I feel bad for Kung Lao. Everyone is always on about how Liu Kang is the champion and the savior of the world and everything. With that going on, he’s just overshadowed by the fire guy. I feel they don’t give Kung enough credit. A bunch of fans only pay attention to Liu Kang as well and neglect the fact that Lao exists due to the fact that Liu is cast as a more important character to the timeline. I’m betting EVERYBODY forgot that Liu was the one that died in the original timeline. Hell, he died in BOTH timelines! Thing is, Lao survives in the original timeline. Even then, the fire god still overshadows the poor hat-wielding bastard. It’s as if when Liu shows up, Lao is garbage in comparison. I wonder how things could have gone if the story delved deeper into Kung Lao’s personal feelings. He just gets flexed on throughout the ENTIRE series. Hell, they literally KILLED OFF Mr. Lao just to put Liu in the spotlight. All because he was dubbed “The Chosen One!” Whoopdee doo! Did being the chosen one stop him from getting killed by Quan Chi and Shang Tsung? Did being the chosen one stop Kung Lao from being killed by Shao Kahn? Hell no! If anything, Kung Lao could have VERY WELL been the chosen one. Seriously, he washed the Deadly Alliance, defeated Goro and Kintaro, and had defeated a former assassin of the LIN KUEI, literally one of the most powerful assassin clans in history! So with how the story went, I dare say that Kung Lao deserves more to be the chosen one than Liu Kang. Everyone thinks that just because he ain’t the chosen one, he isn’t shit compared to Liu Kang. Literally EVERYONE rubs that fact into his face in MKX and MK11. He literally said, “I am Liu Kang’s equal in every way!” Now the guy was being humble...he didn’t say better, he said equal! But Kotal Kahn says... “Then why aren’t you the chosen one?” I feel that every character pays close attention to Liu Kang and Kung Lao, but always using him as a measuring stick for Liu. He busts his ass for everybody and what does he get? Ridicule, doubt and blatant dismissal? He literally killed Shang Tsung in his Deadly Alliance ending, whooped said Deadly Alliance in MK9 along with the 2 strongest Shokan and one of the most powerful Lin Kuei assassins, and this is what he gets in return? Being treated like a mere doormat compared to Liu Kang...such bullshit, am I right?
