Duuude you have barely touched the tip of the mountain of talent atif has. This monsterous beauty of a man can hold notes upto freakin 32 seconds. And he has performed 4 hours straight when his collab artist didnt show up. U give him anything, any genre, Atif Aslam can sing it will sing it, and smh make his own version of it. U give him a song and he can perform it 10 different ways. He is such a freaking gem and thats coming from the citizen of a country that banned him.

That wasn't him mistakenly constraining his voice, it's the language, Hindi and Urdu has a lot of closed vowels you can't open up for those, you need to hold them in. Vowels like ae, ee, etc. You can't sing in these languages by opening up your mouth completely, it's the requirement of the language.

It was a music competition finale between Pakistan and India in Dubai. He was a judge from Pakistan and ultimately his team won final from arch rivals India.
That tone you pointed out was the stylistic approach he naturally sings with, and yes he used few off note of that scale to end the song, went a but off pitch as well but that can happen while singing live.
He is a Superstar in South Asia, checkout his recent coke studio performances specially Wohi Khuda hai!
And yes, Western Vocal Coaches put so much emphasis on tone, they should also consider pitch accuracy (which is given very very very much importance here in Eastern Music), rhythmic patterns, scales and things of this sort.

This was grand finale of "surkshetre" I guess, a music reality show competition between India and Pakistan and Atif was on of coaches.

A few years ago there was a competetion between Indian and Pakistani New Singers staged in Dubai, UAE. The competition was spread over about 12 weeks, eliminations were done by three judges. Atif Aslam was the Team Captain of Pakistani Singers. This is the Final, last week and Atif is just singing for the audience. He is very tired. He is not competing here and there is no Sound Engineers behind him. Eventualy the competition was won by a Pakistani Singer. The competetion was called Sur Kshetra, a TV program of India but held on neutral grounds in a tent in Dubai.If you want to listen to his talent then look for ''Tajdar E Haram'' Coke Studio , You will be delighted with his performance.
