  • Yeti 4x4 meets Enyaq iV 80
    Using Skoda's first modern day SUV - the Yeti - and its first fully electric SUV - the Enyaq - Chris Knapman explains how the car industry has transformed over the past 20 years. Themes include the rise of increasingly dominant players using shared platforms to drive profits, through to the growing popularity of SUVs, and more recently still the emergence of electrification.
    As well as seeing how Skoda's family SUV offerings have progressed from its original to its most recent, Chris takes both cars for a drive and looks at how the company has managed to retain a sense of uniqueness despite being part of the VW Group.

    The VW group have a talent for sharing parts within the brands while letting those brands have there own signature style. I Think Skoda are the prime brand that makes the cars different though as you mention the physical buttons remain instead of those touchy feely items on some others. Although Skoda is no longer a cheap brand they do offer so much more in practicality and sensible features, the ticket holder on the windscreen for example. My first Skoda was a 2012 Yeti and was brilliant for that time, it would still be brilliant compared to cars available a decade later. For now I'll stick with the by todays standards older Karoq with the same flexible rear seats as I had in my Yeti. I'd certainly look at the Enyaq when it's time to change but lead times are very long at the moment. A great video and thanks for sharing.

      My first Skoda was a 2001 Fabia Estate, and had several practical features I hadn't seen before in any car I had previously owned. There was the ticket holder on the driver's windscreen pillar you mentioned, in my Fabia there were little sliding storage drawers under each front seat, there were retractable hooks in the boot, on which to hang full carrier bags, and there were little pockets on the sides of the front seats, just at shoulder height, big enough to take a mobile phone. The glovebox also had a lidded compartment in it's "floor", so was 25% deeper than it first appeared. I kept that car almost 5 years before trading it in for an Octavia Elegance Tdi Estate....there were two further Skodas before I switched back to a VW, and that was because I couldn't find an automatic Skoda when I wanted to change the car.... the only Octavia auto I saw at the time was in a shade of non metallic bright blue I'd have found it difficult to live with. A friend of mine has had three different VW group company cars over the last 4 years or so, all powered by the same 1.5Tsi engine, mated with DSG auto transmission. A Skoda Octavia Estate SE-L, a VW T-Roc and (very recently) a high spec Seat Ateca. He rates the Octavia as the best to drive, and roomiest of all 3. He did spec the sports handling pack on the Octavia though. He particularly noted the sat-nav in the Seat wasn't a patch on the Skoda's sat-nav. The T-ROC left him rather unimpressed. He only kept that 6 months or so, as a customer at the dealership (which he and his brother own) wanted a nice ex demo T-Roc.

    Yeti - all the car you ever need. People would be doing more for the environment by buying a second hand Yeti over an Enyaq, and at the same time save themselves £30k plus.

      Good condition used Skoda Yetis are now quite sought after...... Skoda would still have sold the Yeti steadily, had they continued to produce it.....assuming it passed the Euro 7 emissions laws due in 2025..... The next Skoda to cease production is the Golf sized Scala. No direct replacement is planned at the end of the current model's production run..... Do remember where secondhand cars come from Paul. Someone first has to buy them new......

      It can easy be trade-in to be recycled for a new Enyaq iv 80x.. pretty soon petrol & diesel will be so expensive to own for all taxes, fuel prices and maintenance costs that the electric Enyaq will pay entirely for its purchasing price in first 3 years of driving daily..

      @@poplaurentiu4148 And it won't just be the cost of petrol or diesel that is a factor. Clean Air Zones, along with their associated pricing, will also have an effect..... Lots of these set to appear in our towns and cities in the next few years..... Pretty much following the EU trend I guess, with both Paris and Berlin banning diesel cars from their city centres.....

    Just bought my third yeti, a 1.2 SEL DSG Outdoor. P/Ex my Kia Soul Maxx EV which some might find odd, but the public charging network is just not fit for purpose IMO. Love the Yeti design, most comfortable seats and all in all an excellent all round car which Skoda should never have discontinued.

    What a great video. I am a VERY happy owner of a 2011 Yeti - love it to bits and every time I think of upgrading I cannot find anything compelling enough to lure me away except for .... a better speced Skoda Yeti or if I had the money the Enyaq - there is no electric car to better it for the money. Time to buy a lottery ticket....

    Skoda Yeti is car with charakter. I have 1.8 TSI and you can make even chip tunning for racing car. So buy yeti, make good service and you will have a lot of joy. Enyaq is different, but it seem as every SUV. Its pitty, that Skoda do not continue in original designe of Yeti.

  • @ivorverybigone2211
    @ivorverybigone2211 Před 2 lety +1

    I’ve just checked the Wayback Machine to find the new car prices of 59 plate Yeti and multiplied by the increase in the RPI index. This tells me the new electric successor range of cars should be priced between £20,000 and £33,000. Given Skoda demand a whole lot more, the base car now is even far more expensive than the previous top of the range variant, we can be certain the new car is far, far worse than the old car when prices are adjusted for inflation. Another epic fail by the VW group.

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh Před 2 lety +1

      With an order book of 70'000 plus, I don't think Skoda would regard the Enyaq as a failure. VW themselves have sold their *entire* EV production for all of 2022, and have orders extending into 2023...... The cost of almost everything has increased dramatically since 2009. With respect, you do seem to be stating the obvious...... You may personally consider the pricing to mean the cars are a failure, but not everyone's finances are measured or governed using the same criteria you use...... Also, since 2009, personal leasing has become a hugely increasing trend....and often means the actual list price of a car becomes much less of a consideration.......

      @@Brian-om2hh they won’t tell you on the tv. Many manufacturers are stopping making electric cars because not enough brainwashed idiots are buying them. Also they are setting on fire to often and container ships won’t carry them. They can flare up with explosions and burn at extremely high temperatures. Also can take the fire service 24 hours to put one out from reigniting.
      Insurance companies are now cutting back on insuring them and those that do are putting premiums sky high for the rest of us to carry.
      Also the batteries are already going dud and costing £30,000 to replace.
      My son had a electric van last year and got rid as soon as he could because they go no distance (120 miles) on a full charge and always having to charge it, especially having gone on a motorway.
      Also the cost of electric to charge them is expensive and will only get dearer.
      How do you think electric is produced. Certainly not from bullshit sustainable wind farms and solar panels. Big con.
      They are not as green efficient in their manufacture as a normal vehicle.
      You’re report of Shell will end up in the bin when they do a U turn.
      Is that enough reason.
      Also what made you think I had never owned one from my original comment.
      Only a fool would waste their money.
