Layne Staley is one of the greatest lead vocalists of all-time. (R.I.P.) Miss that guy!
The whole album Dirt is a masterpiece in my opinion.
I was struck by a car while bicycling in the early 90’s
and this band got me through some tough times.
The most underrated band in music history.
This has been on my "stay list" since it came out......R.I.P. Layne.... you are greatly missed by many, especially this 56 year old man. God Loves Grunge!!!
"Live at the Moore" is a nice concert to check out. There's just nothing else like hearing Layne live. It's something special. For Dirt tracks, check out their "Live" album, which is a compilation of songs from various concerts over the years. What he does with his voice on the songs "Dirt" and "Junkhead" from that album is just out of this world.
I was there when they taped the show....I got in with a can of corn..... weather was terrible... place was packed.... best time of my life! Almost got in to the "Singles" taping with AIC and Soundgarden..... but was delayed from going because a Delivery of a 1/4 lb was a late arrival.
Guitarist Jerry Cantrell and singer Layne STALEY wrote RAIN WHEN I DIE about their respective girlfriends.
Jerry Cantrell labeled Alice In Chains as a HEAVY BLUES ROCK BAND, they just happened to come out in 1990 with Facelift BEFORE the Seattle Grunge scene exploded.
Layne was better Live than the studio version. Love Hate Love live at the Moore in December 1990 is UNTOUCHABLE PERFECTION performed live by a rock band. Other rock bands should strive to have a live performance that perfect.
Layne Staley's vocal range can run rings around any other grunge singer in my opinion. Layne could sing the phone book and never hit a wrong note. Even at the end of his life, with no teeth and a lisp, his voice, wit and humor were all still there. Layne's voice and vocal range was so powerful he did NOT need auto tune or pro-tools until he lost his teeth and had a lisp around 1998, and even then he still killed the vocals.
Barrett Martin (who played with Layne in Mad Season) said that when he stood to the side of the stage, he could hear the sound of Layne vocal resonance come out of Layne's body LOUDER than it did coming out of the speakers, Layne's voice was that powerful.
My Top 20 AIC songs... Love Hate Love (Live at the Moore, December 1990...Layne Staley in his prime and is UNTOUCHABLE PERFECTION performed live by a rock band. All other rock bands should strive to have a live performance this perfect), Man in the Box (Live at Weedsport, NY 1991 - the Layne’s Pissed Version...though the original version may be better to react to, because Weedsport was during Clash of the Titans tour where Slayer fans were giving the band crap and Layne got pissed and changed the lyrics), Bleed the Freak (Live at the Moore, December 1990), It Ain’t Like That (if you need a video use Singles Pro Shot video), Queen of the Rodeo (Live in Dallas, TX 1990), Real Thing (Live ANYWHERE), Them Bones, God Smack (Live at Hollywood Rock, 1993), Grind, Again, No Excuses, Brush Away, Frogs, Sludge Factory (During MTV Unplugged 1996, Layne screwed up the 2nd verse like 8 times, though the show only included one of those times), What the Hell Have I, God Am, Got Me Wrong, Swing On This, Social Parasite, We Die Young
The power and control Layne had was amazing. This song and Sunshine are two of my favorites that highlight it with the big melismatic runs in the choruses that he puts together, all in a hauntingly beautiful way. And of course folks always mention the live performance of Love, Hate, Love at the Moore, which is probably one of if not his strongest live performances, just not one of my personal fave songs, but def worth a listen. RIP Layne and Mike Starr
They were great at holding back and setting mood.
If there's one performance of theirs that's a must watch, it's the video of them doing Love Hate Love Live at the Moore. Layne is at the peak of his powers, and it's one of the most impressive vocal performances I've seen.
Please do “don’t follow” Alice In Chains. One of the best.
My favorite tune from them!!
This guy is right. Although, he could suggest any song by these guys and I would agree.
Extremely underrated song of theirs. Top 3 for me!
Y'all should really do Love Hate Love Live at the Moore by them...Unreal!
AIC have been my favorite band since 1990 when they dropped their debut record "Facelift". There are a lot of great bands out there making really good music, but there's just something "special" about AIC. Layne's voice goes beyond just great technique, there's a haunting, tortured, powerful, soulfulness to it, that's just unapologetically honest and mesmerizing.. A lot of grunge singer tried to emulate Layne's singing style, but always came across as contrived, because the way Layne sings came from a real place, where as the people copying him were just trying to emulate a stylistic sound. It needs to be noted that Jerry Cantrell, the guitarist and backup vocalist, wrote the vast majority of their music, and a lot of the lyrics too, so he is in large part responsible for their sound, and is known as a riff lord, for the stylistically unique and iconic guitar riffs that band created in a time that had never heard riffs like his.
For me, the first album Facelift, and second album Dirt, are equally great. Facelift where were they were finding their voice and has a rawness to it, and Dirt was where they really solidified their musical identity, and while there are fans who say Dirt is the best, I really feel that Facelift is on par. Their 3 full length studio album, which is self titled, is a lot darker in tone, and is really great, but takes some people a bit longer to get into, because it's a little less melodic in parts, and a bit more experimental, but it's a masterpiece in and of itself. I also really like the albums after Layne passed with their new singer William Duvall... they obviously have a different feel to them as it's not Layne, and no one can really take the place of the magic that Layne brought, but I think it need to be acknowledged that they're still making really great music, and have grown as musicians too.
I would check out their song "Love hate love" live at the Moore Theater, and also "Bleed the Freak" live from the Moore Theater. One of their best recorded live performances, and Layne was healthy at the time.
