This absolutely should've been the winner. Not only is it a beautiful and phenomenally performed song, it set a new standard for what a Eurovision act should be.
I'm an Australian and was absolutely gobsmacked with this performance and how she was so comfort with sitting on a pole and swinging around like that! I got goosebumps every time she swung around!
Definitely not for the faint hearted !! But Kate has no fear and she learned to do this from scratch in couple short months leading up to show .. the girls behind her are professional pole swinging artists
Since Australia isn't Europe, it can only do either really well or really bad depending on the song they send. Good songs have granted them top 10 places. Mediocre or bad songs like 2021 or that voice crack guy got absolutely smashed by the televote. There's no in-between
it really wasn't. if you watch the other jury final videos of this performance, you realise it's just the angle this was filmed from that makes it looks like she was almost touching her. but there was quite a distance between them like the one uploaded by roi (watch?v=dhM7T63T3YA) is shown pretty much from the front, and you can see just how much distance there was between them
Until this year Aminata with Love Injected (Latvia 2015) was my favourite entry of all time. How did Australia not win or at least come top three this year? What's wrong with people? They're not deaf because they liked Netherlands and his voice is great too. So they must be either blind or broken or something. Love you Kate! This is just spectacular!
I agree Linda perhaps the mainstream public did not warm to it immediately but I think it's one of those performances that will live on and grow in the Eurovision memory. Oh and I *loved* Animata as well
Yes, they are deaf. 90% of ppl are deaf musically. It’s a proven fact. Add the bad taste of most of them and you have the eurovision results year by year.
The winner had a piano and a light globe , meanwhile KHM with two dancer where swinging 10-12 feet in the air , singing opera/pop while controlling the pole by herself and the visuals with them gliding over earth was breathtaking .. and she was placed 9th that night? .. Kay ..
Re: close call at 3:17 this is intended it is one of the ‘ghosts’ tapping Kate on shoulder if you watch national final performance it is much more pronounced (tho Kate was not on the swaying pole herself)

I think I have watched it for more than 30 times (^0^) definetly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in this life. I remember I screamed out loud when I watched this for the first time cause I thought one of the dancer hit her with her arm. Iol

She’s standing on a small platform kind of thing. Her legs are strapped in so this requires a lot of core strength! When getting up and down, the basically climb up and down themselves, that’s the most dangerous part!
.. the first time she came out in the sem-final rehearsal the whole audience just looked up and gasped as one in amazement !! I've been to a few Eurovisions and never seen an audience reaction like that just for the setup ...

I think they're the same sort of poles that performers like Cirque du Soleil use - I doni't think they are athletic pole vaults. Either way they are not for the faint hearted - Kate learned how to use it with some rapid training just for this performance

I loved the song, the stunning vocals, but they didn't need the circus it cheapened the performance. These acts are for weak songs. It made a serious, ethereal song look funny.
I am always amazed at how many things could have gone terribly wrong and how brave and confident the 3 ladies were.

The idea came from a group of street performers called Strange Fruit. I think they are based on the Gold Coast Australia
