A shortcut I find myself using a lot lately is Ctrl+C > Ctrl+Shift+V to copy/paste in place, such as the header of one sheet onto the next. Very helpful video, thanks a lot
Oh man, I totally forgot about this one. I use it quite often too! Thanks for adding that!
+ YES!
Also, enabling or disabling "remember layes" when artwork is pasted is really helpful
@@JSHMjshm what does that do exactly? :)
@@adanabuyounis678 under the Options menu of the Layers palette I enable or disable the "Paste Remembers Layers" option. Helps when copying from one file or artboard to another
Several tips are really helpful, thanks dude you saved days from my life!!
Hi OU Graphics, loved all your tutorials. Can you possibly make a comprehensive tutorial on illustrator for architects (diagram making, line editing, etc.)? Would love to learn more about it, even if it's not free. Stay safe!
Damn that control+d, thanks man
It also blew my mind when I learned this one!
We need more videos just like this, great work!
Yes we do! Thank you!
Parabéns pelo prêmio no concurso, mandou muito bem no projeto!
I wish I had watched your videos while in Architecture school... Would have saved me so much time and made my work so much better
It took me a couple of the architecture schools years to realise most of this stuff. It's part of the process I guess 😅
Shift+O to enter the artboard mode is very useful for me. Thank you for the video, it helps me a lot.
Never used that, I'll give it a try for sure. Thanks for the tip!
Very hopeful! Thank you for sharing~
BROOO thankyou so much, this really helped and the tutorial was really easy to use as well :)
This is the best free software Ive seen. Respect.
Also I have never used the transparency mask in Ai,
I always do things through clipping masks, but this seems like a good idea (since the clipping mask method requires a lot of clicking to get into isolation mode, and to fiddle with the base object to find the outlines..., it's a whole thing)
I tried your method now, and it seems to be really good
and you are right important thing is to double check, if you really really have 100% black as fill
but it seems like a nice tool if you don't want to have full transparency, so I'm glad I made the mistake to learn how to use it for more things
thanks
Transparency mask in illustrator is much harder than photoshop. But it is definitely an amazing tool if know how to use if. Thanks for the comment! 😁
@@LearnUpstairs I like illustrator way more! You can do mostly everything with the toolboxes without having to go to the top row menu.
And the fact that artboards are disconnected from the drawing area gives you so much more freedom, even if it is just making notes on the side.
And it seems more light weight and quicker.
I always feel so restricted in Photoshop. In Photoshop I feel like I'm doing things with big winter gloves on.
I mean of course I wouldn't retouch a raster image in Ai. But Ai feels so much better to use.
That “Magic Wand” function!! Thank you!
I am new with this software, as an architect student , how can this software help me?
So helpful thank you!!
love it that was so helpful thank you so much
Select > Same > Fill color/Stroke color/Appearance/...
This is something I use quite often.
I didnt seen these types of video before, amazing man, keep it up and thnku so much..
That mask transparency was just amazing! Thankyou so much
🙌😁
You have changed my life
looks great!
Great tips!!!
You are doing a great work here!
Thanks!! 😁
a knew this all long long time ago, but not that 6th one. ty bro
amazing!
Excelente video!!!
Make the trees a brush and then you can use it as the same as in photoshop, or make it a symbol and you have a lot of tools to resize and place them
Sir.
Thank you so much for all your Graphics Content post here in youtube. I have learn a lot as improve my skills.
Thank you for your feedback António! I'm glad I could help! 😁
You have a new fan over here :D
Yaaay! Thanks!
Amazing!! Appreciate it
Thanks Flavio!
hey. nice one! how do we do if our fill of a block is in other regions like trees? We can't use lasso or magic wand tool in order for the fill to skip those areas?
thanks bro
Please tell me how you set scales in Illustrator -- and pull dimensions. What plug ins do you suggest? I work on 75 foot pylons or monument signs and am used to setting scales in CorelDraw (1/2" = 1", etc.) Please tell me how you do this in Illustrator, and pull architectural dimensions in feet and inches. Thank you!!!
Very very very useful.
thanks dude.
thanks u remind a lot of tips
Works well!! DANKEEE
very good.....i love you man....
