Why I do Draft Grades Videos:
This is a fun exercise to visit how I believe these players will produce for these teams, what these coaches and players can work on to make these Grades look wrong in a few years, vice versa, as well as what these Drafts might tell us about a certain team’s plans or opinions on existing players on their roster or the types of schemes they are looking to run.
    DRAFT GRADING CRITERIA
    DAYS 1 & 2
    “S” -Certified Steal
    • Need, team/scheme fit check out and the value is better than expected
    “A”
    • Value, need, and team/scheme fit all check out
    “B”
    • Good pick, but one of the following apply
o Player was a slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
o An otherwise “C” graded pick due to value and/or better players being available, but a massive hole at a value position (QB, OT, WR, ED, DT, CB) was addressed in Round 1 with a still good player that wouldn’t have been available for the team later
    “C”
    • Fine pick but two of the following apply
o Player was a slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need with (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
    “D”
    • Pick is in question as three of the following apply
o Player was a Slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need with (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
OR Player was a major reach
    “F”
    • A truly inexplicable pick as player was a major reach, AND team passed on a better player at the position for the team, team/scheme fit is in question, or team ignored value at a major need or positional value is in question (1st Round Only)
"-" May be applied if pick required a high trade-up price
    DAY 3
    Certified Steal (Purple)
    • Team stole a player who had a Day 1 or 2 grade who has a legit shot to be an impact player
    Great Pick (Green)
    • Team found above average value and a player with a legit chance to start within the first couple of seasons with the team OR a great role player in a key spot right away (Goal line back, #3 D-Lineman, TE2, dime back, kick returner, etc.)
    Good Pick (Blue)
    • Value lines up and player is in a great scheme or opportunity to find success as a starter or key role player relative to most Day 3 picks
    Solid Pick (White)
    • No notable criticisms of the pick but expectations should be tampered as with any Day 3 Pick
Reach / Will Regret Not Taking… / Not a fan (Orange)
    • (Round 4 & 5 only) Player was a notable reach and/or notably better players would have been better picks, but the player still had a draftable grade
    • (Round 6 & 7) Player was evaluated and did not have a draftable grade Massive
    Reach (Red)
    • (Round 4 & 5 only) Team took a player who did not have a draftable grade OR reached multiple rounds while passing on several better options for the position

Just as a note, there weren't really any UDFA Standouts in this entire division for me. I didn't forget.
Also McKinnley Jackson is Texas A&M, not Miss. St.

Tfg, not sure if this would be too difficult. I think it would really improve the video to hide your grade of the picks until you talk about it. Having all the pick grades visible at once takes a little away from actually waiting to hear your take on the pick. Kinda like you do with the final draft grade. Just a suggestion!

Really? Remind me again what we said about their _last year's_ draft when they got nothing but upgrades of blockers on offense, even their TE?
Same thing. So how good was it if they needed to replace 60% of it _this year?_ They didn't trade ANY of _those_ picks. So this is a repeat of last season's draft, which obviously failed.
A+. When their offense stalls because there's still no one to pass to, no one is going to say "but look at how improved that o-line that got that QB room to the playoffs is." They're Right Back where they were last season getting one receiver, having traded another & maybe added .4 to the average of their runs when their run game was already good enough to drag last year's passing game *to the **_playoffs!_* They obviously didn't _need_ to upgrade the o-line.

    • @Aktzin
      @Aktzin Před 27 dny +4

@@choosecarefully408what are you on about? Literally NONE of the draft picks from last year got replaced by this year’s draft or free agent signings, besides maybe Cory Trice, their 7th round corner who will be returning from injury. Even then, drafting Ryan Watts during the 6th round is simply rounding out the room to provide competition where the only proven starters are Donte Jackson and Joey Porter Jr..
I’ll run through it just in case. The top players the Steelers drafted this year consist of a tackle to play opposite of Broderick Jones (not replace), a center to replace Mason Cole (who was a free agent signing that was constantly getting beaten while also having issues snapping the ball), and a receiver to replace Diontae. Meanwhile, Payton Wilson is going to be playing alongside Patrick Queen and Elandon Roberts, and he could end up playing if injuries happen like they did last season. McCormick? He’s a depth piece that can develop and replace one of the older guys on the line when they’re done, though he could also play if injuries occur. If we pay attention, every single pick from last year’s draft still has a place on the roster. No replacements, they’re building around who they currently have.
If you want to argue the Steelers should’ve gone receiver earlier this time? Fine, but considering the team’s history at finding receivers, I’d sooner take a chance on finding a good option later in the draft than pass up on the perfect opportunity to shore up the line, whom we’ve been complaining about for the past two years.

