When he was on CC and had an unentertaining interview he had a game plan but here you can't just go into roasting the shit out of them bc on a network its more of a platform managers and agents use to advance their clients. More so than a late night cable show.

It's not just an issue *between* liberals and conservatives. It's the fact that you can barely voice a political opinion without being branded as belonging to one "team" or another. I've been called a liberal countless times in the past year or so, even though I've only ever picked a party for voting in the primaries and my political opinions are scattered and belong mostly to a couple of general ideologies like human rights and caring for your fellow man, not to a party line.

    • @ninakore

This was strange, Stephen clearly did not like the guy from the start and didn't even try to fake it. Normally the host will laugh along with a joke the guest makes to be polite, even if the joke sucked. Here it was like the guy tells a joke and Stephen looks at him like "yeah, and?"

BoUrnNe26 you've never seen a comedian do an interview before then. Louie, Burr, Notaro all do interviews with their stand up act bits laced into it in a conversational way.

Yes, the thing is, guests aren't on these shows to be buddies with the host. They're there to promote their material. Comedians will go on and frequently do bits from their set, and actors will go on and just generally try to be likable and make people want to see their film. It's business. Guy doing his comedy thing while Stephen looks on is what he's there to do.

I don't use the terms liberal or conservative talking about namecallers. Far right like Breitbart and the "libtard" crowd and the far left like the Buzzfeed idiots and extreme SJWs take away from intelligent conversation. I'm pretty far left but I understand the need for moderation.

Hey CC, some thoughts on the show:
-I think the idea is important and necessary to start bridging the
steadily growing divide in the US. (even though CC may have a pretty one
sided audience, it is a start)
-the first episode felt rushed, the guests barely got to comment, and
the dialogue I was hoping for did not develop
-instead of defining cultural appropriation in the
beginning (I assume the viewers know), the guests could have explained
where, for them, the line is and when it is crossed
-the clips showcasing cultural appropriation, though a
helpful reminder, felt disruptive to the panel discussion, preventing an
actual dialogue from developing. I would have liked a collection of
those examples at the beginning (maybe as an introduction) better.
-I was also expecting a discussion between opposing
views on the topic. The audience questions would have been more
interesting, had there, for example, been a 'Coachella-Girl' commenting,
and then a panel member explaining just how hurtful cultural
appropriation can be. (I was expecting this after seeing the interview
on The Late Show, so maybe other topics will be tackled this way)
    ------> Such a
discussion is the first step to understanding the other side, actually
grasping their point, no matter how ridiculous it may seem. No fact in
the world can change a mind, as long as it isn't being heard.
-further, given there is a discussion, Moshe Kasher could take on the
role of a mediator. This would entail: making sure the other side has
been fully understood before responding, creating an environment in
which both side feel comfortable voicing their concerns, and possibly
guiding both sides to and understanding/agreement on the topic.
(basically the values of Non Violent Communication and Systemic
    Consenting)
I hope the show will grow into it's premise, or at least try on
different ways to start the conversation between the two sides. I'm not
expecting to get a definitive answer on all the questions/topic covered,
but rather to be given enough information and as many views as
possible, so that I can differentiate where I stand. And, well, ideally
the participants on the show would too.

In these type of shows spontaineity does not exists. When comedians are invited they are auditioned before the show so that the producers and the host know what the guest is going to say during the show. The host is actually the one who plays along and asks the right questions to direct the conversation to what the guest (specifically stan-up comedians) want to say (mostly to promote their new stand-up material, book, a tv show etc.). I know it's weird, but that's how it is. Letterman did that on a regular basis, as Norm MacDonald once revealed. But I think that was common knowledge for most of the viewers anyway.

Moshe didn't really answer the question, identity issues are personal, which has nothing to do with uncharitable perceptions of others. He turned what could have been a humble confession of failure to empathize and how he was able to get over it into a bit about his childhood, which makes me think his show is going to be all spectacle and no substance.
