Hey... Just wanted to say, as much as I love your ASMR-like trail videos with no dialogue, I love this with the live narration! You've a really great relaxed style and lots of interesting things to say, and it helps that you're super passionate about it too. Would love more of these.
enjoy yr clips Dave. as for skills folks, just keep at it + vary yr riding terrain. noticed some important subtle changes in my connection w bike last time I was out on a new location. t steepness was a bit beyond me at times but noticed my mind had elevated its awareness more around where t front wheel was going at all times… as if it’d figured out THIS was t important factor on this days outing. always stoked to b riding/ thinking about t next one!
4:05 on any bike is absurd, well done on that behemoth!
I feel the new parent sleep struggle. She's 15 months now and it's definitely improved a lot (Except for uh... last night... and earlier this week... a couple times). Always love watching your laps Dave!
Great video. Yeah, having two kids I just bought a Ebike, I can ride from home to trails almost as fast as loading the mtbike in the truck, driving and unloading it. I ride way more because of it.
Maybe a double black isn't for the e-bike (although you made it look easy), but for everything else they up the fun factor 1000%!
They double double blacks pretty well imo. but you need 240mm rotors and good brakes.
And they up the lazy factor 1000%
@@bnorvs5929 not really you can still get really tried after 2-3 laps
at 67 years of age and 45 years of riding Squamish I felt i had earned my ebike. so I got a Sight VLT ....I worried that it would become a habit , but now I realize it is a dependency. hahah! I don't worry about my own opinions on e bikes, let alone the opinions of others and now ride happily in the middle of a pack of young and old riders and simply enjoy the day
I used to ride dirt bikes in New Jersey. Then moved to Vermont and got into Mtb'n 1998. Then got an Ebike 2019. The best cross between the dirt bike and acoustic bike!!
Such a fun trail, rode it Friday and man it is running mint, all time fall time finally showed up. On the kid sleep front it does get better (doesn't help to hear it I know haha). 4 year old and 20 month old at home, starting to see light at the end of the tunnel with #2 and the 4 year old has been fine for years now.
cant stop watching you plowing the trails
I do like the narration while riding. I’ve seen it mentioned by another subscriber, obviously your little snickers and laughs are great! “Come on Dave” also let me know that you’re busting your ass! But like I say the calm narration is really a cool thing especially when you’re hitting that double black feature! I did ask on another video when you were on your Norco, rear wheel lifts, are they tougher, or are you just leaning into it a little more?
Definitely tougher to pivot. You need to be much more deliberate compared to a lighter bike. It's interesting though because it makes me find alternate lines and techniques to compensate.
Interesting thoughts on riding tech trails on an eMTB. I have been riding trails like these for many years on my acoustic bike and I ordered an eMTB as my ride after surgery. I figured it's better than no riding at all, and the advantages and disadvantages are pretty easy to figure out conceptually. I appreciate the "real world" commentary.
Damn - pretty happy with that one. No doubt. I would have been walking 4 or 5 times already by that point.
Also new with e-bike, I like the tech climbing (tech lite compared to this), but still don't have the confidence over my regular mtb on the descents.
Crazy good riding.
Hey Dave! So good to run into on the trails today! Hope my buddy Dave and I didn’t ruin you shoot with our rc crawl trucks on the trail. Keep up the all the great content.
Nice meeting you both! We'll have to get out for a 1/24 crawl some time.
@@ddangerousddave for sure! Hit me up when you have time.
We have the same bikes. Meta SX and meta SX ebike. I ride the ebike once a week and the acoustic version twice a week. Do the same trail (second trail) as in this video quite regularly. Some things are actually easier on the ebike. But certainly not as playful. But to be able to do a big lap in just over an hour is crazy. Up versus down ratio is about 1/1. 30 mins up give me 30 down.
Nice riding. I’ve got about 700 miles on my 52lb, 250W mid-drive hardtail (mostly on green and blue trails in CO). I’ve found the bike seems lighter the more I ride it. I leave it at 0 assist on downhills and relatively flat places. But I have also noted it is a bit harder to change lines (especially on climbs). Seems like once Im locked in a line, I’d better just ride it out.
It will get lighter as well! As the battery with a three to five year lifespan wears out, them price a new battery up! Where as My Scott Scale 710 hardtail purchased in 2018 next year is five years old, still as good as new!
Great content, Dave. Thanks for the comparison.
Dave. Let's not make "acoustic bike" a thing please 😂
Agree....has nothing to do with sound!
"rule #1 of solo rides, dont to stupid things"

Most people in the real world don’t ride double black on analogue or ebikes. Love my ebikes and regular ride black trails. But then again I just rode in Andorra on a Commencal SX and loved it. So I just bought a new Commencal Clash.
This will be strictly for chair lifts and shuttles.
I’m in it for going down, not riding up.
Try a 40 lb ebike, eg Turbo Levo SL. They will work fine on these trails ...
I also only ride my e-mtb about once a month cause I prefer riding my Santa Cruz Tallboy. It climbs great and way more fun on the descents.
Love my Meta Power!
