Container Ponds - Pros And Cons

In this video, we look at the pros and cons of container ponds.
David talks about the advantages and disadvantages of the different containers and tanks often considered for wildlife ponds, from wooden barrels, old baths, loft tanks and butler sinks. For each, David discusses some of the limitations to be aware of, such as in shallower containers and tanks, David talks about environmental conditions and how they can change quickly, or in deeper containers the pond plant planting depths and issues from the lack of a shelf as a standing place for the pond plants in the water. In deeper containers, advice is given on using architectural plants as a feature or a miniature water lily. David also considers issues with the tempting choice of small prefabricated ponds, and again looks at pond plants planting depths for these. Finally David talks about setting up a container pond, the advantages of setting the pond into the ground and considerations for the wildlife that visit your container pond, and also considerations you might make when going away on holiday.

I’m on a budget but also keen to reuse/recycle so this was really helpful. I’ve recently bought a second hand prefab pond but I’ve chosen one with lots of slopes and edges so it will hopefully give lots of depths and work well 🤞
