    Absolutely random fun fact about the game mechanics: If your characters are all bloody, you can walk under a waterfall to clean off. Also, if you find a bar of soap, you can use the soap to clean off. Great for those moments when you don't want to do a cutscene covered in blood! :)

    Gopher, the Dex stat actually does quite a few things: Increases armor class, increases initiative, increases attack and damage with ranged weapons, and increases attack and damage with finesse melee weapons. So Reg *could* use the increased dex to increase his ranged weapon attack, as he misses quite often. :)

    Gopher, there's also a mod called OIO that will give you an indicator showing you which lines will allow you to ask a question and then return to the previous dialogue options without advancing the conversation, like in the Witcher 3 (it will also show you the number you need on a dice roll for some options before you click the option as well). If you want to use that, use just the OPTIONAL file for DC only, the full version can be a bit spoilery with showing things like companion approval. It does nicely eliminate some of the frustration with that "dialogue roulette" feeling, at least.
    About the upcoming major Patch 7, there is no ETA on it as far as I know, just that it's "being prepared"... could drop in a week, could drop in a month. Larian is only now getting ready to do closed beta testing on it, so it's probably a ways away from release.

    Yet one more comment about mechanics: The chat was bugging you to please try sneak attacks with Astarion probably because there are situations he can use that aren't obvious. For example, if an enemy is near one of your other party members, this makes the enemy otherwise occupied, so sneak attacks work. There are numerous situations where that happens, so I think chat was saying to just try it more often, as it might work more than you think.

      Shovel is Astarion's Sneak Attack helper in my playthroughs. She'll just constantly stay invisible and therefore doesn't get pulled into combat with the rest of the party. Whenever Astarion wants to do a sneak attack against someone, Shovel will just wander over and stand next to the enemy, invisible, and that allows Astarion to take the Sneak Attack.

      The elevator puts you in the path of the Harper group, who then point you to Last Light, where you get a sense of direction for the rest of Act 2. On my first playthrough I went through the Creche entrance and ended up kind of wandering aimlessly around the map - Last Light was the very last place on the map I ended up finding, after I'd already completed the Gauntlet. I was pretty annoyed at how much content I had missed.

    As per Pat from Pat Stares At, who has contacts at Bethesda, after Starfield the general atmosphere over there is they are one game bombing away from a lot of lay offs hitting them, so here's hoping the next TES/FO is REALLY polished.

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  Před 13 dny +1

      I still don't understand how or why. I mean so far, none of their games since Morrowind have actually bombed commercially. Even Fallout 76, which did seem to bomb at the start, ended up recovering. So that studio is bringing in the money. Why would they lay people off? I get why the devs might be bummed because of the loud critisisms they are recieving. Nobody likes that. But the publisher (XBOX) themselves are just going to look at the bottom line.
      So if every single game they've made since Morrowind has had people claiming that they've lost 'it', and that the next game is make or break for them, and it never turns out to be true, why should I believe that this time it's actually the case?

    • @SplurginSergeon
      @SplurginSergeon Před 13 dny +1

      @@GophersVids Have you seen how MS has been treating devs lately? If you don't bring in ALL of the money immediately, you're getting cut. There's no time for a 3 or 4 year game turnaround to eventually make money. Redfall was beginning to turn and got cut. Same studio that made Prey and Dishonored. Did that matter? Nope. Hi Fi rush was wildly successful and got cut. They also made Evil Within 1 and 2 which people loved. Did that matter? Nope. I know you prefer not to keep up with gaming news, but I would completely understand why Beth devs would be sweating right now, when they're seeing the carnage around them.

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  Před 13 dny

      @@SplurginSergeon I do keep up with gaming news, I just try to ignore hype, speculation and/or drama. I was under the impression that both Hi-Fi Rush and Redfall were not commercial successes, even though in the case of Hi Fi Rush, it was received and reviewed well at the time. But maybe I got that wrong? But then I have to ask, if you're right, and XBOX are canning dev teams who are bringing in the money .... then why are BGS 'one game bombing' away from lay offs? Aren't you suggesting that it doesn't matter if the game is a commercial success? I mean, it could be another success OR it could bomb. Either way they could get lay offs right? And if so, have you any explanation for why XBOX is doing this?

