Hello everyone, this video is dedicated to my Patron Mike Barnett who has been doing some amazing things with my MIDIs. He's been supporting me since the beginning, so I want to thank him and all of you for your ever-growing support! This piece evokes the feelings of being in a dream, like floating amongst clouds in ultimate tranquility, I hope it brightens your day.

This piece is considered by many to be Satie's most prominent work.
But while, as you can see, a lot of people in the comments reminisce about old times, express emotions of sadness or happiness, feel calm and tranquil from the simplistic beauty of Gymnopédie, he never intended it to be interpreted in any of these ways.
Satie produced this piece as "Furniture music", sort of like musical white noise in the background of other activities. For example, as ambiance for a fancy restaurant. He never knew that it would become so impactful in the world of music, as he died in 1925 and his legacy started to rise in the 1960s. It's amazing how even in a minimalist throwaway piece, he was able to, accidentally or not, capture such a wide range of experiences and moods, still listened to by millions around the world in modern times.

@@jldragongamesI don't think it is as unlikely as it seems. Camille Saint-Saens wrote "Carnival of the Animals" and locked it in a drawer, never to be performed. He was embarrassed by it. This (Satie's song) is favorite classical piece, and I often hear it in the most unlikely places. As an example, there was a Benny Hill Sketch where he is a clown who falls asleep and, while this piece plays, has a dream about dancing with a beautiful woman who walks off of a billboard.

everyone interprets things differently. some people might see it as sad because of similar pieces they experience it with. nostalgia is also usually associated with past memories and maybe people can’t attribute this to anything that reminds them of a past experience. so there’s no wrong or right way to describe it, although some words fit better than others. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying it’s sad, depressing, nostalgic, or melancholic. personally, i would agree that it does feel melancholic.

I've always known this song as a child because of choir, my teacher loved to play random songs before the bell rang. Gymnopedie and Clair de Lune are my favorite. I've always romanticized piano ever since I was 14 it always made my heart swell. It's so beautiful! A horrible experience almost ruined Gymnopedie for me, but I don't want to let that win, because I've always loved the song even before things happened.

While this piece has been used in games before, it actually isn't used in Minecraft. The main reason people think it's from Minecraft is because Gymnopedie No.1 and the Minecraft soundtrack are what's known as 'Furniture music' or music that's played in the background which you're not supposed to pay attention to.
Plus, Gymnopedie No.1 and Minecraft's most well known song, 'Sweden', have a few similarities which could confuse listeners.

I really love it too but for lack of better words it was ruined by her death. I can't listen to it and not think of that person and it really hurts.

I found this song through a video game titled “Horace”in 2019. I was watching a play-through of it, and this song was in the background. At the time, it sounded like nothing more than background music. Despite that, it still resonated with me in years to come. I’m still young, there’s no denying that, but this song makes me feel the change in myself, in some way. I feel more emotion now listening than I did when I initially heard it.
I’ve grown, and this song makes me feel that, somehow.

This will probably get lost somewhere and nobody will read it, but to the people that see this. Ever had a feeling you can’t describe? An empty thought that can’t be imagined, a blurry vision that can’t be seen, a memory that you feel but don’t remember. When you feel something tugging at your heart, but you can’t understand what or why. A calmness falls over you, along with sorrow and sadness. A bit of eeriness, loneliness. Joy, happiness. This song can be heard in the past present and future. Something so little yet significant. When I first heard this song, this is what I felt and it reminded me of a lot of things. Recently these recent years, I’ve become more and more self conscious. Sometimes, instead of doing my work, I sit and think about what my life will become. That my parents will eventually be dead, and so would I. And I wonder, what is the purpose. As I continue to grow, I might eventually find it, but that is something that might not even happen. Everyday, I dread of waking up stressed, and going to school, or whatever. The night is the only time I feel peaceful, sometimes I have deep thoughts like this, other times my mind is empty. And right now, I’m still wondering about the purpose. Perhaps there is no purpose. Perhaps the purpose is to find it. Perhaps it is to just live and be happy. But all of this is worthless against the simple question, “why”. Sure I can be happy, but “why”, am I not going to die anyway. This is what makes life so beautiful, scary, and meaningless to some. Because life’s purpose is something that you have to figure out. And it will be different for everyone, a path that leads to a crossroad of infinite choices. Every star in the sky represents one of us, some will grow brighter and hotter, some become dim, but in the end we will all vanish into nothingness. But the greatest difference between us and the star is that we can achieve something meaningful, something that will make people remember us for. By helping an old lady cross the road, she might tell her kids and grandkids and they will remember you. Or by making a donation, building schools, or even just saying a simple have a nice day. People will remember you. This message that I’m writing has many contradictions to what I’m saying, just like the feelings this song makes you feel. Anger for not doing something worthwhile, sadness for all the happy times that has past, happiness for the fact that we had even been happy, and that we will continue to live and explore life. My final message to you is to keep on growing, keep on exploring, keep on inventing, keep on thinking, keep on working because the moment you stop, is when you are forever lost, forgotten, and dead. Keep on going, and never stop.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts wild stranger on the internet.
I know what feelings you describe. Not having enough grasp of a thought or not being able to visualise an idea. Feeling nostalgic for something you've heard the first time in your life.
That's what this piece of music and art is for me. I heard it for the first time today, well at least consciously. And I feel like it's a memory from a better past, I've never had or at least I'm not aware of.
Life is what you make of it. That's what I have found for myself after 32 years at least.
Everyone has other expectations, goals and dreams of and in life.
And that is fine I think.
Some might live their life and will vanish from the collective memory of the earth.
Others will make a huge impact and will go on to live forth in history books.
And I think that's fine as long as one is happy with their life and their decisions.
The journey is what counts not the end of it.
At least that's what I have made peace with.
You don't have to be your best self every day of your life, or help each and every granny that wants to cross the road. It's okay to be just who you are.
Live your live happy stranger, not waste it, you might only get one, so at least be happy with it.

this is what nostalgia sounds like to me. there’s a relaxation to it with this underlying tone of melancholy. the same way remembering the past can be relaxing but sad to know that you cannot go back, but all the same it is beautiful.
