I put the bag filled full with beetles into the freezer. Then feed a small amount of the dead beetles to my chickens each day. 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓👍
Do they stink up your freezer? Im using a trap and want to give the beetles to my friends chickens

I purchased the bags only from a garden centre and didn't know what to do with them. I didn't realize you had to buy a kit. This is my method, 500ml pastic water bottle filled with vinegar, add a funnel and swat the beetles off the plant with a paper towel in my hand so I don't touch them. When I get approx 60 in my bottle I start over, works perfectly. They destroyed my beautiful rose of sharon tree last summer and I see they're back already. Its mid July in Ontario.

Yesterday, I had 1/4 of the bag filled. Today, it's nearly empty because they're crawling out of the holes in the bottom of the bag. The holes definitely defeat the purpose, so I taped over them. Easy peasy.
Thanks for the trick, I did that too. Anyway, the bag will be full before it rains (amazing how well it works!)

Any other suggestions for these beetles? I have roses out back that are all chewed up, and I have Japanese beetles all over the back door so I think they're the culprits. I'm in an HOA community though. I can plant what I want within 3ft of the house. I have a tree out front, but no trees out back. We have flowers and bushes all around the house, and a veggie garden on one side. So I don't see a place I could hang the bag, but a spray might kill other pollinators. 🤔

My Rosa Peace from Heeman's is the number one target of the beetles. Every year I only used home made remedies and silicon dioxide, but not the greatest outcome. Please let me know if you know about the Ortho spray solution. Thank you

You could, though I don't know if I would suggest it. If you have Japanese Beetles inside the home, yes it would attract them. Just be sure you don't have windows open the trap indoors or you will attract more from outside to come in. It's unconventional to use it inside but if you do have more than you could simple swap, catch or crush with your hands, a trap would work.
How often should I replace the pheromone bait?
I went to 3 canadian tires and all sold out. lol
i had to drive around 1 hour away to find a canadian tire with 150 units and i bought a few.

Can you leave the trap hanging when it rains? Wouldn’t the bag fill with water? Thanks.
They have small holes in the bottom of the bag that let any water drain through but hold the beetles in. :)
Help. Do you wait until you see the first beetle or is it best to just set them out at a particular time of year?
You can either deploy the traps when you see the first beetle OR you can deploy them around the week they usually appear. Here in SW Ontario they usually appear right around July 1st so it’s safe to hang them around that date - they’ll show up within days of that anyways. If you don’t know when they appear, waiting for the first beetle will be just fine. ~ Will
@@HeemansLondon Thank you, Last year was the first year I have seen them in my area, I am east of Orillia in the Kawartha's and I did not note the date I first saw them. I am told these traps do wonders and may eventually take care of the problem more permanently. Thanks for your reply and Help. Happy Gardening.

What I meant to say is would putting the trap bag outside help attract the beetles that are in my house. I have vacuumed and there is alot less but they annoy me so much. I have 2 cats so I don't think I could put the trap bag inside my house. We live on the second floor. Thanks so much for your help. I have googled and googled and my head is about to explode. Thanks for this - do you use the End-All spray as well in combo with the trap?
You can use EndAll too, it would just control the beetles that don't go into the traps OR climate then before they flew into them. It's nice this AND that but not required to use to make the traps work.

Yeah, they'll keep living in the bag. Most people tie bag off and throw out but I'd suggest drowning them in water and then throwing in a compost pile so they can become plant food and not end up in a landfill.

is there a link where your buy your trap.... I bought one that has perforated holes at the bottom..WTF!!!
The perforated holes are in most of the bags in these traps. They help to allow any dew or rain water that collects to drain away and not fill the bag. The only concern you should have is if the holes are too large or stretch wide and smaller beetles can wriggle through, though this isn’t common. We sell these Safer’s traps in our greenhouse, if you’re local to London, ON (though these bags also have small drain holes too).

Dumb flyers but voracious eaters!
Problem is the neck in the middle of the bag is too narrow & the beetles tend to collect there & are likely to fly out of the bag. Have to constantly shake them out of the neck to the bottom.

Thank you for the video; very informative. I have a question/comment about the tall plant with the yellow flower in your flower box. It looks like a wild parsnip, which is also known as poison parsnip. Like giant hogweed and other members of the carrot family, it produces sap containing chemicals that can cause human skin to react to sunlight, resulting in intense burns, rashes or blisters. So if it wild parsnip, be careful. It is not native to North America and is invasive. Where I live, the plant has been taking over ditches in the country side. Weed whacking them can lead to burns if the sap gets on the skin.
