- #challengecoin #navy #history Grace Hopper is best known for her work on one of the first linkers (a compiler), which was critical in developing the COBOL programming language. She popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages, leading to the development of COBOL, one of the first high-level programming languages.
Another very interesting story on the Grace Hopper. Glad you can share these with this audience. I learn something new in history with every coin. She was a great and dedicated woman.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Admiral Hopper also coined the term _"BUG"_ in reference to computers.
Back in the day of analog computers with wire-wrap motherboards a moth got into one of the systems and caused some issues. They had problems troubleshooting it because the dead critter was impacting a few different circuits. When they opened it up and found the culprit she is quoted as saying _"So it had a bug."_ The term stuck.
love it!!!
Another in a long line of history lessons I continue to learn new things from you. I was near Bahrain hunting mines off Farsi. Made a couple of port visits there when I was on USS Illusive.
Thank you for sharing ☺️ I’ll be waiting for the next one
Your going to love it!
Great story! Grace Hopper was a very inspiring, patriotic woman. This world needs more Grace Hoppers!
Yes we do!
That quote, "It's easier to ask forgiveness than get permission." was the unofficial navy motto while I was serving in the 1990's. At least it was on my boat.
Great presentation on a wonderfully interesting subject whom I have never heard of before this. Thank you for some history on Grace Hopper.
It was a great day!!
Stand by...they are going to get better!