Matt Lee was a “My Guy” and could not be more thrilled he’s a Bengal, let alone as a seventh round pick! His tape at Miami (didn’t watch any from his time at UCF) was just rock solid especially as a pass protector. Rarely loses and when he does it’s not immediately. Can’t believe he fell as far as he did. He definitely could use a year or two to add weight and strength to adjust to NFL d-linemen, but I’d bet on him as a future starting center

The thing with Mims is that he has all the fundamentals of being an OT down, just is inexperienced. So training him isn't like the training of any of the previous OTs, where flaws had to be corrected. In this case, it is simply give him tape of what to watch for and give him more reps. It's as simple as that.

Getting your potential future starting CB duo in Wiggins and Tampa, Rosengarten I think can be a really good starting RT, or worst-case just a solid Swing tackle, Adisa Issac can be a really good #3 EDGE, Tez Walker has #2 WR upside. I would also say keep an eye out on Joe Evans, who they picked up in UDFA, 9.5 sacks at Iowa last year, I think theres a really good chance he makes the roster and get's snaps as a rotational player.

Sanoussi Kane: Good tackler and special teams projection, played a big role in Purdue’s defense, safety/LB hybrid
Josh Newton: Excels in press man coverage, good run defender, just is a poor athlete
Daijahn Anthony: Very aggressive high cut safety. Just plays very upright in coverage and lacks high end traits
Matt Lee: Above average athletic traits and strength, good pass protector just is an abnormally bad run blocker for a center

Over the past three years I've noticed one thing in particular. Everyone outside of the AFC north has been over inflating the AFC north's value. I guess because of their quarterbacks, but Watson hasn't done anything since he left Houston worthy of mentioning. Burrow has looked luke warm since the Superbowl run, and Lamar is THE definition of a "regular season quarterback." Also, in case you're thinking I'm going to praise Wilson or Fields, think again. Wilson hasn't played at a high level for three consecutive years, and Fields has racked up 10 wins in 3 seasons, lmao. So as someone who's watching this division intimately year in and year out, can we please stop putting this division on a pedestal? It's not the best in football right now. Not even close. The AFC east and NFC north are both better.

I am enjoying the video. That said, it annoys me a little how many S rankings there are. S rankings only go to guys in teh first 3 rounds. Each team seems to have 1 so there will be 30 to 40 total. There are only 100 picks in the first three rounds. If 30 out of 100 of them are S, it is kind of meaningless. If S means stamp your foot, you are constantly stamping your foot. It feels a little amateurish--where everything is the greatest thing ever.

    • @TC-wg1gx

“Certified steal” is basically S and he gives that past the first 3 rounds

    • @philibusters23
      @philibusters23 Před 26 dny

@@TC-wg1gx It does, but I feel like he is giving a smaller percentage of them that designation (I could be wrong). The problem with his S designation is he failed to define it. He says it could mean steal, or S tier, or somebody he is stomping his foot for (a pick he may think he is not appreciated enough). Because there is no definition it doesn't mean as much as to somewhere between 30 to 40% of the first 100 picks are getting that designation and they are not getting the designation for the same reasons.

If you listen closely there is a lot of (hypocrisy?), I don't know if that is the right word. I mean I get it, your job to an extent is to go with your gut feeling and have a (hot) take one way or the other in a sense.
Having said that, to simultaneously praise on pick and label a CS like Michael Hall who will have to totally revamp his current skill set and technique to reach the heights you envision, but then knock Rosengarten when your only real criticism is that he needs to add strength (which is easily attainable) does not compute for me.

    • @skane260
      @skane260 Před 27 dny

@@skane260 I disagree. I acknowledged that this is speculative in nature. I.E. for the less inclined "it is not a given".
He says Hall has incredible potential without any cognitive way of to varify that other than instinct alone. Nothing Hall has done to this point suggests that he will be more in the future.
Rosengarten is 21 years old and been raised in systems that don't necessarily value strength. Ed McCaffrey's Valor High School which copied Shanahan, or UW's high passing volume quick release program.
Rosengarten, who has unique athletic upside and an incredibly quick first step could easily go from a 20 rep 225lb press guy to a 26 or 27 rep guy in a matter of months. He's been training with Joe Stanley since the season ended. He's going to be awesome and no amount of speculative BS from uniformed individuals will change my mind.
