- A lovely box of vintage linens has arrived at the Cottage in the Sky direct from the Lime Green Sofa....thank you Kate! I delve into some of them here with you and talk about ideas for repurposing the damaged pieces. I then get distracted by one of my sketchbooks from a few years ago.......a happy waddle down memory lane. Many of the damaged pieces will be repurposed (lovingly, of course) as sketchbook/journal covers.......and I can't wait!

well - that is just the prefect outcome - I didn't have any thoughts and ideas about them and you have plenty! So that works for both of us! I love a win win situation! I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with some of them! xxxxxxxxx
Yay and hurray for the win/win! I'm really looking forward to making some cuts and making some stitches! The first lot are in the bath for an overnight soak. I love them all and will work my ample backside off to give them all a wonderful new life. Thank you! :-)
Kate, you are lovely for sharing this with Vivi. She is so creative and vintage fabric is dear.
Kate is such a sweetheart. I love her vlogs, too. You are two beautiful English women inside and out. Thank you for sharing!
Oh thank you Cate! :-)
How wonderful that you can resurrect all Kate’s treasures!
I’m inspired to dig out my bag of my Granny’s tray cloths and doilies etc that I haven’t looked at in a while.
When I retired, a friend at work made me a pinny out of the old 35 year old curtains from around the beds in our hospital unit , that she had put aside when we got new ones.
Embroidered the dates I’d worked there on the pocket.💖
I use it when I make marmalade!
Looking forward to seeing all your linens pressed and ready to go. 🧺
Oh what a wonderful retirement gift! So thoughtful, so special. I love that!!! :-)
What wonderful linen so good that they are being given a second chance of being loved again. The book covers sound fabulous what a great idea. Love those chocolates enjoy the treat. 🙂
Cheers lovely......the first square of chocolate was gobbled up and very much enjoyed! :-)
Nice to see you so excited about Kate's package of linens. It is a real bundle of love. So many pretties. Have a wonderful time looking through them and letting your creativity bubble up.
Utterly he best kind of parcel on a damp, dark day........I'm having so much fun going through it all!
Vivi so happy to see you smile as you sorted through Kate’s gifted linens. The chocolate was such a sweet gesture. I could see how eager you were to tuck in! Love your sketch book. You are such a creative soul. 👩🏻🎨
Oh the chocolate was such a wonderful, naughty surprise!!! Washing has begun......pressing this afternoon......I can't wait to get stuck in! :-)
Love how those old linens smelled after drying all day on a clothesline then ironed by my mother, grandmother or aunt! You probably might use some of those pieces that have embroidered sections as pillowcases. I can almost smell what they would be like as a house guest hitting my head on the fresh pillowcase for the first time! Kate showed nearly everything in her mom's suitcase full of linens in her CZcams post as well. Cool sketchbook! As a student, you would score an "A"!
Oh there's nothing more perfect than climbing into bed amongst freshly pressed, line dried linens! I miss not having a garden to dry things in.........but the smell of pressing makes up for it a little. :-)
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Dennis Waylon Instablaster ;)
@Jimmy Bryant thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Jimmy Bryant It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass!
Great video Vivi, loved the unboxing of Kate’s treasures. Your enthusiasm fair cheered me up. Keep safe xx
Awww, cheers Marian....I'm glad this cheered you. :-)
🤣I thought the first piece of linen you pulled out was a big pair of bloomers 😂🥴🌸
Hahaha - I thought so too when I was editing.......nearly made it as the thumbnail. ;-)
Absolutely positively wish I was there looking at all those lovelies with you. The piece you said for a cushion cover I was thinking frame and put in kitchen or bath wall. Having a horrible day, going through my deceased mother’s things, so your video was exactly what I needed. Thank you Love.
Oh Sherri, I'm sorry to hear you're going through this difficult time.......I wish I could be there to help. Well, in spirit if not in body! Take care lovely. :-)
Oooo! Vivi! Those lovely linens from Kate! Would love to have my nose in that box! Choccie too!! What more could a girl want on a rainy November day! Enjoy!!!
Exactly!!!!!! I am the pig in the mud!!! :-)
I have too many fabrics in my stash! But been breaking into them - ooh the pain, but satisfaction of using up some of the oldest ones is great! Thank you Vivi - some beautiful embroidery there.
Good on you for getting into your stash and creating! Yay!!! :-)

Ooooh, how lovely......enjoy your gorgeous Christmas box of goodies. :-)
So nice to see those beautiful linens, I’m sure you will enjoy making creative things from them . Enjoy watching Kate‘a video and now yours . Thanks so much 🌸
Cheers Lisa....oh I am such a fan of Kate too.....so lovely and calming to watch.....and I always learn something new.