Thanks man
Why didn't I know about masks in Illustrator until now
what kind of BIM software do you use? and how do you export it to illustrator like that?
awesome!!!!!!!!
Thank you
Hi there, I was wondering where to find the “red box”?
Very useful video. Easy to understand and follow. And hey, there's a typo at 5:57. You've misspelled the word 'objects'.
Thank you! I'm glad I could help.
Nicely observed. Sometimes I wish PC also had a built in spell check, I always do this stuff hahah thanks for letting me know!
@@LearnUpstairs hehe. Well for some situations when I'm really paranoid about spellings. I type/paste the entire text in Microsoft Word and let it check for my spelling errors. I do it frequently for emails. Keep up the good work pal. Kudos to your great efforts.
tbh i was looking at the keyboard key to notice the O positions haha
u r the best
cool video. tell me in what programs do you make the circuit? Is it a sketchup or revit?
Hi Kate! I usually use sketchup for preliminary studies and archicad for documentation and more in depth project things
i like your video, i have a question, which is program that you export your 3ds to illustrator? sketch up?
Hi Francisco! Thanks!
I use Sketchup for a quick modeling, specially under preliminary phases. Then Archicad later with documentation
I like it!!!!!
Hey! Thanks for very useful video.
But while making all my layers disappeared from panel. Could you suggest what did I do wrong.
Hi there! Sorry, I've never seen this problem. But did you check if you can create new ones? Are they still disappeared in a new file?
Hey just figured it out hard way. Basically when I was making it goes to isolation mode, it only shows isolated layer in layer panel. Even when I come out of isolation mode, layers don't show automatically, in order to do that I have to click another box in transparency panel.
Thank you for reply.
what is the advantage of releasing a compound path to edit an item versus just using the direct selection tool?
Both ways work similarly I guess, but I prefer releasing everything so that all objects are selectable in the same way.
If the compound path had some logic behind its grouping system, then it would’ve been useful. But most often it has way too many compound path on top of itself. Especially when it comes to page boundaries and frames.
Can u tell us how to export properly from rhino to illustrator without a mess of lines... as well as with layers intact
You can export the file as .ai from rhino and then open it and you'll see the illustrator file opening intact with the layers
dont you think the 3d effects or isometric grid have itss significance as well??
They are definitely very important! Although I rarely use them to make diagrams. Thanks for the tip! This topic might have to have it's own video
I think it have potentials in relations to graphic renders. Awesome n cool tips btw!
Man, Ctrl + D....... Thank you so much
I know, right? This shortcut is a life changer!
Is there any way to allocate a drawn shape to a layer? I'm an architecture student and use illustrator with digimaps but when i export the file and open it in illustrator all the information is on one layer. How do i then, from there, split them up into categories and then layer them, so i can quickly select certain elements of the map?
Hi Matthew! This is something I too struggled a lot. But here's how you can do it:
You just use the select similar option to select objects with the same line weight, line color, fill color and so on. Then you just gotta reposition to a new layer.
I use this technique in the video "Architecture Program Diagram in Adobe Illustrator". You should check it out:
czcams.com/video/j2k3jnacd-k/video.html
@@LearnUpstairs Thank you!
I’m just curious what program do you use to produce the axonometrics?
Hi Sundus! I usually use Sketchup if I'm in earlier stages of the project or Archicad later with documentation.
But basically any 3d software can produce axonometrics. At least the base, then you'll have to do some more work in another software such as Illustrator or Photoshop
OU Graphics Thank you OU graphics! this is helpful :)
@@LearnUpstairs Thanks alot, i also use these software programs, i used to think i am lacking behind , i am relieved from the great work youre doing and youve motivated and taught me alot guys.
Hi,
I have exported elevation to illustrator and i am not able to ungroup it at all.
Moment I release compound path , some windows get shaded automatically, even then whole thing is grouped even after pressing ungroup.
I tried expand command too.
Any tips what can be done?
Tia
Hi Tia! This step is usually very frustrating 😅 but that's usually what I do, release compound path and ungroup many time.