Totally Agree, Bleed the Freak is my Fav.
Anything from Live at the Moore is incredible! 🤗
Listen to Alice in chains love hate love live at the Moore.
After this album came out, this song was a pool hall jukebox staple for me just based in its length. Nevermind that I also loved the song.
This is the first time I’ve seen this song on a reaction. Awesome!
At least 3 other YT Channels have previously reacted to RWID 🙂. Check out Lost In Vegas's reactions to AIC, esp to RWID, Them Bones, Would, Rooster, Man in the Box, and Bleed the Freak.
I like that Dee is warming to Alice in Chains, they are one of my fave bands. have you done Bleed the Freak?
Totally agree!
crazy thing is, watch any live performance with Layne and he sings just like you hear on the album tracks..just so much of every bit of soul poured into every song. The AIC MTV unplugged show was probably the best one ever done and even as he was visibly struggling with his addictions he still brought the house down with his vocals
Maybe my favorite AIC song? This whole album from beginning to end you guys. Much love.
Deep Dark Heavy BARZ and Grooves to match that's AIC. And she's right it IS scary, haunted, disturbing and beautiful. Gotta put on your beats headphones to let it soak into your brain.
Song- Dont Follow! Also his other band Mad Season, song- River of Deceit
Yup. Got us in our feelings even when feeling good. Can't get enough
A personal favorite of the era. Layne and Jerry’s vocals always separated them from the rest of the pack.
Yes! More AiC!
Super enjoyed this reaction, and then Dee's transition of getting more into it. Live at the Moore Theater is a must see. All the songs are great and there's nothing like it to see them 'live' at this show.
I saw chains in 93', layne had a broken leg. Show was unforgettable
Must have been when he broke his foot and that was in the fall of 92. I don’t ever remember a broken leg in 93 🤘🏽
I worked security at the show in 92 (I think) where the broken foot/leg whatever happened. AIC was opening for Ozzy. It was an outdoor show in Oklahoma. My boss was moving point to point backstage on a four wheeler. Layne asked to ride it and my boss said no as he had borrowed it from a friend. Layne took it while he wasn’t looking and rolled it. AIC was still one of my favorite shows of all time.
@@BradCross1982 yes, you're right, my friend 🙂, Layne broke his foot in the summer of 1992.
That chorus is sensational.
no matter what imma always support a ALICE reaction regardless of feelings before the vid even start, thanks for reacting
Lovin' the channel guys.
You have excellent taste my friend!
Bro,I can see it in your face as soon as layne sings big ol smile. You're just like the rest of us you're hooked...it can't be helped enjoy the ride both of you all
Gotta check out Layne's other band Mad Season...check out the song "Wake Up"
Love that song
“Them Bones” is a great on if you haven’t done it!!! And “Frogs” MTV Unplugged
Rain when I die... From Seattle... Rains about everyday ...
Dude. She’s just putting up with this. She’s got a vision of what you’re going to do and be. Run.
Digging the cookies hoodie in the intro 🤘🏼🌱💨
You guys need to watch some of the Alice in Chains Live at the Moore Theatre performances. Love Hate Love, Man in the Box, Aint like that etc..
Lane Staley's vocals are insane. Check for Lollapalozza 93 soundcheck, he killed it with his hands in his pockets just standing around. One of the greatest!
Love Hate Love should be the LIVE version. #Raiders 🤙
Great reaction….Layne and Chris Cornell are both insane vocalist!
Chris Cornell, song- Sweet Sunshower
Layne's other band , Mad Season, is pretty good too. They have a different sound than Alice In Chains.
Deep!
Well you have good taste my friend
Layne's vocal range goes from sad ghost to angry phantom. RIP
Need to let her hear some AiC unplugged, I vote for Nutshell.
I miss Layne, but I'm also loving the new regrouped current line up too RIP LAYNE😮
EVERY day should be AIC day!!
Just so you know, the song fades out, then fades back in again before they end it.
Welcome to 90s Seattle grunge.
you must listen to Mad Season " ABOVE" live at the Moore , it's a must listen.
Please listen to layne sing with Madseason live at the Moore Seattle song wake-up it’s epic to watch live
Check out Black Gives Way To Blue by AIC, it's a tribute to Layne and how the band was moving on and needed to get back to work because these songs are too good to not be heard live. There will be the redundant comparisons and how dare they go on without Layne, but people move on and need to work and their stuff after Layne has been some of their best work a totally different headspace and motivation.
U should check out "Hell’s Coming With Me" and "Feed The Machine" by Poor Man’s Poison. I recommend "Hell’s Coming With Me” first👌
I believe it did rain when he died!
fact majority of laynes vocals were done in just one take
Check out Babymetal “Road of Resistance- Live in Japan”. I think you will really like the drums in that song.
please do alice in chains love hate love live at the moore
You didn't let it finish.
Down in a hole unplugged live it’s their best performance
Check out love hate love love at moore
can you do a reaction to Suicidal Man by Uriah Heep
You guys should react to City and Colours (Dallas Greens) cover of this song. Its phenomenal.
Definitely a totally different take on the song but no less impactful
There ain't a single bad song on the Dirt album! Brilliant record.
Check out Man In The Box and compare it to BOC's I Am The One You Warned Me Of-there's no doubt AnC were influenced by BOC.
Get Born Again
You didn’t finish the song. It fades out and comes back in
YOU MISSED THE ENDING OF THE SONG! IT FADES AWAY, BUT THEN COMES BACK AGAIN.
She just don’t understand…
Your lady don’t seem to like Alice In Chains. What a shame lol
Maybe Taylor swift is more her style. 🤦♂️