Dear VivI, Oh, my goodness, what beautiful items Kate sent you. Reminds me of my collection of 1905 handkerchiefs that my second husband's Aunts gave me. They at the time were very young and working at a hankerchef factory in New Jersey. Their boss would give these young sisters the seconds from the factory. These were at the time all hand embroidered. They are quite beautiful and have so much history involved. This was a time of child labor, quite sad. These very young women worked so hard to support their mother, one boy and 5 girls after their beloved father died of mouth cancer. I like yourself adore these linens and all their history. Please take care and Stay safe from your new pals across the pond, Debbie and Dexter-Dog in S. California, USA. 🙋🐾💕🙏😷🏥😁
Oh what beautiful objects to have, such history.....but sad history knowing the involvement of children.....definitely something to treasure and love. 😊
a lovely saturday watch well done vivi
Cheers lovely. :-)
You are a breath of fresh air!
Aww, thank you so much Leslie! I hope you've had a grand weekend. :-)
Good morning! Oooooh, need more bunting'!!!!!! Had so much fun watching your unboxing of Kate linens.....you rock! Happy Saturday!
Hahah - more bunting coming...but probably after Christmas. ;-)
@@WhatVivididnext your summer fabric bunting is still cheering us....it is hung over the stairwell in the dining room...now gracing silver foil stars added above it....we are semi decorating because, well, you know, 2020 .....
Thank you Vivi happy delving, :) keep well, keep safe, and keep smiling have a beautiful week x x
Awww, thank you, you too! :-)
What fun! I met the new neighbors today. Don't ask names because I don't remember. They have a little boy about 4 whose voice is so cheering when I am down. He was adorable. However, when asked if I could play in his sandbox he wasn't too enthusiastic. LOL I thought of you at that moment. Kate has gifted you with some lovely memories and a whole heap of fun. Enjoy!
Hahahah - make room little guy, there are some big girls who want to play too! :-)
Excited to see what you create with these❤️
I'm so looking forward to getting stuck in! :-)
Hello Vivi! They are sure Beautiful hand embroidered linens!!
Nice to sit for a bit and see what you’ve been up to.
I sat as I been raking bags and more bags of leaves and more falling as I worked. My feet are aching, so it was good to relax with Vivi.☺️
Until next time, take good care of yourself.
Oh rest well lovely....leaf raking is tiring!!! Have a lovely chilled day today. :-)
Just let me say one thing...I LOVE YOUR SKETCHBOOK! You’re so creative and talented! It was very fun to get a few small glimpses!
One thing you might think about for the lovely linens, are patchwork curtains with all the embroideries and cutwork, etc. I saw it on Pinterest, I think, and it was very pretty with the light streaming through. I love old linens and I am absolutely silly sentimental about old things, especially old fabrics. Have fun!
Thank you so much for your kind words about that sketchbook.....I hadn't looked at t for years so it was lovely to remember........ Ah, yes, a window panel treatment.....something I have been meaning to do for an age for my front window.........maybe some of these pieces can be held back for a project for me...... ;-)
Happy parcel delving! Oh and your Grandma's pinnie is the most beautiful colours. Aren't those vintage fabrics cheery? They almost make me want to do housework 😆!
Hahaha, almost! I do love my great nanna's pinny.....I can always see her when I put it on. {-)
Thanks Vivi, what fun you were having. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make from some of Kate’s treasures. Enjoy the chocolate. Cheers from Melbourne.
Ooooh, I had my first nibble on some of the chocolate.....it was SOOOO good! :-)
Yay for the arrival of the linen box! 😊 Goodies galore... and chocolate!! 👍 I am reminded now of various linens we have e of mum's, and a huge tablecloth that has a menorah on it... 🤔
Awww, get them out and use them lovely! :-)
Beautiful treasures, thank you for sharing them with us. It gives me ideas for some of the lovely bits of linens in my stash. Thank you, Vivi!
Ooooooh, yay for ideas flowing.......go with the moment and get creating! ;-)
I bought a lovely linen that has a bee lace in one corner. It has pride of place in my living room to be in display for all who enter and stay a while. It brought a bit of the UK back into my life when I needed a lot of a bit of joy. While I live in the USA now the UK will always hold a special place in my heart from when I did my studies there. I miss the charity shops where you could find the most precious of treasures, some older then my country. Thank you for what you do and my linen is pristine and more then beautiful!
Awwww, that's so lovely.....happy linens, happy memories..... :-)
Perfect viewing for a cold wet November evening, thanks for the upload.
Awww, thank you Jacky. :-)
Why is nobody commenting on the gorgeous calligraphy samples??! Lovely work 💖
Hahaha, thank you lovely!
