To be fair, there was no way the Lego Ninjago movie was gonna be able to make a stand-alone film that captured the essence of the tv series. I do think it's better that they tried to tell a separate story, as a movie that required you to watch the series would have... flopped. I just kinda wish they came up with a bit more of an original story...

If you want to watch Ninjago you should watch the TV show. It's a lot better than the movie. The characters and fight scenes and stories are much more interesting. It has 9 seasons already out and it's just getting better and better. I really really recommend the TV show. It's one of my favorite cartoons of all time. You should start with the pilot episodes and go in order though. By the way there's a bad special between seasons 6 and 7 but still watch it anyway. Even if just once. The thing about most Batman movies is that the characters each have their own personality. Dark Knight Batman is slightly self-absorbed, but still cares about his town. Lego Batman is Lonely, Relatable, and isn't perfect. Dark Knight Joker is a man who has gone completely mad beyond redemption. Lego Joker is still insane, but has feelings, likes and dislikes. All of these versions are great, the characters have all kinds of personalities, instead of just one.

The thing that hurts the most, at least to me for the Lego Ninjago movie is that instead of embracing what was there, they rebooted everything.
I mean, this was a show that at the time had at least 7 seasons (including the pilot) and a special under its wing, and while that maybe would've been confusing, it makes the movie feel like an insult to the fans of the original media, the opposite of what the original Lego movie and the Lego Batman movie did.
Makes me wonder if it would've been better if it was not a reboot and just a sort of special like Day of Departed was...but well, better.

To follow up on what you said about The Lego Ninjago Movie, not only was the dialogue not clever, and the story very generic, but pretty much anything natural wasn't made of Lego. In Batman, the water and the sky weren't Lego either, but everything else was. And in the first one, the only things that weren't Lego were part of the plot. Also, I don't know if you've watched the show, but none of the characters are the same. The only thing that's similar, really, is their names.

Personally, I really loved the Lego Ninjago movie. I thought it was hilarious, emotional, and really symbolized the beautiful and natural bonds between family and friends. I thought it was very clever how such a spiritual theme was conveyed, ironically, by material plastic bricks and for that reason many natural elements like grass and water were also included to capture this spiritual feeling.
On a parody level, the film pokes fun at classic martial art movies and actions movies. It even poke fun at classic tropes in the hero's journey all of which I thought were very clever and the vain of the previous Lego movies.
People seem criticize the humor but I was dying of laughter the entire time! The comedy has a really improvisational feel that can only be attributed to the comedian voice cast just making things up as they go along. They sound like they are having a fun and zany time and I really felt that energy from them across the movie. They made me feel a bit zany while watching the movie which established the tone. If anything, the jokes were so frequent and so good that I might have become a bit overwhelmed from so many comedic moments in rapid succession.
It was different from the Ninjago TV series true, but only in the way a superhero movie is different from the comic book and I can happily accept and enjoy both versions in their own special way. Even if you are of the opinion that the Lego Ninjago movie is inferior to it's predecessors, it is still an amazing movie that surpasses most other animated films in quality. :-)

THANK YOU! The Ninjago movie is an insult to the show, so many continuity errors, awful character redesigns, and terrible personality changes. You wanna watch Ninjago? Watch the show, it's much better than what the movie, yeah it's gone on for too long at this point after having a perfect way of ending the show, but even the later seasons are better than the movie by a long shot. The show shows that even Legos can do more than just be funny, to an extent, it's kinda like OG Teen Titans but Legos. The movie got Lloyd's story so botched, Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane are just an after thought in the movie when they're major characters, even Sensei Wu is nothing like his show counterpart. If I were to mention the continuity errors, I'd be here all day. So, I agree completely with you on the Ninjago movie

I feel like it just took the names of the characters and put them into something not even close to the original story. When compared to the show, I really don't like it. Great Video! Two things though: 1. If you didn't like the Ninjago Movie, I think you will love the Ninjago TV Series, specifically season 1 and 8. It does everything the movie doesn't, like compelling character relationships and an intricate plot that puts the movie's story to shame. 2. The accent is on the "a" in Ninjago, not the "o." I know...nitpicking. Overall I agree with everything you said.

Benjamin Ortiz Same. (I can see why your not saying the character’s name and just their alias to avoid spoilers). I was genuinely surprised by how they set up the twist without being super obvious. Also just how human and personal their motivation was really shocked me. The entire episode of “Game of Masks” is easily my new favorite episode, mainly because it’s a psychological battle over a traditional one. On top of that, Lloyd and The Quiet One feel very much like two sides of the same coin, much more than Morro in my opinion (Seriously, aside from the fact that Morro possesses Lloyd, they really don’t have that many similarities when you think about it). The Quiet One is motivated by the personal loss, pain, and suffering from the different attacks throughout the show, while Lloyd became motivated from the same to become a better Ninja and leader for his team. Man, I love Season 8 so much. I always get so into just how well they did everything on a story level.

Emmet has one key element of essance, and that's versitilaty.
Also, the scene where Emmet reaches his hand out to Lord Business as a means of friendship is a scene that touches my heart to this day. Right along with, Emmet insightfully explaining to Lord Business about the true meaning behind the creations of the LEGO citizens and of the boy Finn to his father. "What I see are people inspired by each other and by you. People taking something and turning into something new." Emmet just described the essance of creativity and LEGO'S itself.
P.S kind of odd to be having a video like this be put on September 11th don't you think?

The Lego Movie has been one of my favourites since I was nine. I grew up and liked other, more mature movies, but man, this movie has never changed me. It is still funny and of course, awesome.

You should watch the Ninjago series instead of the movie :) It's really great. It's completely different, and has no connection to it. It's a shame. All the fans wanted a movie that was connected to the canon Ninjago story, but that isn't what we got. I wholeheartedly recommend it though. The characters are way more interesting, the worldbuilding is cool too. I wish we had gotten a BIONICLE Generation 1 TV series, what with how much deep lore that story actually had. Or a theatrical film... Just imagine, G1 could still be around today. Sigh.

I know the TV show was better but sadly they decided to make the TV show characters look more like the movie characters destine

Before going any further, given the head of the trailer, it was necessary to suspect that the film would not be a sequel. Being such a big fan of the show, I laughed, smiled, I liked this movie the way I like the show. There are still references to the series (it had to be), a new story that is part of the "crazyness" of the Lego films that have been released in recent years. In addition, the dubbers, you can feel that they are having fun on them (in addition, they were the same French dubbers for the French version of the film). Jackie Chan in Sensei Wu makes me laugh every time, the story is completely crossed out and the "seriousness" of the series is in the background to give way to laughter. That's why I disapprove of the fact that Lego Ninjago The Movie doesn't deserve its place in second place among the worst Lego movies...but it's a shame that Clutch Powers (who would be in Ninjago as well, I love the reference) and Bionicle The Mask of Light is only in honorable mention. Those movies are so cool

Fun fact: in the german Lego Batman, the Joker is voiced by a CZcamsr who got famous for Minecraft Let's Plays, but it turned out waay better than that sounds

I loved how the LEGO Batman Movie portrayed Joker as something similar to a clingy boyfriend. It’s great.
    Also Daleks.
And Voldemort only using Wingardium Leviosa. That was great too.
