You'll get better with it as time goes on. The gar is a very cool fish, which we don't have in N. Minnesota. You're fortunate to hook into them. 👍👍👍

I feel the pain but shit happens. I quit worriying about microphones, had more issues with them than without them. The one I use now is just a usb-c to 3.5 adapter and a wired lapel microphone from amazon. I apparently lost it and after doing a few videos without it, I can’t tell a huge difference in audio quality. Also I dunno what camera you use but mine has been a hero 9. I do have a few deadcat wind mufflers on my cameras microphones though.
I use a iPhone 13 pro to film with , my 3 GoPros I had were shot. Theres a big difference between not having a mic and having one with the older gopros
