    Good choice of oil and oil filter lol. That’s exactly what I’ve been running in my truck for years. 137k when I bought it to 214k now. Runs like a goddamn beast with 0 lights on the dash. Butt.. unfortunately, it’s time for rear main/oil pan gasket obviously 🤣

    Thanks for the Video. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra that needs Rear Main Seal and will most likely do Oil Pan at the same time. Thanks! 👍

    I changed rear main seal. Oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets. Along with the oil pressure sensor. And I still have an oil leak. Where else could it be leaking from?

      You don’t have to unless your oil pan isn’t good but he said he just likes doing just because he is changing the gasket so mine as well just the oil pan but i didn’t change mine when i did it

    im seeing several of these videos but have a question. Why are you replacing the rear mail seal housing with dorman's whats the advantage? It seams like everyone is replacing it but why? I'm not seeing any bullletins from GM saying I should change It with a updated one.

    • @skab768
      @skab768 Před 5 měsíci

      Long story short, it's easier and cost about the same.
      Longer explanation: To do a rear main correctly on an LS you need a special centering tool. It ensures the seal sits perfect on the crank. Some parts changers will just swap the entire housing thinking they will get around centering the seal. If you torque the main housing to the block before you insert the long oil pan bolts, you can usually get away with it. The problem occurs when you put the long bolts in before you set the seal housing, it will pull the housing down and initially cause a leak point at the bottom of the seal then cause excess wear on the top of the seal. Once the wear happens on the top you will have catastrophic failure. Most major parts stores have the loaner tool that centers the seal.

      @mogyver69 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@skab768 Ya, i bought the new dorman cover but then removed the seal, installed the cover properly with the alignment tool and bought another new seal and then installed the new seal. Doing it the right way is the only way to gaurantee your not taking it apart 2xs.

    I decided to take a whack at just replacing the oil pan gasket. If I’m successful with the pan but the rear main seal is the main leak is my effort all in vain or can a rear main be done without dropping the oil pan?

    • @michaelhauer4340
      @michaelhauer4340 Před rokem +2

      You can replace the rear main without pulling the oil pan again. I just did the same thing lmao

    • @shinygritsifter
      @shinygritsifter Před rokem +1

      Thanks, Yeah- turns out my oil
      leak only got worse after new pan gasket and perhaps confirmed my suspicion that it’s the rear main.
      Going rate Hawaii is 1600.00 for
      that one 🧟‍♂️ I pictured myself doing it maybe snapping a few exhaust manifold bolts in the process. 😱

    I have an 02 with the 6.0 and 4l80e and I believe I have a rear main seal leak and I just been topping it off for years because of how much the 4l80e weighs. I wonder if its worth a shot to see if its actually the oil pan gasket

      @@ericvetick4932 turned out to the be the rear cover. I figured this out after having to pull the engine because we had a catastrophic failure that resulted in 5 spun bearings. New gaskets everywhere now hopefully it wont have any leaks now
