Came for the knife review... stayed for the carpet maintenance tips.
Thanks for stroppin by to check it out and comment! Glad to know it helped you in more ways than one. ✌👊
Love that clic. Amazing. I’m headed strait to the inter web to see if I can pick one up.
These come in smaller batches, so you may have to be patient and persistent (and save up a hefty bit of cash). But they are definitely showing up - check all the usual online outlets, get on email notification lists, etc.
Good solid review no bull**** solid job. you will build up bro.
Hey thanks! And thanks for stropping by to give the feedback.
I've always carried Spyderco's and Benchmade, i also thought anyone who bought a CRK was just out looking to spend more than their buddies. I'll never knock the two previously mentioned but the CRK Sebenza 21 Tanto wearing a Wicked Edge is what's in my pocket 99% of the time.
The scales may be the plain Jane model but i love it!
P.S. Contrary to belief, with patience and ultra fine tapes from Wicked Edge or an ultra fine benchstone from Spyderco you can hone the washers to where the blade will fall shut with very little assistance, just ensure not to remove too much material and all parts are clean before reassembly... calipers aren't a bad idea either. i believe it's jdavis882 that has an excellent YT channel on this subject.
The Sebenza is on the pricey side, but not the stupid pricey side. And other than the clip, I also absolutely love the plain Jane coating/tumble - it feels like velvety super-high-grit wet-dry sandpaper. Thanks for the tip on the washers!
Did you have to tune the detent to be able to flick like that? Or does it just take a bit to break in and seat?
It took A LOT of break in to get there. And I universally add a drop of KPL to the detent ball too.
Any chance you could send me a link for that Benchmade Bugout? I saw it for sale on their website but it was like a hundred dollars higher than the price you quoted. Wondered where you got yours and wanted to make sure I was looking at the same knife. Thanks.
So the 20CV steel model is on BladeHQ (www.bladehq.com/item--Benchmade-Bugout-Gray-G10-Satin-20CV--114143) for $200 as of this posting - though they are currently out of stock - they have gone out of stock and come back twice before, so stick with it. The Flytanium scales are $70 at BHQ (www.bladehq.com/item--Flytanium-Custom-Crossfade-Titanium--124117), and the Ti hardware is there for a total of like $25. I did have to swap the scales and hardware myself, but that's part of the fun for me ;-).
How are you liking the timascus clip in use compared to the factory clip? Does it carry a little deeper also? Ive been looking for a deep carry clip for my small 31 but dont really like the look of the other 2 options I found.
I love it for 3 reasons - 1) In hand, it's flat instead of having the typical ramped bill, 2) It makes it look classier, and 3) Being more solid/rigid than the standard clip, it never slid/twisted/rolled or wavered in any way where it lands on the edge of the lockbar horizontal cut. As for deep carry, it does not change it any over the standard clip. The big strike against it is the price.
@@MitchBollig So I ended up buying the regular stonewash version of the RGT clip for my Sebenza 31 but I may return it. I love the look and ergonomics of it over the stock clip however I have 2 big issues with it - it doesn't sit flush/tight to the handle bar so everytime its pressed down it makes a clicking sound because of the small gap. Secondly it doesn't have the same retention on pants that the stock clip has. It slides right off the pants if flipped over too easily so I'd be a lot more concerned about losing the knife with this clip. Is it the same with yours?
For this RGT clip, mine does not have that problem. However, I know exactly what you are experiencing - I have one knife where there is literally sunlight between the clip and the frame area, and I do not trust it on pants with a thin pocket seam. Bummer to hear on yours - hopefully a repair took care of it, or return at worst.
On my 31 the edge of the blade is so close to the bottom of the handle when in the closed position that I can feel the edge of the blade with my finger..is yours the same?
I pulled mine out to do some additional testing/measuring. Here's what I found: It is very close (in between 1-2mm from the back of the spine of the scales at the stop pin so smaller fingers like a pinky could touch that in a pocket-reach scenario), but the 3.6mm of gap at that spine is too small for my fingers to reach in that 1-2mm. I tried it several times and I guess I'm lucky enough to have fat enough of fingers to avoid that - but good point-out for others, because it's a lot closer than I would have thought. Thanks.
Hows the timascus clip does it land on same spot as the factory clip?
The portion of the RGT clip that sits on the frame lands about 2mm further (i.e. closer toward the pivot) than the pinch point of the stock clip - it's really close.
6:17 I thought I was a crack head for doing this. Genuinely seeing others do this makes me feel less foul😂
Someone's gotta do it, and I literally find it easier with a nice pointy blade versus scissors. Thanks for stropping by!
where would you say are some good places to monitor stock/obtain one of these?
If you go real quick, you can get one at knifejoy.com. Also, gpknives.com has a decent selection of the more artistic ones. Other than that, you just need to get on the email lists of the big boys, bladehq.com, knifecenter.com, dlttrading.com, et al. and they will arrive in due time. Thanks for asking.
So this video is 2 years old...and you thumb flick this very smoothly.