    • @SplurginSergeon
      @SplurginSergeon Před 13 dny +1

      @@GophersVids An interesting aside there as well, Arcane Austin was apparently forced into making Redfall in the first place, which kind of sucks that a project they didn't want to do in the first place was "officially" what killed them. As for why, your guess is as good as mine, as I haven't seen any of the reporting be able to provide any kind of reasonable explanation for why both those who are and aren't doing well are getting laid off. I think the only half decent reasoning could be something tax write-off related to be able to cover the insane price tag of the activision blizzard acquisition, something Starfield was hoped to be able to offset somewhat, since their console sales have dwindled (leading to them talking about bringing exclusives to other platforms) and game pass also floundering. In light of all of that, since the only goal MS has is to bring in money for the stakeholders, the definition of financial success of a game might be wildly different between what you or I might think reasonable for a game (think back on the insane news you get every once in a while about how a game is a financial success, but the publisher is "disappointed" by it not meeting some absolutely ludicrous sales target).
      Anyway the point of me telling you that wasn't to get into the weeds about companies' understandings of commercial success, just share some fears the current devs at Beth have from a source you might not have come across, and I'd say with them being under Microsoft's thumb, those fears are probably not unsubstantiated.

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  Před 12 dny +1

      @@SplurginSergeon Oh I agree that it totally sucks that Arkane Austin closed, especially if they got forced to make a game that they didn't want to make instead of another Prey game. But let's face it, corporations like Microsoft don't care about fair. They care about sales and market share. As for why? Well I'm a simple guy who doesn't know the details, so I tend to land on the simplest explanation that fits the few details I do know. And that seems to be "They didn't make enough money or corner enough of the market share for XBOX to keep". It's not an explanation that people will like. It's not one that makes XBOX look good. But it is an explanation that makes sense if all you care about is the bottom line.
      Conversely, with what I can see from Starfield, it sold well. So that explanation doesn't work. So if true, I'd have to assume that I am missing a huge piece of the jigsaw puzzle. And when you consider that people have been saying this about every Bethesda Game Studios game since Morrowind, the simpler explanation seems to be that people are once again mixing up critical success/failure with commercial success/failure. This is understandable because often the two are connected, with a badly received game also selling badly (Redfall). But this is not always the case. Hi-Fi Rush for example. That game was critically acclaimed but reports seem to suggest it did not do as well commercially as it needed to. Now it's also true that negative critical response can affect the bottom line beyond the game sales itself IF it has a knock on effect with how people 'feel' about XBOX itself. But I've not really seen much evidence of that either when it comes to Starfield. The critical response was not terrible, it was just mixed. Mediocre would be the way to describe it. And outside of a tiny minority, I doubt it will make anyone decide to not buy XBOX titles in the future.
      Now of course I may just be missing that elusive 'piece of the puzzle' and we see an announcement that BGS are being axed tomorrow. But I absolutely don't know why it would end up relying on their next title, especially when that title probably won't be here for 5 or 6 years.

    An enemy not looking at Astarion can be all you need, another companion nearby or being busy or under some influence - you don't need to be hidden or anything and not even straight behind them. :) Personally, whenever I play a rogue I start the round with clicking on Sneak Attack and see if it works, only if not I'm doing other actions, and it works surprisingly often. You can't really go wrong in this game, it's very open, just has it's own style of doing things :-) I feel opposite to you about dialogue, I don't like Bethesda cycle dialogue, I prefer when game doesn't indicate which lines progress, sometimes you can tell, sometimes you can't, but I'm used to this style of dialogue from BG and BG2, also NWN. It's similar in those games, although feels more unforgiving in BG3, doesn't really bother me. Roleplay is limited in crpg anyway, still this game has a lot to offer for different characters. Started my fifth full playthrough as Lae'zel origin today, and it's very different, lot's of small details and interactions, also dialogue choices :-)

      @GophersVids  Před 14 dny +2

      Im ok with not knowing which lines end dialogue but that does make it a more random chance board game than an immersive experience, and you have to adjust expectations. You're not so much having a conversation as playing a dialogue minigame. Focus on the result you are looking for rather than satisfying your curiosity. Always remember it's a game, not a real conversation where you can almost always steer a conversation. Roll the dice and pray :)

    • @alexmashkin863

      @@GophersVids It's not like that for me though, I play the character in a world (although I do have a reasonable knowledge of the world) and I easily immerse myself in a dialogue, it almost always flows well and feels natural to me. It's like real life, unless you're sitting down with your friend and a bottle, the conversations are rather concise and to the point, almost never you get a chance or even feel appropriate to ask all of random details much less make a sort of small talk. Maybe it comes down to personality too, it does feel harder and less natural to play as a curious bard in this game, because curiosity is almost always has consequences :-)) I think the nature of your playsessions has it's role too, you're streaming, so you have to focus on a lot of other things as well as the game, but this game is so detailed and nuanced that it becomes hard to feel natural there with your attention divided :-) Maybe, idk, I'm just sharing my own experience that's different from what you're expressing, it's fascinating to me how different your playthrough can be and how different your reasoning can be to mine.
