Hello and welcome to my channel!
In this video I'll show you how I take all my self portraits by myself, just me, myself and I :) I often get asked how I take my photos and the app I use to connect my phone to my camera, and in this video I'll show you all the details.
I use a Sony Alpha 7 RIII camera to take my photos, but I'll also show you how you can take your self portraits just using your phone (that is how I started out).
In this video I'll do the same self portrait both using my camera with the remote app, and on self timer both with my camera and phone, and then we can compare the end results :)
For the Sony cameras the remote app you can download for free to connect with your phone is called ImaginingEdgeMobile. For other brands like Canon, Nikon and Fuji there are also apps that you can download, the important thing is just that you have a camera with built in WIFI. So, if you're looking to buy a new camera, make sure that you get one with built in Wifi :)
Hope you'll enjoy this tutorial and behind the scenes look, and that these tips will be helpful.
Thank you for watching, sending you lots of positivity and hugs :)
    Stay healthy & safe!
    Xx Kika 🦌

Oh you are so right! In the beginning when I used to take photos from above, I would tape my phone to the ceiling with masking tape while standing on a chair.I'd put on the self timer, and jump down and lay on the floor in whatever pose I was going for, then grab the chair again, and put on the self timer again and back on the ground... And then repeat that for like 20 or more times, proper workout right there!!! :D

I love your videos so much! I'm trying to challenge myself by taking original self portrait at the moment, you have such creative and beautiful ideas! Your Instagram is a gem OMG. I do really love the editing part of the photo, would you consider doing a video where you show us how you edit your photo? It looks like you put beautiful coloured filter on it and I'm trying do that but I think I use the wrong tool, it never looks as I want it to be. Anyway you're a "rayon de soleil" as I would say in French (ray of sunshine in English I guess lol). Thank you for this wonderful content!

This was awesome 👏🏼 I take my own photos with my iPhone i use portrait mode and with good lighting it definitely helps...and I know the struggle is hard but it’s super satisfying taking your own photos. I wanted to mention that in case anyone is using their phone as well, if you have a Apple Watch you can use that as a self timer for your phone. That way you don’t have to run back and worth! It’s definitely life saving...I agree with you in the lens it definitely makes a huge difference when stepping up your photo game. Thanks for the video! Keep up the inspiration. 🌈✨🙌🏼

    • @Kutovakika
      @Kutovakika  Před 4 lety +1

Hi Jennifer! Ah what a good tip, I didn't know you can connect your phone to your Apple watch, that is such a convenient thing!! I was suprised at how the photo I took in the video with my phone was still so close to my camera version, I think the biggest difference was the colors and how much I could edit it afterwards. And when you see the two pics on a big screen you can see the difference more clearly, but for example if you are taking photos mainly to share on for example Instagra, phone works really well! :)) Even though, a camera is definitely a good investmentt if you take lots of photos and want to have more control :)

This is great! Self portraits are so popular right now with everyone being at home. I see lots of questions in photography groups. I posted yesterday a video about planning and preparing for self portraits. Practical things to do the day before,( like 2 different diy tripods hacks) but also a bit of mental mindset stuff to consider because I feel like that is half the struggle for some people. I would love to hear your take on how to overcome the mental and emotional obstacles to self portraits!!

@7:55 Its a closeup image of your tripod head! Unless I am looking at it wrong and it is not broken you can set it to shoot vertical or portrait instead of landscape.
On the left side of the tripod head, The round knob that has a flat side on top and bottom should let you shoot in portrait mode.
You should be able to unscrew it and it will let you shoot in portrait instead of landscape. It should lock-in place! On the front side of the tripod plate is a release button to unlock the plate to shoot back in landscape.
I do have to say that is a very cheap tripod. If it gets the job done for you then it is good.
I don't recommend going cheap on a tripod when you are using an expensive camera and lenses in the hand of something that could fall over and cause damage!
I have used cheap tripods and found out they don't work for me!
    Hopefully, this helps.

You are so sweet and genuine! Absolutely find your videos to be a TREASURE! Wish we were friends in real life! Followed you on IG this morning. Pls keep up the "take photos yourself" series, it's something I'd love to see more of...especially getting over the initial fear of posing in public (I've watched all your old videos already). Could you give us more tips on how to scout a good location, composition? Your Friend from Sunny Orlando, Fla! :)

Another tip, usually when I take self portraits with my camera (that doesn't have a wifi option) I set it up to take 4 or 5 photos in a road, so I can change a little bit the expression or the pose I'm making, it helps to get a good shot without running back and forward so many times 😸

That is a really good tip, thank you for adding it! Yes i often find that the slightest tweak and change of the pose and angle can really make or break a photo :)
