    Jared offering her to go clockwise on her 5th loop is true sportsmanship. I'd already seen a clip of it, but now hearing it from Jasmin makes it even more special.

    Brilliant interview. Thanks to the both of you--Dylan for the wonderful questions and Jasmin, for her articulation of how the training and racing processes evolved. Also, the midnight hill run in the snow was just so fun to listen to!

    Jasmin, you have already inspired my thirteen year old daughter. She is now obsessed with Barkley. I told her to first focus on her middle school track season this spring, one step at a time! But thanks for being another source of inspiration for her!

    Dylan, thank you so much for this interview. I so appreciated the unique questions you asked, so this wasn't just a rehashing of what we already knew. Jasmin is so inspiring for her grit, skills and humility. But she really got me with her answer to the last question. As a back-of-the-packer who has been there chasing cutoffs on a multi-day event, to think that someone with Jasmin's skill set could be inspired by someone like me... wow. So much respect and thanks to both of you for this.

    Holy smokes under 2 mins to finish is super close! That’s a hype . I can only imagine the push in the end.
    Her honesty is great how she gave credit to the sportsmanship that was shown to her in order to run the final lap clock wise.

    I'm so relieved im not a marathon person, because this one sounds like the exact one i'd train my life away for. Grateful that another woman finished, and outsmarted the course without playing the woman side of it. She did it because She Could, its that simple. No DEI here.
    "Immensely inspired by the people that keep going at the back of the race"
    Thats a winner, who can recognize the survivors struggling on are using up their last % with a lot further to go, even when they'll never make it.

      They’ve had 4 women complete the Fun Run and, only, two who have started a fourth loop.

    Fabulous interview. Great questions and answers. The last answer reminded me of an interview with a major marathon winner years ago (I forget who and after which marathon) where he said how much he admired the last finishers because he could never imagine running for 5 or 6 hours. I’m guessing he’d never heard of Barkley 😂

    I was left wondering if she would have finished if Jared had not given her the easier direction on the last lap. I guess we'll never know.

    • @kimaboe
      @kimaboe Před měsícem +3

      I just heard an interview with Jared, and interestingly, his take on why it is considered "easier" is different from hers. I suspect that the true "easier path" is different for every runner, every race, and you don't know before starting a lap what state you'll be in at X-point, so it was just as likely that Jared would've hit a snag on something if he'd gone clockwise, and Jasmin might've had an easier time in the other direction.

    Okay - someone who loves James Herriot gets my vote! As for women not being able to finish Barkley... bah. Women have higher finishing rates than in lots of ultramarathons, so could just be a probability thing. Women have to be resilient in a way men don't always realize.