Good vid man 👍
Man...I loved the video..Loved the trail...could you pls Share the configs you have on the go pro?.. .I Could never get a video quality like yours. I am so disapointed with my video quality that I am almost quiting filming. PLS save me...
Again AWESOME videos. Great info about the E-bikes. I could Test drive the lumen last week... my video quality sucks so did not move on with the channel yet.
What a trail. I would be pushing my bike down half of that haha. Nice work.
since switching to e-bikes I've found for dh double black etc it just takes getting used to the weight of it. You learn the sweet spot and handling characteristics of the heavier weight. We are just so used to using light bikes that it feels awkward at first. I grew up riding 45-50 pound dh bikes though so that may also be a factor. I still definitely prefer a regular bike for skinnies as it is just easier to maneuver. I'm hoping over time I get use to skinnies on it as well.
Awesome riding Dave ⚡️⚡️⚡️
The only time i start wishing i was on my normal bike compared to the eeb is when i come across a big drop i haven't done before, prefer to try it out on something i can move easier just incase i nose dive cos trying to pull up the front on the eeb when you are to nose heavy is pretty hard lol
I easily see what you are saying as I also own both types of mountain bikes. That is why I would really love to try an Orbea light weight ebike.
I have an Orbea Rise 40lbs, it's very nimble for an ebike.
Question: what's your top tip for trackstands? I've just started practicing in the garage and have a theory about having my _outside foot forward_ seems to be a good theory, any tips?
Also pedaling backwards faster seems to help. I'm not on a flash bike at all just an old 10 speed hardtail with about 20 engagement points on the hub ha ha
This is an old video, but nobody has explained it better.

Make sure your foot can't contact the front tire. Look at the horizon and keep your head level - was the best tip I received.
Ha! I refer to my regular mtn bike as my analog bike :) That was a sweet ride
"Acoustic bike" lol. I'm stealing that.
The clarity of this video is absolutely staggering. How's your processor?
Nice video, I like how you are talking with us
30 years ago, mountain bikes
Were made from exotic materials.
Then you spent the next few months,
Getting the right gearset, drivetrain,
To give the bike as near perfect weight
Balance as possible. Even the bottom bracket,
and 9 speed cassette made quite a difference.
These days, they add weight lol. My GT Zaskar
Floats in the local river.
Nyy it at throwing this out there. So what is the difference in a e bike and my cove peeler that weighed in just under 50lbs? People use to ride heavy bikes on trails before things got light weight oriented.
Oh wow this is the first time I’ve heard your voice, that’s a cool difference from the other videos I’ve seen from you
God, where is this trail??? Its so sick!
is it normally that dry at that time of year? I know it had rained fairly recently by the way all the plants were so green, but it wasn't like January where there were much more pools of water and such
Dryer than most winters. We just had a week of sun on the West coast. It's perfect dirt...Nov 19 😎
West coast was weird this year. We basically had summer and dry trails until mid october and then barely any fall at all, right into winter.
Cool video Dave 🤩🤘🔥
Demoed a few nice ebikes I was impressed by the power but the weight bummed me out I couldn’t jib around and bunny hop like I would normally would. You just had to go big every time
Not sure where the e-bike “failed”, but it doesn’t matter ‘cause this was a great video. Your narrated videos are fantastic.
Ebikes win 😁👍
Yo, what’s the rules for ebikes where you ride in BC? Where I ride in the ADKs ebikes are not allowed. Although I don’t ride one, I think it’s kinda silly they are not allowed.
Seeing people try trials maneouvers on an e-bike is pretty fun to be honest. Nice video :)
Hey Dave I was wondering what mudguard you have on your fork. if you could let me know that would be great.
Midhugger Evo 🤘
@@ddangerousddave thanks, im thinking about getting a yt tues and i think that mudguard would look pretty sick.
Super video
They make light emtbs though that are the same weight as an enduro bike.
watching this really makes me miss the shore
how are this cranks called? And where did you get them?
Cranks are made by 5Dev and bought at IMBY Bikes 🤘
Seymour’s rocks rock like u rock 😂🎉
So where did it fail? It seemed mighty capable.
Fun ride
I don't do laps on my eMTB but rather, circuits that turn out to be 25-35 km in length
Sounds like you got a squeaky bearing already
Another thing I noticed, is that you're camera here, performs better here, where in the past, your videos looked a bit blurred while riding....which...now, looks leaps & bounds better, here, imo.
You should try magnetic pedals.
My Orbea Rise weighs 41 lbs. Try a light-weight e-bike and see how that feels.
That hop sideways at 2:01 looked sketchy. I concur it's hard to navigate a heavy machine -much more tiring.
I love the e bike weight.
this vid keeps locking up on my tv
yeah - that is way too much effort and discomfort than I want - and it's all downhill - I'd prefer to chill on a hiking trail with equal uphill - only pedaling hard when I need the workout
It's easier to transition from a dirt bike to an e-bike than from an MTB to a e-bike.
"nice when you are a parent ......" babies are great, the world needs more babies!
