  • Hey everyone! So here’s a 2014 VW Jetta Sportwagen Tdi diesel with 46k miles for just $16,990. Would you consider buying a car like this to drive daily? The EPA is 39 Hwy & 29 city.

The Jetta has an advantage over the Passat. The brake pedal is further to the left of the throttle in the Jetta. I drove a couple of Passats, and had trouble keeping the edge of my work boot off of the brake pedal while punching down on the accelerator. I needed up with a Jetta wagon and don’t have this problem at all.

I agree. Although I got used to the close pedals on the Passat. At first it was weird

I have a 2014 that I bought in 2019 with 36k miles on it. I just cracked 100k miles on it and it has worked great. Mileage varies from person to person, but I am able to get 50mpg on the highway mainly because I stick to doing 65mph. If I still had the stock tires, I would be getting around 60mpg. I am going to do some modifications hopefully soon in order to get 60+mpg

Obviously yours didn’t get redone during the recall. I have a 2014 Jetta sport wagon TDI with an automatic. I have been using Marvel Mystery Oil as an additive to the fuel. The computer on the car reads anywhere from 34-40 mpg. When I check it according to the amount of fuel I put in it, it is usually 36 mpg fairly consistently. Most got 55-65 mpg before the recall but since it was smoking the competition on mpg they complained and the EPA said VW had altered the emissions and made VW do a nation wide recall of all VW diesels. My brother bought a 2012 Passat and it is powerless compared to my 2014 Jetta. But I do know that both were part of the recall.
As for doing away with the egr, there are companies in Canada that offer the parts needed and there are many youtube videos on the topic, both for and against. Kerma, Malone and Rawtek are 3 that come to mind. Kerma offers a tuner that doesn’t require any exhaust changes. It is around $800.

@@Richard5873 If I were to make a blind guess I would say lower ball joint and/or control arm bushing(s) would be the first thing I would look at, could also be a bad strut but I imagine you would have mentioned if it "floated" on that corner.
The only common issue I have had up front is finding the right damn sized spline drive socket to change the CV shaft.
The OE outter tie rods aren't a fan of large pot holes, don't recall what I've got in there now, I spent a little more on them.

depends. they can be good vehicles, though from what i’ve found, both the timing belt and fuel pumps tend to go bad. worst issue is the emission system. you can get it taken off & tuned and that’ll solve the issue but it’s expensive, and it’s hard to find shops willing to do it (in the US)

    • @DasMoose9001

With proper preventative maintenance they can easily go 450,000mi/724,205km.
I only run Pentosin lube oils & Liqui-Moli additives, I use Hotshot's Secret fuel additives and change my filters on a regular basis, I'm currently at 275k miles, purchased with 138k and it still has great power and no issues.
I'm only looking for another because I want the Pano-Roof, 6-speed manual wagon TDI, I have a 2011 Golf DSG Base that is getting sold to a friend soon as I get the car I want.

@@DasMoose9001I have a 2011 TDI manual wagon with the Pano sunroof. Phenomenal vehicle. As @peterdaniel66 mentioned, there can be issues with the sunroofs. The rear drainage tubes on mine became blocked. Luckily, this happened under warranty and Volkswagen fixed it. I’ve had no issues with the sunroof since then.
