- Despite an aggregate haul of 17 Champions League titles, this Saturday's final will be only the sixth time Real Madrid and Liverpool have met in a competitive fixture.
One of their most memorable matches came in the 1981 European Cup final, Liverpool getting the upper hand against Madrid (1-0) in Paris thanks to an Alan Kennedy goal.

DDR 16 I meant that Liverpool weren't the only team to dominate English and European football in the late 70s until mid-80s. Forest, Villa, Everton, Ipswich Town and Spurs also won domestic and international trophies. English teams were by far the best teams during that time until the ban.

We always talk about the great Liverpool midfielders from the 1980s. Terry McDremott, Ray Kennedy, Graeme Souness, Jimmy Case, Jan Molby, Ronnie Whelan, Steve McMahon, Ray Houghton. Sammy Lee played 295 times for Liverpool but his name never gets mentioned.
Absolutely, I saw him play many times when I was a kid. I clicked on this vid because I was thinking of underrated greats and Barney and Sammy came to mind.

My parents where there. I was a 6 years old football fan and after this defeat , my father promissed he would never ever go to a final again. Years later I have attend four Real Madrid´s finals. 99-00 in Paris, 01-02 in Glasgow, 16-17 in Cardiff and 17-18 in Kiev and he always refused to come along . After every final wisthle my first phone call was for him and we always had the same conversation: "Dad, next time you have to come" answering "yeap, maybe next time"
