  • This video shows you how to Break and Rack in 9 Ball so that the rack is optimized for a run-out. You will learn how to place each ball in the rack so that you: 1) Make the wing ball 80% of the time, or more. 2) Have a shot on the 1- ball 3) Have a shot on the 2 and 3 balls if the 1 ball is made or not on the break. THIS CONCEPT IS IMPORTANT FOR 8 BALL PLAYERS TO UNDERSTAND AS WELL, Because, The Best Cross Training for 8 Ball, is 9 Ball.

      Don't you love those moments when you have an "awakening" - Even though you do not always get to rack for yourself, you can use this information to run more racks when someone else is racking. Look for the 2 ball. If it's in the spot after the 1, break from the other side of the table forcing it up table, like I do in the video. If the 2 ball is in the spot I have the 3 ball, breaking from that side will often send the 2 up table with the one. And worse case, if the 2 ball is in the spot where I have the 5 ball, breaking from the left side will send it off 3 rails (if it's not deflected) and send the 2 ball up table. (If these balls are on the opposite side, break from the other side.) Its not as good as setting the entire rack, but it's a good start. NOTE: Don't practice with only this setup. You need to make sure you can play well without it. Notice I don't use it on my 9-ball run videos. I try to keep it random.

    Thanks so much for this. My nine ball breaks are getting some serious consistency. I wanted to mention two things that helped my wing ball going in more consistently. First I needed to move it out a bit, I was too close to the rail (as you suggest in video) Second now that I have the spot I find if I spend more time squaring the rack it started really getting consistent. So spending the time on the rack is important.

    • @FXBilliards

      This is a good point. If you don't have a tight rack, things change quickly. I always say that I am the worse racker around. But with the magic rack and racks like it, I make a lot more balls on the break.

      @@FXBilliards I can rack a pretty tight rack (although I like magic racks). But I was talking about it being square. I actually got a drywall t and check my squareness after racking. I have a specific question, if you wouldn’t mind. I’m trying to increase power. I utilize various techniques: smooth, deliberate backswing; jerk action to the elbow and wrist; hip rotation; hand action; precision foot placement for leverage (hips/like boxing).
    That considered, I tested break speeds with 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21 oz cues. My speed is better by about 1/2 mph with each additional ounce of cue weight.
    Using House cues with super-soft slip-on tips, that is 17.8 to 19.2. I can manipulate my mechanics to get close to 19mph with any weight consistently.
    I know that test conditions hurt me (soft tips, heavy cue ball, uncomfortable bridging, wholly shafts), but what mechanics or methods would you suggest I incorporate to increase overall controllable power?
    Generally, people tend to break lighter with heavy cues, heavier with lighter cues. I have good control of stroke mechanics, and weight helps me. I thought that might tip you off as to what is limiting me.

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před rokem

      It’s hard to say, but most people get more break speed from a lighter cue harder tip combination. And make sure your stroke is straight and all that energy is going into the ball.

If you break from the left side If not, switch the 2-3 and 4-6}. I have not tested this so please let me know how you make out.

    I hate it when I brake good and the one ball ends up in the middle of the short rail. My second ball usually ends up Frozen to the rial right next to side pocket. There's also and defensive way to rack when you rack for your opponent.

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před 4 lety

      A quick easy defensive right might be to put the 2 ball where the 4 ball is located and the 3 ball on the wing. The 3 will either go in the pocket or end up behind the rack and the 2 ball will will stay with the rack as well...while the 1 ball goes to the other end of the table. Simply put: give him the 3 as a wing and put the 2 in the back. Thanks again Chuck. You are always on point. I hope all is well with you and your family. Are you locked in with your kids all day?

    Playing loser racks, winner breaks, as an example, is there a defensive way to set up the rack that may make it more difficult for the breaking player to run out?
    Also, years ago we would play a spot ball or maybe 2 to attract lesser skilled players for money games. The way I was taught to set up the bslls was right behind the 1 ball. Also taught to break from the spot aiming head on, sledgehammer power, with high right/left English on the cue ball, depending where the money ball is in the rack. Now I haven't played those types of games in close to 30 years, lol. So anyway, do you think that would be a good strategy? I also remember one of the top players in Toledo, Ohio at the time suggest that the money ball be placed in the back pair, after I told an opponent where's I would put it, the good player probably thought I suggested that because I was pretty sure I could put it in on the break. Sorry for the long message.

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  Před 4 lety +1

      A good defensive rack would be to take the balls that are in the front and put them in the back. The balls that are on the left, put them on the right.

    9 ball the worst game in pool. A game of chance. A game where mistakes count and you can accidentally knock in the 9-ball and win LOL I hate 9 ball the only thing I hate more than 9 ball is pattern racking. God damn pattern racking taking away Integrity from the game. Why do people want everything easy nothing hard increase your chance of winning by pattern racking. Instead of shot-making ability and strategy. This is exactly why I only play one pocket

    • @roxpac7091
      @roxpac7091 Před 4 lety +4

      I think you you don't understand the beauty of 9 ball. It makes you pay for every single mistake because your opponent will finish the rack if you miss (after a certain level of play). It also develops position play and safeties. As for rack patterns, it's just a starting point; you wouldn't start the 100 m dash standing up, you would take advantage of the blocks and position to get you in stride. After the start, you are on your own.
