Thank you for this fantastic conversation Nick and Raelan! Nick is one of the most inspirational humans I've been blessed to know. Only he could bring laughter to the agony of the healing journey (another one of his superpowers).🤣Even with crushing symptoms, Nick KNEW he could recover and was determined to find the missing pieces. As he says, those were somatic tracking. (which turns down the amygdala and ANS response), self-compassion (which makes our brain feel safe and allows us to hold our suffering with love) and being present (which is the "being" part of this human experience). Well said and done, Nick! And Raelan, I am in gratitude for your compassionate heart and invaluable content that guides so many people back to hope and health.🥰
For anyone watching, know that you too can find your missing pieces and reclaim your wellbeing!!! Nick, and so many others on this channel, are living proof. Follow whatever gives you just a little more energy and optimism one step at a time.❤

What a lovely interview, thank you.
Many (most?) people with ME/CFS have their four Fs permanently switched on, for whatever reason. The trick is in finding the switch so that we can start to regulate our emotions and identify real danger from perceived danger. When it was suggested by my therapist a few years ago that I had symptoms of (childhood) C-PTSD the penny started to drop. The pain was often a way of dealing with huge emotional fears arising from childhood trauma that I had never even acknowledged. Since then I embrace the triggered perceived ‘fear’ and grief with self compassion, have daily walks, including slow meditative walking, wild swimming in cold water, cold plunges, and I journal and do something creative, drawing or painting every day. I have recently reached that awareness of needing to ‘ignore’ these perceived ‘danger’ signals, by pushing through with compassion, reminding myself that the danger is no longer there, that I am safe.
Thank you Nick, everything you said makes sense and is timely as for me. ❤

Thanks Nick and Raelan for this encouraging and empowering interview! It's highly relatable for me in different aspects...especially the brain science and the importance of self-love on our healing journey.
I feel like CFS symptoms as being a 'perceived danger response' of the limbic brain (Sarno) fits well into the approach of Dan Neuffer that it's a dysfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System. In my experience these are only two sides of the same coin.
I'm glad that Nick speaks out so clearly what he said to himself when using f.e. the 'somatic tracking'. That makes it much more practable than only talking about 'brain retraining' in general. 🙂
I suppose the indifference towards CFS symptoms doesn't mean ignoring or pushing through the symptoms at all. It's just about removing the judgement and the worry/fear aspect and so the potentially adding stress part of it, otherwise I would behave the same way like I did before CFS, which gets me nowhere..
Your interview has reaffirmed me that it's conducive if the 'consistent messages of safety' implement physical strategies like pacing/baseline work just like the mental and emotional aspects like 'somatic tracking'...all channeled and supported through self-love.
The brain wants to feel safe on all levels. A step-by-step process in which body and mind wants to go hand in hand into a healthy living.
I'm happy for Nick that he has solved his puzzle and is back to full health.
For me Nick reflects beautifully that compassion and self-love in the way we treat ourselves in everyday life is the major contributor to a sustainable and lasting recovery.
I'm going to incorporate these exercises in my journey. ❤️

      @francinesanchez5402 Před 8 měsíci +1

The way you worded this was so helpful! You clarified why I felt such intense anxiety at the indifference aspect.
When this first started happening, I didn’t let pain or fatigue stop me and it got me sicker and sicker. And it took me a long time to stop optimistically trying to live the same way and exercise the same way. And I really hurt myself.
The script was so loving and beautiful, but caused instant anxiety because it felt like I was invalidating my body’s message to me.
I tweaked it a bit to take out the anxiety (for me).. “Love you _____. You are feeling pain/fatigue right now, but I want you to know that you are safe. You’ve come so far already in learning to live a new way and should be very proud of yourself. Your body is not broken and one day soon you will move forward better than ever before. You are doing great and are right where you need to be on the path to recovery!”
I may change it as I learn before. But as of today, it’s a message I fully believe and support.

    Raelan says it so well @ 22:52 ! :
"I spent my whole life beating myself up, being hard,
    driving myself harder, thinking that
my value came from how productive I was,
how skinny I was, how many achievements I had,
    andconstantly comparing myself against
    everyone around me.
[...] I think that's such an important message
about that compassion and just to really
look at how you're treating yourself.
This life is meant to be lived and enjoyed,
and how much of our life do we want to go
through being that asshole to ourselves?
Is that the life that we want?
I think we think it's temporary and
once I get this or once I get that then
I can ease up. But it's a forever moving
target; we can always add one [thing].
It's never enough, once we get there
maybe you're happy for five minutes,
like 'oh but now I need that' or you know
'now I could do twice as much', so I think
    that's such a valuable message."

Hi Kathy Mc, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve had ME/CFS for years and the principles/strategies he’s referring to briefly here have helped me SO so so much in my recovery. Somatic tracking has been a game changer for me, as well as self-compassion, mindfulness, body awareness, a true felt sense of safety, etc. So I think there’s a lot to potentially learn from his story that could maybe help. I wish you the best!

      Hi Ezza123,
I think he’s using the term “pain” to refer to all the different symptoms he had, which included fatigue. Although it does sound like various pains were some of his predominant symptoms. But the principles he discusses here have helped me majorly further my own recovery from ME/CFS! 👏🏼👏🏼 It’s all about bringing safety to our mind & body in ways that work for us and help us get into a healing state. Self-compassion is huge for helping us get into a healing state so our body can find balance. I wish you all the best!!

For me, TMS work has become a daily,must-do practice, for nearly a month now.
And even though difficult emotions and symptoms and fatigue have shot through the roof of late, I believe it is due to an 'opening of the floodgates' affect - so I'm viewing this as a DIFFICULT but necessary step toward recovery.
Mind-body practices are, in my opinion, the foundation to true healing.

    • @Mozzos
      @Mozzos Před rokem +1

yes cfs/me, I had every symptom, syndrome and condition under the sun. I discovered Dr Sarno TMS approach worked for everything because it's all coming from the brains perception of danger which turns on the pain danger signal. My symptoms would switch from cfs/me to burning, to migraines, back pain so on.

      Hi Lu Baker Art,
I just wanted to share that I’ve had ME/CFS for a number of years and using somatic tracking on the sensations of fatigue in my body has been a game changer for me in helping with my recovery! Also I am learning to be more compassionate with myself with helps put my body in a healing state! So I think these principles he shares in this video can be super helpful with ME/CFS! Blessings on your journey; I wish you the best!

Honestly I never understood this approach. Even with the education and trying to ignore the danger signals of the body. The body doesn't allow me to just get up, do shit and ignore all of that without deep consequences.
So either this interview misses some points or he's just "lucky" that his issues have been resolved with this approach.

    • @lauracowan100
      @lauracowan100 Před rokem +3

Don't give up! You can still remind yourself you are safe and well without physically getting up like he did. That work will be powerful enough. Persistence and repetition is important. Keep going :)

A lot of people who have recovered have been bed bound, so you’re not alone. I know there can be resistance when you first learn about this approach to healing, but please be open. There are different ways to heal the nervous system, and you have to find what’s right for you. You also have to be gentle with yourself. Don’t be a perfectionist when it comes to healing and please be patient! I recommend checking out CFS Recovery on CZcams. Miguel has very helpful videos!

It's not gonna happen right away.
The key is to not freak out when you get symptoms and know they are just from your brain. Staying calm and believing you are fine is what is going to train your brain to chill and not send you symptoms in the future. It's a brain rewiring and it takes repetition
