- For this tutorial I jumped in the new trend called Cake Top Forward! I also included how I made the gold wafer paper fan. This design is such a fun twist from the norm. Basically you take a cake and turn it on its side;) How fun! I did this with 2 layers of cake, but you could use how ever many you want. Any shape as well! Have fun with this one guys! And as always, let me know if you have any questions.

I like how you said the same texture as peanut butter, that helped so much!
Aww Mary I love this style I haven’t talked myself into trying it yet but as always you make it look so doable 💐👏👏👏🎂 beautiful thank you for the mistakes and fixes also 💐👏🏴
Funny how trends come around - top forward cakes were popular in the early 90's, then disappeared. I made one at christmas and made a scene with Santa sitting before the fire in his chair. the Fireplace was placed against the cake and the cake was made to look like a stone wall lol.
I do believe I have seen something like that! Very good idea you had;)
This is nice , will definitely try my hands on it. Thanks
Beautiful Mary. So pretty and the stencilling looks great. I made one of these cakes recently for my daughters birthday but I used fondant and it turned out lovely. ☺☺🥰
Very cool. I'd love to see more of these!
Thanks! Ia brainstorming;)
I loved every single detail of this piece of art! Again, I love the blue green!

I actually find useful that you showed the underbelly of this video (you could had easily edited out) which allow us to see how to fix mistakes many of us do, specially those of us who don't work in baking and only do it on ocassion 😄👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I think it is important to show that i make mistakes just like everybody else;) this is how we learn:)
Love the cake 🎂. Great job on the cake. It looks amazing. Thank you for sharing and keep on caking.
Thank you, I will
Hi Mary, your freaking me out with those sharp edges, there so perfect, I have an invented dictionary of words when I'm doing them😠 Anyways just saw the bark cake, loved it! Have you any videos on a scenery d ok man e with a brush an other tools in buttercream? Mountains, trees, etc. I've got one do this Saturday on one tier and I'm freaking out. TIA❤️
Hi! Thank you;) I actually don't have anything like that:( I keep meaning to and then I do something else;( must freaked out too.
I love this 😍. So pretty👌🏽. Was wondering though, how does one cut the cake?🤷🏾♀️
Great question and I wondered that too! We just put it back flat and cut it that way. If you refrigerate it, the buttercream won't squish out the bottom.
Great tutorial! I want to make this but I'm worried the weight of the cake itself will get weighed down... if that makes sense? I don't know how long a soft cake will survive standing... any advice? 🤷🏽♀️
I do use a more sturdy, dense cake. I would just suggest definitely using a ganache to fill and crumb coat to add some strength. Also I would not make a big one. No bigger then 8". Lastly, use the fridge. It will be your best friend;)
Superbe gâteau'

I find that a dry brush also works well on chocolate pieces.
That's my prefered method also;)

Super.super.super.
using rice paper to make the gold fan/palm spear is so genius! it's edible and inexpensive! I was trying to find some place online to buy them but they're so expensive! where do you guys dried florals?
Are they expensive? I beleive it;( So much easier to just make. I got the dried flowers at Hobby Lobby and I have seen them at Micheals too.
@@sophisticakesbymary thank you! For the dried flowers, I've noticed some of the varieties tend to shed. How do you go about making them food-safe?
@@ayeshafarooqui7001 yeah that is just kind of part of how they are;( That is ehy I kept them on the outside of thos cake. If you need to insert them I to the cake I would wrap the the part that is inserted with floral wire and then put a straw in the cake that you could put the wrapped part of the flower in. Does that make sense?
@@sophisticakesbymary I'm replying so late, but thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it! :)
Beautiful 🤩
Thank you:)
awesome, what did you spray and if may i know what is its for?
You probably saw me spray water on it. I find it helpse smooth the buttercream.
Beautiful. What type of buttercream did you use?
Thank you;) I use an American crusting buttercream. I do have a tutorial with the recipe on another tutorial if you would like to check it out!
Hi Mary, just curious what's in the spray bottle that you're using while icing the cake?
Sorry I forget to mention that;) It is just water.
hello, I just wanted to know if we can add different fillings in the cake like compote etc. Will it ooze out when you turn it upside down?
I wish I could say yes. But you would be taking a risk:( unless you were to keep it refrigerated until just before serving. Gravity and soft filling may not get along.
Beautiful.. will try this method. You said this is rice paper and not waffle paper?
Right;) did I day waffle???
I wouldn't doubt it. I try to say so much and I get tripped up sometimes;)
Oh wait! It is actually wafer paper. I might have to go back and check that!
What sort of buttercream did you use?
Beautiful ! could you please tell me the size of your cake. thank you
Hi, how much of buttercream did you use for this cake? 🌸
Oh goodness I have no idea:( Maybe 4 to5 cups if you use it as a filling too.
@@sophisticakesbymary thank you ❤️🌸
Can i use whipping cream instead of buttercream?
I would think so. Especially if you frost it already on its side.
It’s buttercream cake or whipped one
Hello Mary, your cake is just beautiful i love your work very much i wanted to know what color your dye was please and the diameter you used for this cake
Hi! And thank you;) thos one was an 8 " cake and the color was the Hobby Lobby brand Mint.
@@sophisticakesbymary thanks for your Reply🙏
Can you please tell me the name of that gold powder colour? Thanks
I just use a gold luster dust. THere are a lot of options on Amazon and I have actually never purchased one I didn't like. Just make sure that it is a dust:)
Where do you get the gold luster dust
I but it on Amazon.
Can you do this design with a filling?
I would be a little nervous with anything other then ganache or buttercream. Maybe if you did a thin layer of something else and kept it refrigerated until serving;)
Buttercream recipe? Thx
send me your recipe please😞😞❤️
