned for Queen's official tribute band? He has a haunted look, as if he is hearing Freddie. Its the reason they didn't pick him over Adam. Imagine hearing your dead friend's voice every night? If Roger and Brian thinks Marc sounds eerily like Mercury, then who are you to say he doesn't? The fact that they had him do vocals for the movie Boeheim Rhapsody tells you all you need to know.
      Is Marc an exact copy of Freddie? No. Does he sound like Freddie, more so than anyone else? Yes. It's silly to deny that.

    Marc is an amazing and extremely dedicated musician. He does definitely try to sound like Freddie, it isn't all natural and "just the way he sounds naturally" like so many people like to say it is. Listen to his original performances from several years ago covering this song and he doesn't sound the same. Yes he has a similarity in his voice to Freddie Mercury, but he's obviously studied Freddie very closely. That isn't a bad thing either. I have far more admiration for someone who's married talent with dedication to achieve a sound that others can't match. Compared to someone who was just born sounding exactly like someone else. To say Marc is the later is to cheapen his talent, because real talent requires effort and dedication.

    So, Marc didn't spend an obnoxious amount of time studying Freddie, as a matter of fact, when a lot of people told him that he sounded just like Freddie, he didn't even know about Queen and who Freddie was. So him sounding like Freddie, is actually not him trying to sound like Freddie, but him just naturally sounding like Freddie. But after being told that he sounded like someone he didn't know or heard of, he did went and research Queen and is now the frontman of Queen's tribute band, Queen Extravaganza (I think that's what it's called). According to Bryan, the reason why he didn't end up as the frontman for Queen was because he sounded too much like Freddie and it was uncanny or something like that.

    • @odonovan
      @odonovan Pƙed rokem +10

      Azekel, Marc hasn't sung with Queen Extravaganza (QuEx) since late 2016(?). When they weren't going on tour in 2017, Marc started his own band. By the time Roger Taylor decided to have QuEx tour that year, it was too late. Marc had already booked his new band for a tour.
      And, the reason (IMHO) Marc isn't singing lead for Queen is that Brian May would have to step back from the spotlight and have fewer guitar solos. He wouldn't be able to overshadow Marc the way he does "Glambert."

    • @rogerdaly6326
      @rogerdaly6326 Pƙed rokem

      @@odonovan The reason Brian & Roger said they didn't want someone who sounded exactly like Freddie is because it would be too weird to hear Freddies voice then look over and see someone else standing there singing. It’s not what they say, it’s what they do. They are very actively trying to distance themselves from anything Freddie-related. I suppose they are attempting to prove they are worth their salt w/o Fred. Marc reigns our memories of Freddie right back in with every move and every note he sings. Hiring Marc would be very anti-productive for May and Taylor. The minute Marc steps in front of the Q+, Bri & Rog would end up being backing musicians for Marc. I doubt that would be satisfactory as they are trying to be the stars of their own show.

    2:53 - NOPE! 😁 That's Marc's normal voice. All he does, to sound more like Freddie, is to add a bit of a British accent, so his accent sounds more like Freddie's, when he sings. When he sang lead for "downhere," he says he heard it EVERY night, after the show, from audience members, even when he purposefully tried to NOT sound like Freddie. Keep in mind this is Marc's own version of BoRhap. He's not trying to duplicate any certain Freddie Mercury performance. Freddie never actually sang BoRhap all the way through, either. Queen had a backing track and would leave the stage altogether, while the operatic portion was playing. In the studio, Roger Taylor sang the high notes for Freddie, which is why Freddie "dodged" them so much of the time, in live performances.
    Marc fronted his own multiple award winning Christian band (called "downhere") for over 10 years. Then he auditioned for Roger Taylor and won the lead with "Queen Extravaganza," Queen's "official" tribute band, in late 2011. He sang with them until the end of 2016. When they were not going to tour in 2017, he started his own cover band, "Ultimate Queen Celebration." He's performed with them since, along with "Black Jacket Symphony" (they do EXACT recreations of famous albums, in live concerts), "Symphonic Queen" (in Mexico, with a full symphony orchestra), and as part of "One Vision Of Queen" (a re-named UQC). He frequently tours central and eastern Europe, either with his band or with local musicians recruited for the tour. He's done concerts around the world, appearing multiple years in such far-flung locations such as Israel and Australia.
    Marc also did vocals for the "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie. The 30+ year old analog magnetic tape master recordings would not have been up to modern "Dolby Atmos" digital quality standards, so they used a technique called "vocal layering," where they blended Marc's voice with Freddie's. If they didn't have a good copy of Freddie singing something they wanted in the movie, it was purely Marc singing it. for some reason, they gave Marc almost ZERO credit in the movie and after. But, if it wasn't for Marc, that movie could never have been made. You can see the tracks in this photo from the Live Aid scene mixing board, where Freddie's track is "LV-STEM LVAID DRY FREDDIE_01" and Marc's track is "LV-STEM LVAID_01," directly beneath it.
    i.imgur.com/Oqxw81z.jpg
    Marc has several albums of his own music out as well. In December 2019, Marc was the special guest star for the Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant Christmas tour. He brought the house down every night. The three of them released their cover of "Silver Bells" which went to number one on the Christian Music chart. For Christmas 2020, Marc teamed with Amy Grant to release their cover of "The Christmas Waltz," a Frank Sinatra song. Marc has also released albums of his own music, traditional Christmas music, and other covers.