Lovely vlog. I love the light sage table cloth. Teasures. Yum! Those chocolate bars look delicious. Hope you have a lovely time looking through the linens. 🍁🍃🍂
It was such a joy to go through them all and admire someone else's hard work from years ago.....such lovely items....I can't wait to play with them! :-)
hi vivi,,such lovely linens, thank you for sharing,,sorry your day was a little achy today,,,,i was happy that you got chocolate,,very kind of you and kate to donate to charity,,and to the cancer center i can relate,,,thank you for sharing,,your vids are healing for me,,please accept these hugs(xx) for your kindness,,xxxxxxxxxxxxx!!!!
Awww, thank you for the lovely hugs Sandra, they're very much appreciated. :-)
Hurry up and get started vivi so looking forward to seeing the covers it’s a beautiful idea. Happy days Jo
Hahaha - will do! ;-)
Vivi, you’ve given me the inspiration to finally tackle 2 boxes of old linens from my grandmother. I have no idea of the age but am thinking some go back to her mother in the late 1800s. I’ve been ‘stuck’ on what to do with them for 15 years (ugh!) not wanting to toss them but unsure what else to do. I just ordered Restoration linen cleaner and will start on them. I love the idea of the weighted glass covers, which will be perfect for the deck in the summer. I’ll look for a vintage shop for any of the rest that I can’t use so that someone else can enjoy them. 😊
Oh that's wonderful - good on you lovely. Have a lovely trip down memory lane as you go through them all. :-)
Oh, that box of treasure. I have been itching to go out to the fabric shops, but I don't dare, lol. I've a closet full of fabrics to choose from, but I love them too much to use, lol.
Hahaha - I know that feeling! ;-)
Great excitement... looking forward to see what becomes of all this fabric... My job today has been making Christmas stockings .. My embroidery machine has been dusted off ready to do the decorations and tags... Rainy days indoor jobs.. AP 991 no wonder the joints are aching...
Yay and hurray for such lovely rainy day jobs! And for distraction from angry joints! happy embroidering lovely. :-)
Well Vivi, I could not determine what you were more excited about.....the linens or the chocolate! I think the linens perhaps? Anyway, I am sure you will certainly enjoy the chocolate as it will be such a wonderful treat for you to have. The delight on your face certainly showed as you were beaming from ear to ear at the thought of making some wonderful things. Stay safe and enjoy what is left of the weekend. XXX
Oh the chocolate is a lovely surprises but I'm definitely more excited about the linens! The first lot are already soaking! :-)
Getting caught up all over the dates of posts. Loving the stash of linens!! My mom and I love linens too (Not really very practical in my small space but I love them). I super duper love the old apron of your grandmother!! That is a keeper. Don't cut it up!! The print is really unique and pretty.
It was actually my great grandma's....and such a treasured thing I would never dream of cutting into it. I love it. :-)
Wonderful surprise package!
It really is!!! :-)
Very nice! I would love to have one of those journal covers!
I can't wait to get going on making some.....but it probably won't be until the beginning of next year..... :-)
Loved this so much bc I've been looking forward to seeing what Kate sent even though she did show most of them on her video.
Will be interested to see what you do with them however long it takes. Thanks.
Thank you Mary.....I loved diving into this box......I have so many ideas.....now I just need some time! :-)
Was giggling at your description of choosing the bunting fabrics. That's me with a patchwork quilt and my husband laughs at me in my endless changing combinations until I'm 100% happy. 😂
We are fabric artists! Hahaha.....did Van Gogh use the first paint that came to hand? No!
Love old linen. Not that i use it often.
Me too! :-)
Ooo I love seeing beautiful clothe!
They're all such lovely pieces....I'm looking forward to getting the time to start creating with them. :-)
Halfway through the video and I just had to comment! Oh my goodness I have my grandmother's apron same cut and style as you'd, that she used to where in the kitchen and gave to me when I was 11. I absolutely wore out that apron. There were much tears but my mama and I collected cute but damaged vintage tablecloths and used my apron as a pattern to make me new ones out the the vintage tablecloths! Oh I just love your channel!!!!
Oh how lovely!!! 😊
"i always say lonely, omg is that Freudian" Vivi you are a gem 😂
Hahaha, cheers lovely. 😉
Nice gift of chocolate bars, nice cover for your cushion,I have books to write down how I am feeling and to remember things.nice idea for the words on gift tags to give to people, nice lining the book.
Cheers lovely. :-)
Have a good time with your linen from Kate. She inspires me with her quilts, what I love very much to do By the way ,. Told my son in law about the different colors of corn. He didn't knew either. Learned from you!