May I ask if you could record a short video explaining how you thumb flick it? Because I can't seem to get a good grip and technique...
I absolutely will in the next couple of days, and I'll come back and paste the address. In case I forget to paste the address... it's probably gonna be a couple minutes to explain, and CZcams shorts are limited to 1 minute, so it will be under regular videos. Thanks for asking! ✌️ 👊
@@MitchBolligthank you! Looking forward to it.
Completely understand it's not made to flick...but it's possible haha
This one was fun!...so I made it tonight. czcams.com/video/wZT6Ja1y1gY/video.html
I just saw this come up for sale. Maybe it was a straggler in old inventory. I don't know why I didn't catch this on the other videos, but your close-ups showed this clearly: there is no thumb stud for left-hand deployment. It's odd. I think left-handers use frame-locks fine with their left hands, as long as there is a thumb stud there.
You are right - there is no left thumb stud on the lock side of a Sebenza by default. The reason I didn't specifically call it out as a con is because Chris Reeve Knives is one of the very few frame lock makers that produces specific left-handed deploying knives, with the integral lock and thumb stud moved to the other frame slab - I might have missed pointing that out in the vid, so thanks for posting this! Lastly, they are now producing some Sebenzas with double lugs, but they are few and far between - the Inkosi includes double thumb studs by default on every one, so that might be something to keep an eye out for. Thanks for posting!
Where did you get that amazing clip?
Rips Garage Tech at DLT trading (www.dlttrading.com/searchresults.html?search_query=rgt+clip+for+chris). They aren't cheap, but they are transformative on CRKs...and on a 'lifetime' knife, it was worth the splurge.
Beautiful knife, that blue RGT clip really pops, looks amazing!
Thanks - I knew it was going to have to don the RGT...or I was gonna spend the extra on the knife dressing itself (micarta/wood insets and/or art). In the end, I like the simplicity of this layout (stays a very thin carry).
What pocket clip is that?
It's a Rip's Garage Tech timascus (rippsgaragetech.com/), and it takes the knife to next level in looks, carry, and hand comfort.
I don't think you flicked it open enough, you should've done it a few hundred more times during the twelve minute video.
Sorry to disappoint 😊 - yeah, I am a confessed fidgeter...
....and see the blood blister evolve
That's an awful expensive box cuter u got there but I'm lookn for my own ATM.
Don't forget the hair, carpet dingleberries, gentle prying, and plastic wrappers too for this expensive little bugger 😉.
Pro tip here- a $5 utility knife with disposable blades works way better than a $400 knife when cleaning out the vacuum. Badass blade though
Seeing a common thread develop on this review - I guess I should clarify that the CRK SS 31 just happened to be in my pocket over a few days when I decided to film each of the "everyday carry" uses that I exercised my pocket carry for. It could just as easily have been opening mail or amazon boxes, cutting foam gasket sealer, child-safe plastic seal removal on the outside of cough medicine, etc...and to your point, a $5 utility knife works great for those too ;-). Thanks for stopping by!
Wish i had bought a 21 before they stopped making them.QC seems to have gone to he** now & i the "improvments" seems to make the 31 lower quality.
The 21 only needed an overtravel stop.
It's not the base model, but monkeyedge.com has some of the small 21's from year's past available. I intentionally waited for the 31 to get the pocket clip off the lock bar. I felt that was long overdue. I can vouch for the quality of my vanilla off the shelf one, albeit it only after several months owning it - that said, it still wins the carry battle when I'm gonna be with groups of people who freak out with fast-acting deployments. No one flips out (pun intended) when you slow roll a small thumb stud knife on washers.
This guy did not just use a fucking sebenza to clean a vacuum!
Yes, this guy did - he only has a small handful of safe queens, and the sebenza ain't one of 'em. If I'm carrying a knife, I'm using that knife :-).
The price of these went up $100 in less than a year? Thanks Biden
Uh...I don't believe so. The price is still $375 for the plain/base small Sebenza, which I think is the same as the last few years. I don't recall, but maybe I wasn't clear in the vid about the after market RGT clip, which did add $125 to the price as shown. All the same, thanks for stropping by.
@@MitchBollig ahhh I see I was looking at the 45SV w inlay
Yeah, those artwork ones start to stack up the price premium...
Why. Why so much money. I don't care what it can do or why people justify it. It's stupid. If it were called the Tingdong Linglong no one would ever care about it, let alone buy it.
I'm not sure if you find offense in the asking price, or that knife enthusiasts like me pay it (I imagine both, eh?), but I get you...Some people like nice new cars that cost 50K - I''m fine with used ones for 20K. Some people like near-perpetual-motion watches that cost 10K - I'm fine with $70 Casios. Some people like $1,200 iPhones - others like me are fine with $400 off-brands. Don't get me started on Louis Vuitton bags for $25K :-). This might help it make more sense, but thanks for stopping by in any case!
Wow. You can literally do all the crap you just did with a $10 Schrade knife...
Absolutely - thanks for stopping by!