If you can't get it to work, try to use the direct selection tool (shortcut A) to select the elements individually and work from there
Ok. Thank you.
have a question. Then you work in illustrador the plan and when do you pass this a photoshop? thanks
You can work everything in Illustrator. But if you want to also use Photoshop, go to File > Place Linked to attach the .ai file in your photoshop file.
Check my last video abou the site analysis to see what I'm saying 😁
may i know the differences between illustrator and photoshop? sorry i don't know much about illustrator but i am considering about downloading it.
Hi Tristan! The difference is that Photoshop works with pixels, so basically if you scale it too much it will get "pixelate" and will look with low quality. And Illustrator deals with Vector shapes. So no matter how big you scale it, it will never lose quality, you can print it to put on a billboard or something.
There are many other differences, but that's a short brief.
@@LearnUpstairs thank you very much, i was kind of confuse because it almost has the same UI so it makes me wonder hehe
Could anyone explain what happened in 4:59
Hi Amr! At 4:59 and over the next seconds, I use the shortcut A to use the selection tool that allows me to move points individually.
Then I use the pen tool to add more points and move them to the desired location
How can you import an illustrator file into photoshop without losing its quality?
First, make sure to have both files in the same size. Then in Photoshop, go to File > Place Linked
thanks man, i wish i know it earlier... the Control + D 🤣.
i hav some question :
Where i can find the cars and people like in your diagram?
whats the best file export from sketchup for illustrator?
Freepik is a good website for free vector graphics. Best vector format to export file from sketchup is pdf.
You're welcome! Those isometric cars took me some time to find. But the vector people are pretty easy to find, just search for free vector people on google.
If you want to have the exact same ones from my file, you can get them at my gumroad link, it is in the video description
@@ArjunKamal89 wow thanks alot, hav a nice day 😀😀
@@LearnUpstairs allright thanks 😉
thanku ARJUN KAMAL
Hi! I'm a beginner at Illustrator.
Is that a pdf file or psd file exported to Ai?
Hi Gert! For you to be able to edit that individual lines and object in illustrator, you should export either in PDF or EPS. Which are vector based files
@@LearnUpstairs would this include exerting from Archicad as PDF? How do we maintain line sharpness in Illustrator from Archicad? Sometimes when placed in the past its not sharp.
Hey Erik! Yes, exporting from archicad into PDF and importing into illustrator works like this too.
If you import into photoshop the pdf will be rasterized and transformed into pixels, which can lead to not being sharp.
But if you go to Illustrator, with a pdf, it should open up the vector shapes so that you can edit the objects independently.
How do I keep skp layers in illustrator? Opening the skp file in illustrator (eps or pdf) only shows me a single layer. Help :(
Hi Santi! Unfortunately, that isn't possible. You have to divide them later when you import to Illustrator. Use the Select > Same to easily make groups and organize into layers.
@@LearnUpstairs thank you so much!

good but too fast
Tip 10: Avoid Illustrator and use Inkscape. Much less restrictive and resource -hungry.
Never heard of Inkscape, but I'll give it a try someday. Thanks for the suggestion!
For me Illustrator is also great not only because of the tools and stuff but because it link with all other Adobe products I use (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects and so on)
@@LearnUpstairs All of which are “rentware” that you have to keep paying for, for the rest of your life, just to have continued access to your own work.
Also Inkscape’s native file format is SVG, which you can use directly on the Web. Nobody wants Illustrator files on the Web.
More info about Inkscape here: inkscape.org/
It's a little too fast
I'm sorry about that, I'll make sure to consider that into future videos. In the meanwhile, you can try to use CZcams's built in setting to slow down the video.
Watch it at .75 speed bro 😂
on video screen, go to setting on the right hand click it and decrease the speed of the video from normal to 0.75,0.5 and 0.25.
Gasp* you changed the channel name
Yes! There's a new video explaining all of that.

1:15 How to make this image?
I didn't know about recolor artwork, I always used the "select same..." but this is waaaay better. thanks
The tip I have for others is Ctrl+F to paste an object on the same spot you have copied/cut it from.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip Samo 👍
Did you mean Paste in Place? It's Ctrl shift V
cool, thanks man