Awesome riding ! What trail is this?
second trail is cambodia on seymour, it's to the right of the first big left turn on cabin trail, best of luck finding it
@@bazongers4304 Soon to be sanctioned and maintained by NSMBA I hear - it'll be on Trailforks at some stage in the future! I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet.
No need for a click-bait title... there is no fail here, only some great riding.
I love my Bullit, it’s fantastic for all day epic PNW days @48lbs. The only recommendation I can give to the 27.5 or MX folks is to run shorter crank arms. I went from 165-160-155, and found 155 to be the sweet spot. I never thought 10mm would matter that much, but it really does. Pedal strikes are gone. I’m also in a better position while climbing… not sure if this’ll help ya, but worked for me. Be safe out there. 🤘🏼
Can you add locations to your video info?
I reckon if having a motor makes it an e-bike then our standard rides are a Me-bike 😊
That's where the SL e-bikes come in - sub-20kg easily. ;)
wanna make shure... you can do lots of a.... trails... whoa..
I went mountain biking for the first time a few weeks ago with a group of beginners. I broke my tailbone on a green trail and now watching your videos is like watching a Saw movie. They used to be relaxing so I'm hoping they can get me to be less absolutely terrified to do it again.
This guy is master level. I've been riding all my life and I can't even do what he does. If you want to get better while you're off the bike, don't watch his videos, watch riding tutorials for basic maneuvers... like corner technique, pumping, bunny-hopping, gear selection to maintain momentum, etc. etc. But most of all, just ride your bike when you're able.
I love my ebike since I got it. Definitely different uses for us haha. I use mine in my city a lot and it's great
Ebikes built for the Uphill! Struggle on the downhill!!
I have a norco sight vlt. The thing I like most is that I can just go faster up the mtn. I swear I actually work harder on the e-bike as I’m taking less breaks and more excited to keep my speed up. Majority of MTB will be e-bikes in 5-10 years. It’s just better.
I find if I switch back and forth with the bikes I get freaked on gnarly terrain when I go back to the E, so now I just ride the E, but you know, I'm 61 ;)
ebikes are the best invention ever.
looks like you were sending it just fine on the ebike....
Awesome
Try not to do stupid things... OK MORE SKINNIES 🤣
Remember the greater cost of crashing hard and destroying your bike. Another reason not to go hard on an e-Bike.
I don't do this myself but a genuine question I always had is, doesn't this crush your balls?
You are standing on the pedals, not seated
the only place where this e-bike fails is, the rider who only gets out on it 1x/month.....
But we used to ride 60lb bikes back in the day. I dunno. I still don’t have a “light” bike though. Most of my bikes are in the 37-40 range.
🎉
Nice riding. This video is more of a showcase of the capabilities of an EMTB, than any sort of "fail".
People ride technical trails on dirtbikes.. they are 200lbs.. i think its funny when people act like 50lbs is such a handicap.
Pleased keep your Style of making Videos. Just the Bike, the trail and sometimes the Rider. 10-15 Minutes Holiday.
E bikes are commuter bikes. They’re great for going to work
Just getting out when your drained from work and the kids have stolen your sleep for years is the best, tranquility means more at that point
The video shows that the eMTB holds the trail better, less bouncing around. I can't actually see where an 'acoustic' MTB or an eMTB "fail" on the trail, unless the rider wrecks either.
What is that bait title XD i fell in the trap. So of course ebike are amazing and ride much like regular bike. But to me it's not only about being tired when i take my ebike. Anyway i avoid riding technical stuff when i'm too tired, alone especially, recipe for disaster. My ebike is derestricted and with two batteries it allows me to skip the car, which is good for my fitness and the environment. Sure it means i have some road riding to do but i can live with it. Also much more loop in the time i have for riding.
Why would you ride an ebike downhill? Seems like the wrong tool for the job.
Not everyone's style of riding, eh?
I know many will disagree, but that trail looks a lot less fun, and just plain punishing.
I do not justify riding a bike 40% heavier than a standard bike for climbs or down hill , I like so many others ride to stay fit . If you are lazy and tired sell your bike . I am 62 and never to tired for a ride. As for am e-bike if I was rich or had a sponsor maybe I would have one but highly doubtful. Like you basically stated they are for lazy people.
I live 6 hours away from any decent riding. I own a tree service and in relatively good shape. I work 50 to 70 hours a week, so once a month, I take off 3 or 4 days and go ride. Ebikes are a game changer for me. I'm not in real good riding shape, so with my levo I can get in 3 times more downhill runs in.
It’s just you
The e bike fails no where ❤
20 years ago and 'shore' or DH bikes were all in the 50lb range and people seemed to be able to ride these trails ok without a 'fail'. Bike tech has moved on for sure, but an e-bike doesn't 'fail' because it's heavier than a modern trail bike - sorry. Perhaps people are 'spoilt' these days with 180 travel trail bikes that weigh under 30lbs
I think the title was just clickbait because there was never a point in the video where he failed on it. In fact he didn't mess up once.
Have you tried low/mid powered eBikes?
This really a secret trail? Can we at least get the mountain?
@@HeyBaumeister nah its fromme

They're just trying to mess with you. It's an unsanctioned trail off Burke called Laos
