Many of the musicians on the Graceland album are from South Africa, a couple from Nigeria (?) I believe. Ladysmith Black Mombazo, a group from South Africa, is doing the backup vocals.The entire album is fantastic! Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes will jazz you, I'm sure. Truly one of the greatest albums of all time, and took the Grammy for album of the year in 1987.
He is not just Paul Simon, he is the all time best singer folk songwriter and pop singer Paul Simon!

I have noticed several times younger reactors reacting to songs from the seventies and eighties, and realizing they've heard them before without knowing the title or artist. Music is such a part of our culture we hear and remember it unconsciously. Movies... Advertisements... Television shows... Background music in stores. It's not unusual.
The tall guy is Chevy Chase. A famous actor/comedian. Starred in the Vacation movies. Was also in Caddy Shack. He even turned down the role of Forrest Gump, before they offered it to Tom Hanks.

Okay, people are talking about Chevy Chase as the actor in the Vacation movies, as well as Caddy Shack. Before that he was an original cast member of Saturday Night Live, now known as SNL. That was when the show was actually funny.

You're not old. But also, SNL hasn't been funny since MY youth. You get where I'm going with this? I'm 43 and think that anyone outside of my generation of SNL sucks. We're old men yelling at clouds and that's OK. It's super rose tinted to look at that gen and say anything other than Eddie saved the entire fucking show. Anyway. Chevy is a notorious asshole, so fuck him. :)

Of course, the sanctions were meant to end Apartheid. And so was the album.

Young enuf to have heard it in all those places pretty much ur whole life….released in 1986, it’s one of those songs that was already everywhere in probably only about ten years time.
The joke of the video is that the guy "singing" has nothing to do with the song.
You have to realize that it's a genius lip-syncing performance.
The way he just casually says the lyrics to the very unique rhythm, and just looks like he's talking to you, with all the accompanying mannerisms, is great! 🤙😎