Love the nice chatting and see you soon again. 😘
Yay for all the colours in the corn ...and for quilting......hmmmm, now thinking the two things could be combined! :-)
smashing video vivi
Cheers Steven. :-)
My husbands brother died of lung cancer four years ago, nice card with cups, nice piney/ apron and nice fabric too
I'm a huge fan of the MacMillan nurses. :-)
🌺 THANKS FOR SHARING 🌺
Cheers Melody. :-)
Great video 👍💕
Thank you Teresa. :-)
LOVE the journal share of learning pop ups and lettering. Would love a lesson in pop ups in a video. I love paper crafts since I'm not a seamstress.
I may do that one day......I love pop-ups and mechanical books.....I have a few (!) and used to love restoring them when I had the bookshop. :-)
Loved seeing the linens and your total enthusiasm for them Vivi. I have been going down memory lane this weekend looking at memories of my mum who died when I was 17 and I found an old piece of fabric that used to hang on my wall when I was a child. You have inspired me to repurpose it although I'm not a seamstress so it will have to be something simple to do. Thank you for an inspiring video. All the best. Mags 🌸
Awwww, that will be a lovely thing to do in memory of your Mum, have fun getting creative......and many happy memories to you while you do. :-)
Such a lovely romp through the box from Kate! And what a lovely journal! Thank you for sharing it!!
Hahaha - cheers Cheryl, glad you found it. Hopefully in the new year it will have lots of sewn by me stuff in it. :-)
Beautiful linens.
Aren't they just......I'm really looking forward to getting some time so I can start creating with them. 😊
I've never had a tablecloth that didn't get stained on its first use. The last time I used one, people had never seen a maroon one before, and loved it. I ruined their enjoyment by confessing it was just a flat bedsheet.
Of course now I eat in front of the TV, so no table needed.
Oh, chocolate is good company no matter the time of year. I want some. But I've only just got my blood sugar in the 7 range, after months of high teens, so I'd better not.
~ Jon in rural BC, Canada
Hahaha - I love that it was a bed sheet!!! Ach, yes, don't mess with that hard worked for lower blood sugar level - I'll eat it for you. ;-)
Vivi, I asked you a while back but I don't think you replied. I'd love to buy one of your bags for my wee girl so I can put some feminine supplies in it. I'll pay for it as soon as you invoice me. X
Oh gosh, I'm so sorry I didn't reply (very remiss of me!).......the little discreet bags probably won't be made until Feb/March next year......but I'll let you know on here. I'm so sorry I missed your comment/request !
thank you, Vivi 💕💕💕
If you put your journal covers for sale, please check the name of the book size. Your sketch book was A5 rather than A3. A3 is approx the size of a single page of a standard size snoozepaper (such as a local paper).
Ach, yes, you're quite right!!!! I think I was so excited by the linens my brain fried!!! Thank you lovely! :-)
I loved seeing a glimpse of your sketch book! I have one, too! Yours seems to be filled with only artistic entries while mine is filled with a combination of art, notes, vacation itineraries, etc. Maybe you could do a whole video of showing us some more pages and ideas for Christmas gifts? Best wishes from New Mexico!
Ahh, this is just one of many sketchbooks in my home......this one was purely for my coursework while studying calligraphy......others are a real mix of words, drawings, pieces clipped from newspapers.......I love the history our books tell...... :-)
Fun visit
Cheers Lori.
I so love old linens, I'm guilty of hoarding them, though to be fair I do use a lot. I have found that spraying old stains, rust spots and felt tip with diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide {food grade} before laundering hugely successful. Even fine grade Irish linen can be saved.
I didn’t know about that technique Juli, would you be able to share how much to dilute the peroxide?
I use Hydrogen pre soak too......I had so many to do on this occasion I did the lot in the bath tub for an overnight soak. 😊
@@supermum9591 It is 5ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide to 50ml water (No fluoride, bottled spring water or distilled water will work} 6% peroxide is okay too just adjust the dilution accordingly and soak the stain for about 10 minutes before washing. Rust stains are a challenge but either mix lemon juice and salt together, put on the rust spot both sides and leave out in the sun till dry, rinse off then wash as normal. Or make a small quantity of neat hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, apply to both sides of the material and rub it in well. Leave overnight, rinse then wash. Sometimes this has to be done twice on a particularly old bad stain. The last solution I know is oxalic acid ( its used to bleach wood or remove stains. It is expensive here in Ireland so I haven't used it for years
You are so much like myself Enjoyed your video
Awww, thank you Pamela. 😊
❤
oh my goodness... Vivi... I love that piece with the sharpie pen on it. have you repurposed it? If not, please let me know, I would love to buy it. Stain and all.
Aww, thank you lovely......it's half way to becoming something else at the moment.....and I may keep a bit of it for me for when I move house... 😊
You might be able to remove ink and marker stains with hair spray. The best results are achieved using cheap with lacquer hair spray.
Thank you for this. 😊
