If you want to see what this motorcycle looked like before restoration was started click onto my channel name "Ringding" or search "Honda MT125 slide show".
Very nice job but the engine had a darker matt brown anodised finish. I had a '74 MT 125 and everyone laughed... until I put a CR125 barrel and expansion chamber on it. Then they weeped as I blew them into the weeds. Great times, thanks for the memory.
I’m currently looking at trading for a 74 MT125 and was wondering how to make it more powerful for reasonable cost. Did putting the CR exhaust on it make it feel closer to a CR? How close if you can recall? I’ve also hear of people switching the CR top end onto MT250s and getting good results. Anything helps, thank you
My friend allowed me to ride his 125 Elsinore (racing model) and warned me about the power band. After I got off it, my knees were shaking. I learned what a power band was that day.
OMG I had the same exact bike. I used to steal it from my brother when I came home from school and taught myself how to ride on it. He finally gave it to me when he bought a GS850 Suzuki
Beautiful and amazing! I want to learn how to do restorations like this SO MUCH! Just a curious question though: Why a BROWN engine instead of the usual black?
Oh the engine rotates counter clockwise... Good to know. Mine was missing the kick start lever and I was trying to start the engine with a drill clockwise lol. Do you guys think I may have damaged the engine trying to run it backwards?
Nice bike! I'm nearing the completion of my 74 125 Elsinore project right now. But I have no oil line. I noticed that yours doesn't have one at all. Did you bypass the oil pump? If so, how did you go about it? My pump works. But a nos line is pretty expensive. Thanks.
Yes, I removed the pump and made a block off plate out of aluminum. I also made a gasket to seal the block off plate. The shaft that attaches to the pump now turns freely under the block off plate. It works but now I must premix the fuel.
that's not a bad idea. how much oil do you keep in it now that you've blocked it off? I might do the same thing if it works well enough. thanks for the quick reply by the way!

Yes, I used the original Honda Shop Manual. There are 16 of them for sale right now on ebay.com. I recommend this one over a non factory one such as Clymer because I found the original one easy to follow and it covers everything. The original Owners Manual (small red book) is also available on ebay (nice to have but is only good for basic maintenance).
Actually the '73, '74 and '75 MT's had brown engines and not just'73 and '74 as you stated in the comments below. 1976 engine was black as you state. The brown MT engine was a darker brown than what you painted yours which is to bright of a brown. The OEM color is more of a midnight brown.
Oh its an MT125 not a CR 125 . I bought a new CR125 in 74. I always thought the only differance between a MT125 and a CR125 was the MT had lights and turn signals. I just never saw many MT'S in the desert. sweet bike .
ebay is where I found most of my parts. Honda still sells some parts but mostly just small parts like pan screws, hex bolts, brake shoes, gaskets and o-rings.

Beautiful, epic bikes. PLEASE preserve.
😳🤔😊 Cost me $745.47 in 1974 New Zealand. The fun and education I had on that bike was priceless.
Great memories from my teens. 74 Elsinore was my first bike brand new. Cheers for the video

Brown is the original colour of this engine in 1974. Black was the colour for 1975 and 1976.
Cause 70s

I keep the oil tank empty. It is more convenient to have the oil pump working (no fueling up at the station). I may put it back on in the future.
i just bought one is there any guide or manul to help me get it running???

clean bike. white did you paint the engine brown?
Brown is the original colour of this engine in 1974. The 1975 and 1976 MT125 had a black engine.

Not an Elsinore.. but nice 👍
Did the Mt have the same engine as the Cr?? But the Mt is an Enduro
No, the MT engine was absolutely gutless, even compared to other 125 trail bikes. 5 speed gear box as well. The CR had a six speed.
Where can i get parts for it
ebay is where I found most of my parts. Honda still sells some parts but mostly just small parts like pan screws, hex bolts, brake shoes, gaskets and o-rings.
Ever been rebuilt?
Yes, completely rebuilt. I have a video on it. MT125 restoration slide show.
Do You Want to sell it?
+Neil Morgan
Short answer is no, I put to much time into it to let it go.
