  • I picked up this free Troy-Bilt pony rototiller that had been sitting for a number of years. It got put away due to a no start and leaking axle seals. Let's get it back in the dirt where it belongs!
    Axle seals I used:

    I now have my Dad's tiller. Also, 1978-FEB with a Tecumseh carb. Got her running pretty sweet after sitting for probably 15+ years. It's not a pony, though. It's the full size model.

    Good narration throughout your videos your on the right track. A lot of channels seem to turn into stand-up comedians and character actors instead of focusing on the mechanical and restoration work.

    The air filter bolt needs to be inserted for the carb to work properly. It's absence leaves a hole in the fuel vacuum circuit.

      Definitely, I think may have forgotten to have that in place in the video, but I did some more fine tuning while using it.

    It was being stubborn in the beginning because the inner fuel bowl Inside the tank needed to fill with fuel before it could run.

      Sorry I'm just getting back to you. The book only lists the number for a kit containing bolt v belts: 20402
      Looks like that number still pulls up a few options, hope it helps

      Here is what the manual I have says about the belts. It doesn't seem to have exact procedure but if you loosen tension you should be able to slip the both off and on

    Have a question for you... I have one of these Troybilt pony tillers and cant find any information about where the ground wire( I think ) that goes from the ignition coil and down the side of the tiller motor? Looks like last owner secured the wire under a bolt, no spark.. so I removed it so it wasn't grounded and then it got spark. I just can't find any schematics or a kills switch to attach it too?

    • @NotEnoughProjects
      @NotEnoughProjects  Před rokem +1

      Hi Jimmy, the kill wire has a clip it goes into under the gas tank next to the throttle linkage. The kill wire is grounded by the throttle control when pulled all the way back. imgur.com/a/JLrmovb

      @@NotEnoughProjects Yes.. I finally found one old pic online and finally figured it out. I can't believe it is so hard to find information online.... Thank you so much for answering my email... and helping me out. Your awesome!!!

  • @jimmyironatx

    Hope you don't mind me asking you another question.. I did get it running and when your not tilling it seems to run fine. When tilling, the tiller never ups the speed even if I have the lever pulled to Fast. I can see it on the throttle on the carb that it only goes up to where I have the idle screw set. So to get it to run fast enough to till.. I have to adjust the idle screw all the way to a fast idle. When it is not running, moving the lever to Fast moves the throttle on the carb all the way ... When running it does not ... Second carb ... same thing so must have something hooked up wrong? Thanks for your video and help, saving me a lot :)

    • @NotEnoughProjects
      @NotEnoughProjects  Před rokem +1

      Sorry I'm just seeing this. If you haven't figured it out, it sounds like the governer isn't hooked up properly. Likely a rod on the wrong side of a linkage or something. If you'd like I can send a Pic of how mines hooked up
